  • FRIENDSHIP SLOOP "ECHO" and her trusty sidekick "PING". If you are a wooden boat enthusiast you are about to go into eye candy land. This is one of the most beautiful boats I have had the pleasure to sail on. She is owned by George Hegarty from Wickford, Rhode Island on Narragansett Bay.
The Friendship Sloop is one of my all time favorite sailboats of all time, and I've been admiring them from a distance for quite some time. Well now, I finally get to sail one. And adding icing to the cake, we are sailing out of historic Wickford Harbor in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. Well you don't get a better combo than that!!!
Friendship "Echo" is Boat # 54, and she was built in 1965 at Lee's Boat Shop in Rockland, ME. She is all wood and SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!
And like a Cat Boat, the Friendship Sloop has a classic gaff rigged mains'l, but unlike a catboat, she has two heads'ls, which put this beauty in a class all by herself! I can't wait to get on board
Wickford Harbor is one of my favorite places on Narragansett Bay. And so I hope you watch the video to the end where you will find stunning arial footage of beautiful Wickford Harbor.
So won't you join me as we venture off together to Wickford, Rhode Island
to meet Friendship "Echo" and her trusty dinghy named "Ping"? Trust me, you will not regret this!

Very nice friendship sloop.! ❤❤❤. These classics. And the cutter rig makes it even more gorgeous and classic looking. Excellent drone work btw. You have a good pilot! Best angles! More all inclusive of sailing view.. thanks .

I’m curious why many Friendships have the bowsprit pulled downward by the bobstay?

So the jib and stay sail stays don't pull it up and ruin the set of the sails.
Also they are the stays helping to hold the mast up right at the proper angle.

@@sirfrydryk360 interesting. My boats had backstays to do this, but I notice in Maine people don’t use backstays often.
