The technique of taping the blank back together after each bandsaw cut is new to me. It is a great way to maintain control. I can apply that lesson learned for many jobs. Thanks for that. I hope to build my own spokeshave as well.
Your work is amazing, I find you to be among the most resourceful people that I have had the pleasure to observe. The tools that I have watched you build inspire me to stay dedicated to the path that at times, I felt to be beyond my reach financially. You have shown me that having the willingness to work through percieved limitations can yield absolutely amazing results. Thank you for the generosity that sharing your skill with the rest of us demonstrates. Be well.
Nice!!! that was the first plane I bought, and quickly learned a lot about "tuning" a plane, you did a lot with a little to start with as usual. Beautiful work!
Incredible, I bought one of those Harbor Fright planes and I think it's presently collecting dust on a shelf in the shop... either that or it holds my shop door open from time to time. Might have to give it new life based on this video !!!
I really enjoyed watching this video. You have created a very nice tool. It works well and looks great -- and I'll bet it comes to the hand beautifully, too. Impressive! Thanks for posting the video.
This is a Masters Tool that any Real man would be proud to hold. What is funny is that the plane you used as its doner is Probably the biggest trashed talked tool on the web. I picked up one knowing it needed work and when squared and had sole flattened then made a shim to tighten the mouth ,its one fine tool. It will never be the quality of a Vertas but for roughing in a piece of ash or white oak its my go to plane. But you took the thing to an extreme level.
Congratulations!!. I think is a very well crafted spokeshave. I loved it And I might replace the steel plate for a Brass piece and dovetail it inside the two block. Also, I have a few pieces of Burmese Teak to get it done.
Amazing work. Also, watching how the final product shaved onionskin-like shaving from wood was a special experience, however, about half way through, I found myself thinking, "God, why not just buy the damned thing."
Absolutely beautifully handcrafted and fit your hands perfectly! Excellent shavings also. Now that you have made several hand tools and jigs, will you be making a piece of furniture?
Раньше простыми инструментами делали сложные. Теперь наоборот - относительно простой инструмент сделан с помощью большого набора дорогостоящего оборудования. Красивый регресс.
That's one large spokeshave! Two questions: 1. What are the finished dimensions, e.g. length of handles (end to end), the length/depth of the sole? 2. What brand or who makes the small spokeshave that you used to shape the handle?
i belive buying only a replacement blade for stanley sb3 or sb4 or an actual spokeshave would be better idea than geting quesyionable quality plane and making something else out of it and if you already have the whole thing, why not just cut the iron casting and add handles ona long threaded rod?
You do such exquisite work. One day, I hope to be half as skillful as you are. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for not adding annoying music to the video!👍

That's one large spokeshave! Two questions: 1. What are the finished dimensions, e.g. length of handles (end to end), the length/depth of the sole? 2. What brand or who makes the small spokeshave that you used to shape the handle?

Vintage stanley no 52
just awesome
It spooks me how good it shaves
hee hee
thank you
one strange detail... you need a spoke shave to make a spoke share. I very much like the idea I just dont have the first spoke shave to make this one.
i belive buying only a replacement blade for stanley sb3 or sb4 or an actual spokeshave would be better idea than geting quesyionable quality plane and making something else out of it
and if you already have the whole thing, why not just cut the iron casting and add handles ona long threaded rod?
정말 대단하십니다! 그리고 진정한 국위선양 하고 계시네요! 미국 어느 주에 계신가요?
