It's one thing to create a functional and well built tool but you also manage to make them beautiful too!
I love your video's, they inspire me to have a go myself. Thank you!

Scratch the comment about the fancy cutoff saw. I went to your video page and watched the build. Very good idea on it. I've used homemade cut off saws made like a simple table saw. They work better than just free hand but yours with the ability to hinge you can chew the way thru a long cut instead of pushing straight through and using up the wheel. Good idea. I sure need one.

Can and will you do a video on the sliding cut off grinder you have. I'd like something to do more precise cuts on small items. My old big 14 inch cutoff finally let the magic smoke out that makes them run. For the longest I've been using the gas powerd Echo construction saw with a metal cutting abrasive wheel to cut structural steel. It lacks finness when making fine cuts. The big 14 incher wasn't very good for fine small parts anyway. I keep a small grinder with thin cutoff blades on it next to a vice but its still free hand cuts.
Anyway the one cut you made in this video looked like something I'd love to build and would enjoy if you would show yours off. Thanks for the great work and sharing your skills.

@@YoungJe Lacewood is a marketing name mainly used in the USA. In its native Australia it is called Silky Oak. There are three commercial timbers called Silky Oak (and a number of others that are usually only available in the local area), Southern Silky Oak (Grevillea Robusta), Brown Silky Oak (Darlingia Darlingiana), and Northern Silky Oak (Cardwellia Sublimis - a very large tree and the most common timber). The one you used is almost certainly Northern Silky Oak, the Southern Silky Oak has a pinkish colour and to my eyes is more attractive.
I am not that fond of it, I grew up in a house full of the stuff, including a massive expandable table with 10 chairs and 2 carvers. When quarter cut (or near to it) the prominent ray patern is very attractive. It is very common here in Australia, I recently rescued some of it from a skip bin in the form of a broken chair.
It was often water stained with potassium permanganate, then wiped clean and lightly sanded when dry, this gave an almost black backgound where the grain is receding from the surface with the grain parallel to the surface a glowing golden hue in contrast, this can be very pretty but also dark, especially when it is an enormous table with 10 chairs and 2 carvers. >:-)
Okay, I have actually watched the video, it appears to have a finer texture than Silky Oak and also appears to be harder. Of course, you may have lucked out with the piece you got. Alternatively, it may be one of Casuarinas, perhaps one of the Sheoaks, it is definitely not Buloke (Bull Oak) as this is an extremely hard timber, and you could not have worked Bull Oak the way you worked that plane blank, besides Buloke tends to be red and has very prominent, enormous rays.
In any case, a nice project with an excellent result.
