A friend of mine years ago would go to her husbands office party abd get asked what she did(meaning her job/career). She would be looked down on by the Career Women for saying a Stay at home mom. I told her to say, she was the CEO of (Family's Last Name) Foundation. Accountant of the Finances etc...because a Stay at home mom, wears so many hats and responsible for running the household. A Stay at home mom job/career is her Family and not to be looked down upon!

Unfortunately with today's modern women stay at home moms are still looked at this way and perhaps in a slightly more negative way. I get told constantly that I'm too young and it's not too late to get a job (go to school)in case my husband leaves me. Nothing that I'm worried about but it amazes me what a sad world we live in.

It’s because a job is where a lot of women hold their value and are taught the working at home is not prosperous…some I’m sure are jealous because deep down they wish they could stay home.

Men have used money as a valuation of worth and SAHM have been for decades seen as of little value. Women are the only ones who will say something. Many women weren’t worried about being left but were left with nothing leading to the “modern” woman. And let’s not forget many SAHM look down on working women saying they’re not good mothers. Would be nice if all women just supported each other.

I always said I was a domestic engineer lol I was looked down on, but I don't regret one minute of it, kids are grown, youngest just left the nest. I now get to enjoy grandkids, sewing/crafting, food prep etc...my kids thank my husband and I, 32yrs together now, for their upbringing. 90% of their friends were in broken homes. Sad!

Social engineering. David Rockefeller told Aaron Russo that the reason why women went into the work force was because of women’s liberation. They wanted to increase the tax base and get women away from their families in order to be more dependent on government.

You aren't kidding, that's an understatement. My mother was at home raising us until I was in 7th grade then she had to go to work, and our father was at home. When mom was at home our father was still hands on; never alluding to that "was her job". Mom had told us when we were much older that some of the neighborhood moms told her they wished their husbands were like what they saw of our dad. I wouldn't trade for how we were raised for the world.

I would have loved to be a stay at home mom. My ex wouldn't work, I was forced to work a couple jobs and raise my boys by myself. I could only afford one family vacation for them, and one school trip each. They didn't have all the stuff kids have now game boxes, phones, nor a car. However they are 30 something now and the best young men. Most of their friends were spoiled had everything, but don't spend time with their parents. I'm very blessed mine do. They call me almost daily, their wives are amazing young women. I guess I did okay even though I didn't get the joy of being a stay at home mom. I envy you all.😊

I agree, would have loved to be a SAHM but life dictated otherwise. My happiest years were the ones I had during my career break. One income only, and for part of that time my husband was unemployed so money was very tight. But I had the time available to make every penny count in the kitchen so we still ate well despite our reduced income. I do think that having more monkey leads you to spend more, even if just on convenience foods. When I got home from work the last thing I wanted was to start cooking meals from scratch, and my weekends were taken up with cleaning, shopping, being with the kids, rather than meal prep for the week ahead (not that it was “ a thing” then.) Now an empty nester (still working) but I love it when the kids and grandkids come around to be fed, and I’m fortunate in that they choose to do so. I somewhat regret my years as an outside rather than SAH worker, but it is what it is - when I retire and get my pension I’ll no doubt be glad I did it,so it’s all swings and roundabouts.

Hey from Ohio! Ruthann, you are a hero to all of us women that chose your career… Many, many years ago, I wanted nothing more than to have a big family, sew, cook, preserve…we farmed, so I too loved the fresh air of country living…My dream never came true… for children in my life never happened, but I picked myself up by my bootstraps and made a life that was similar to yours except I mothered the elderly and just about everyone I came in touch with… You are such a special nurturer and I so enjoy watching you and your family and living vicariously through you and yours! Thank you for sharing with all of us! 🤗🙏🏻😇

Good morning! This reminds me of my Grandma, who was the best pie maker ever. She always had Sunday dinner and although her house was very full, there was always enough room for all to come and eat. She had a chest freezer in her dining room and it would be covered with pies. Such a fond memory. You look like a great pie baker, also. Thanks for sharing your recipes - I think it will be so convenient to have the premixed ingredients waiting in the freezer. Have a good week!

I too roll out pie on my kitchen table opposed to my countertop because I am vertically challenged. When you have a good pie crust you just need that extra leverage to get it rolled out. I received butcher block countertops for Christmas. After they are installed, if I have any extra I will use it for a kitchen table dough rolling station.

I use disposable pans too. However, sometimes I find a great deal on pans at our local thrift store, and this makes a nice gift for the recipients. I do this with casserole dishes too. I just tell them to bless someone else if they don't need the dish. So far it's worked out very well 😊.

I have been a mom of our 2 girls for almost 20 years now. I am from rural southeast Iowa and grew up growing, canning, freezing, and sharing what bounty we could not use. I have had a career since I met and married my husband of 21 years as a nurse but have always sought out ways to save money and make the most of the least. I take pride in knowing I have taught our girls the power of being self reliable. They have had a job of some sort that made them money to save since they were 14. And they know how to cook, shop, save, clean and be frugal and humble and thankful. Very simple life lessons that seem to be a necessity now.

I am now a stay at home mom and couldn't be more fulfilled! I do so many other things and have developed so many skills since I been home with My girls. Our little one is high medical needs and I'm also her 24/7 nurse but God uses these situations for his Glory and not only are we closer to God, we now homeschool, I get to have coffee time with my teen here and there, our lives aren't rush, I'm learning gardening, mill my flour, make our bread, kefir and sourdough are now a part of our diet, we have gained so much from me being home with my girls. Praise God!

I was self-employed and a employer, which allowed me to have my schedule match theirs. So I came home, got dinner ready, (usually prepped night before or morning) Helped with homework, monitored chore time, went back to work for a few hours. It was a busy time for our family and I look back and wondered how I did it all. I will definitely try this do ahead pumpkin pie! I have never tried that before.

I always loved cooking but I also didn’t have the time to be in the kitchen all day.. but now, I am a house wife. It is absolutely amazing. To make fresh bread and everything homemade has been a dream. Idk why women these days fret about taking care of your home, husband/boyfriend, and maintain your home for yourself and your family. It’s the greatest joy to see my hubby enjoy my cooking and appreciate my love language. It’s amazing. We don’t buy bread, I make my own butter, I’m starting to grow herbs and small fruits/veggies. Love hearing this! Being a stepmom is hard and she sounds like a great one!! My step daughter is grown and has her own home now. She still calls me all the time asking how to make something and to remember how much of an ingredient is needed. For the amount of times she has called me asking the same thing makes me think she uses it as a excuse to call me!😂 I wouldn’t have it any other way though. I was blessed to have a daughter like her who always treated me like her mommy and not “just a stepmom.” She just turned 6 when I first met her and after a couple of months she asked me if she could call me mom. I said sure, you can call me whatever feels comfortable to you. She said thanks mommy and at the moment she had my whole heart.❤ 🥹 Time goes by way to fast.

She was wonderful indeed. A single lady who took on my wild and wooly family, moved up to cold Vermont from Connecticut, and taught me all sorts of home-running information. Also, just a smart and funny lady!

I have many working friends that think staying at home is a job. They have children too so they have 2 jobs. I consider myself the “lucky” one. I’m a nurse and am planning on going back to work next year since my kids are older and don’t need me physically that much anymore. I think most of the “out of the home” working women that talk down on SAHMs are bitter because they wish they could do the same. I feel for them for the fact that they feel they have no other choice and that they feel the need to look down on other women to make themselves feel better about their own life. I’m so blessed to have a “career” that is not counted on financially and a husband that is so very supportive in whatever I want to do. Out of all the jobs/careers I’ve had SAHM has always been my favorite and most satisfying.
I wish all women health and happiness and also hope that the bitter woman find their own happiness inward so they no longer feel the need to project their negative feelings outwards.❤

I watched you video and decided to do as you suggested. I so appreciate your instructions , personality and home smarts. I told a friend that you are like sitting at the feet of my family ‘ mother’ and learning skills I didn’t learn when young and it is nice to have the easy going ‘ you can do this’ attitude. It makes all the difference. I also canned potatoes per your instruction Sunday morning ( I’m a Sabbath keeper) before we went to lunch with our Uncle. Thank you so much Ruth Ann! Please keep teaching ! I love you!

It really is a joy to be in the kitchen with you!
My mom used to make pies and cakes for a local restaurant, so she could be home with us kids. I grew up with the smell of those delicious things, and watching her fingers fly making the crusts. ❤

I regret that I was not the mother that my children should have had. I was raised by a single mother who had to work to provide for us. So her mindset was just to do it herself and hurry to get it done. My husband had to teach me the basics even how to do laundry. I'm afraid I taught my children the same way. Yes I was hands on taking them to their extra curricular activities and never missed a concert but I was too harried to take the time to teach them basic household things like laundry, cooking and even how to manage finances. It was just easier to do it myself. Since 2019 when we started adopting our homesteading lifestyle I've been teaching my 37 yr old daughter more about these things. She's married and already knows the basics but she's letting me teach her home bread baking and other things. I'm always getting a call with a Mom help! And I talk her through the process. She is now teaching her young children the same things. It's never too late to teach. Thank you, Ruth Ann for teaching this old dog new things 💚. Btw we have a legal homestead claim now and raise our own beef, chicken, goat and quail. I usually have a decent size garden but broke my shoulder last spring and the garden was an epic fail. But we already have this year's planned and will be starting my seeds in a couple of weeks!! Not 100% self reliant but I'm thankful that God has given us this opportunity at this time of our life 💚

Hello and good evening! I like your milk jar! How would I find one? I only wish that I had someone who taught me to cook , can, and such while I was coming up. I appreciate all that you share. I've taught myself to cook. Canning I learned from RUclips of course during the stay at home time. My mom taught me how to clean and I was so glad I did watch a few things while my dad was cooking. He passed when I was 15 yrs. old. You were so blessed to have family to learn to do such precious things. Continue sharing. I'll be watching. Please take care!!

We also clean our home on Saturday and do no servile work on Sunday. I am Catholic and was raised to do this by my mother and grandmother. I do cook meals many Sundays, especially if we are expecting company. We do not eat out on Sundays and will have leftovers if it is just us. The day is for Mass and then time at home resting or visiting.

Pumpkin pie at its finest! 😋 Always look forward to your videos and what you have to share with your viewers RuthAnn. I was introduced to making pie as a teenager (17) when I met my now longtime Mennonite friend during summer vacation and she invited me to join in making blueberry pies with her Vocation Bible School class. Since then, these past years, baking pies was something I made over and over until I got it right. I appreciate the valuable tip on how to make pumpkin pie ahead of time ( and it’s our family’s favourite at this time of year) and now look forward to preparing a few pies for Christmas as our Canadian Thanksgiving 🦃has already been celebrated.

Ruthann, thank you so much for sharing your family recipes. I have never made pie crust with powered sugar in it . I made the big batch recipe ,then made pumpkin pie recipe with Blue Hubbard instead of pumpkin 3 pies . We really like blue Hubbard . A apple pie ,and a big round deep dish ham pot pie . I had enough pie crust to get maybe one more pie shell but I was tired . My husband said the BH pie is delicious. My Mom was Pennsylvania Dutch . German.
