    If composite or s-video, of course s-video. But best for PS1 - RGB and CRT tv.

  • @flamespear86
    @flamespear86 Год назад +2

    Most of the time the s video looks better. It's certainly cleaner. It's especially better for text and things that are meant to be sharp. However it also brings out jagged pixelated edges and every single polygon. There are some cases where worse image quality of the composite video has a smoothing filter effect.

    • @Andy_0L
      @Andy_0L 10 месяцев назад

      I was jusy thinking about that. The edges in many games are kind of blended with the blur so it doesn't look so pixelated, I think that was the original intention

    • @flamespear86
      @flamespear86 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Andy_0L Sometimes I'm sure it is. Good developers often made their graphics for the most common TV not simply their own high end video monitors.

  • @alx12345

    I think composite is better, sure its more blurry but svideo just multiply the jaggies and ps1 limitation.

    • @10minGameplay1
      @10minGameplay1  3 года назад +1

      Would agree for many 3D games, mainly those that heavily use dithering.
      However usually prefer the sharper image for 2D games.

    • @TheGreatNathan

      @@10minGameplay1 Overall svideo still takes the cake. On an LCD, svideo may make some 3D graphics look jaggier, but that shouldn't be a problem on CRT.

    • @10minGameplay1
      @10minGameplay1  3 года назад

      @@TheGreatNathan Some PS1 games use tons of dithering and it can look pretty bad once you get a sharp image.
      Silent Hill is a extrem one, FF9 at places as well.
      Its something I didn't really think about when I did this video but I might do a new comparison video for that.

    Just if somebody wanna know S-Video and component (SCART) is almost indistinguishable...

  • @RottenMuLoT
    @RottenMuLoT 3 года назад +6

    Call me crazy but I prefer composite here. The image is cleaner on s-video, no doubt about it but it makes all the flaws (most notably the aliasing) just more visible. You have a good example at 0:19. Look at the top of the trees, the top of the car. if it wasn't for pixel crawling, though...

    • @10minGameplay1
      @10minGameplay1  3 года назад +2

      Yes, the console has its own connection that support support a few outputs including S-Video.
      PS2 & PS3 has the same connection but those also support component cables which the PS1 don't.

    • @10minGameplay1
      @10minGameplay1  4 года назад +4

      Im going with S-video or RPG scart but could see the appeal of the composite in some games, it hides some of the poor quality and few colors with its softness.
      Displaced Gamers did a interesting video about advantages with composite on the Genesis: ruclips.net/video/x0weL5XDpPs/видео.html

    • @ericconnor708
      @ericconnor708 4 года назад +3

      Disagree. It's really preference. The s-video brings out all the faults in graphics and basically brightens everything up while outlining everything. An argument can be made for either one.

    • @Mt1200z
      @Mt1200z 2 года назад +1

      I know some people who usually prefer composite because they consider "that's the way the artists intend the game to look like", and it naturally helps reduce pixelation.

    • @HollowRick
      @HollowRick 2 года назад +1

      @@Mt1200z plus it hides a lot of the dithering present in a lot of games on the ps1 library

    • @flamespear86
      @flamespear86 Год назад

      @@Mt1200zit really just depends on the developers intention. Every game is different. Another example is how CRT was used. Square and Konami really used the CRT scan lines themselves to make excellent portrait art. With the art style Game Arts used in Grandma for example they really didn't. It's the same with video signals themselves. Some developers considered them and others didn't.
      Nintendo cared for a while then regressed and really stopped caring about video signal from the GameCube to the Wii as the output got worse despite more powerful hardware.

    Hi friend,
    How did you connect the S-video cable to the Elagto Game Capture HD?
    Hugs from Portugal!

    • @10minGameplay1
      @10minGameplay1  2 года назад +1

      Connected it directly into its round multi-pin connection.
      This is a S-video connection with more pins so it support more things.
      However this way only gives video, no sound.
      There are also a s-video adapter for the elgato but they stopped selling these and they are pretty rare.

      Does the PS1 S-video cable carry those same pins as the input of the Elgato? Because i know that the Elgato Game Capture HD used to manufacture an accessory for the connection of the 7 or 8 pin S-video input but no longer makes it.
      I have tried some S-video connections from those 7 or 8 S-Video pin port to 4 pin S-video pin port with adaptors and it managed to reproduce vídeo but with a lot of bad quality, i mean... A lot of bad quality!

    • @10minGameplay1
      @10minGameplay1  3 года назад

      Likely more noticeable on modern TVs.
      Image quality on the old CRTs are usually not that great and crappiness hides a lot of flaws.
      Plus these connections were made for the old CRTs while flat screens need to conver that signal.
      So how well a modern TV will do this will vary.

      @@10minGameplay1 I once compared my rca/svideo output from my pcfx (same settings) on my lcd TV 720p. Although s-video was better than rca, the difference was not that great and as such..assuming I could plug only one svideo connected system out of say 2 (in my case n64 and pcfx), I could sacrifice the pcfx one. I thought the difference between svideo and rca from the n64 was bigger thought.
