✅DAWs that Can do this: Cubase (offline process, you can always go back even after years of reopening the project) Nuendo (offline process, you can always go back even after years of reopening the project) ProTools Wavelab (very similar to Cubase) Logic (destructively- once you save, you can't go back, proceed with caution and backup your audio) ❌DAWs that CANNOT do this the way I show on the video- (at least at the moment-clip gain is not the same ;) : Reaper StudioOne Ableton Live FL Studio (there is a declick option in Edison but not a pencil tool to draw - correct me if I'm wrong)
Back in the early 90's was DigiDesign, which was the company that morphed into Protools. You could absolutely get the pen and draw the click out. However it was destructive. We used to take a deep breath and go for it 😶. Thank you, Dom for your splendid vids. ❤️
I've been using this technique since the '80s when I was digitizing my vinyl collection in Steinberg Clean and Wavelab. The click and pop filters did a fairly decent job, but some pops were just too extreme. I still have my Wacom tablet and pen attached to my studio PC specifically for this type of repair (and also drawing detailed automation).
THANK YOU SO MUCH DOM!!! I have done this for years for those pesky clicks. It makes me feel good to know I have been doing something the correct way all of these years LOL!!!
I’ve used this method hundreds of times, a lot of times it works and sometimes it just doesn’t. Good to have RX10 and good to know how to use both. In this rare cases where both don’t work you just have to re-record , if you can.
I have done this in Cubase since they introduced the 32bit float audio engine. It was the only way to engage the pen tool to edit back then.. Now it is just there for all you youngsters...
Dom, you have been the go to guy for many of my questions or problems. This definitely will come in handy. I really appreciate you talk about other products too even though Cubase is my tool.
to me at least, that's a shocking discovery (in a good way) i never really thought you could draw on the waveform! that's like super cool! I'm 100% gunna try it!
by the title I knew it was going to be the drawing tool in Cubase 👍 I remembered your other video and I use it a lot instead of automation for nuisances. Now, I will for this too (along with surgical Spectralayers)
I use the RX declick and what I do is that I automate the mix so that it only acts on the clicks, thus leaving the rest intact, then I render and continue with the rest to eliminate the RX and that latency
This originated with Pro Tools at least 24 years ago. It has also been possible literally forever to simply delete that millisecond from a soundfile, shortening it by an amount that even the performer could never hear. Technical clicks, as opposed to acoustic clicks, are ultra brief and easy to remove without artifacts.
You are a wonderful person. Please explain to us the inputs for a compressor in Qubis, the mono and stereo inputs and outputs to connect to a compressor or any other hardware.
THANK YOU for showing how to do this without using expensive Plugins. I watched a Video about getting rid of Fret Noise, where the Guy literally said, "Open RX 10, and press the "Remove Noise Button".....like, yea,, that's great, now show how to do it without using a $2,000 tool that not everybody can afford...
Excellent tip. Used it for a years. Only problem I have is that my mouse hand is not steady through physical health problems, and never seem to manage it clean 100%.
Thanks Don! Great tip! I tried it here but [Draw Tool] didnt work in my specific case here. But I just range selected the click (with "Snap To Zero Crossing" enabled) and deleted it! Perfectly!
Hey Dom, thanks as always! I had a different audio "click" issue and traced it back to needing to adjust the latency and buffer in the audio settings. It drove me nuts but only had the problem with a few projects in the past. I could use more insights in understanding this... or maybe it's an excuse to get a new computer?!🤷
Yes, this works in many cases, but not always. There are clicks that are caused by processes in the nasopharynx. These clicks are multiple and last several times longer than the click shown in the video. It is basically impossible to correct such clicks manually, since the click is mixed with a useful signal and does not even look like a click. The only solution in this case is the use of special plugins. Personally, I prefer to do this not in DAW, but in a separate sound editor (naturally saving the source file).
Clicks/gaps are less common than in the early days of audio interfaces and PCI cards. I remember myself doing that a lot, i.e. after tranfer Adat 8 channel through the audio card inside my comp.
I see there's a lot of requests about this in Studio One and it hasn't been addressed. To my understanding it's not possible the way I show on the video- do you have a video to show us how it works? :)
Hi, best Cubase tutorials in the world! I even understand your English... I´m from Germany ... 😁 Is there actually a trick that allows you to do this de-clicking AFTER editing with Vari-Audio?
Here is how my friend music producer Frank from the youtube channel ExclusiveLM gets rid of clicks. He highlights the entire track, then uses the glue all items together option. Next, He goes into his DAW block limits and increases the block up to over a thousand. That increases the buffer and the milliseconds and done. Lastly, he makes sure no plugin is pushing the volume of any track past the limit of any compressor on any track to below the limits for each compressor. Your welcome.
I use Adobe Audition and would love to have a feature like this :,) One note though, using a click remover plugin removes ALL clicks with one button. That alone is irreplaceable for me, especially dealing with artists with home studio setup, who usually have a lot of imperfections in their audio files.
Sometimes the clicks appear as a result of tongue movement or saliva or any other mouth-related thing involved or adjacent to sound emission. Also, most times they don't look like spikes in your waveform, but rather like jagged lines. Sometimes it's easy to spot them, other times not. I use the pencil for that too to draw a more seamless line instead of the jagged one. I wish the faulty, clicky part were more obvious.
Thank you so much Dom very interesting However, I have a request. Today the AI music is a reality but the quality of sound need more work and so would be great if you can do a video on how to use Spectre Layer and Vari audio in order to arrange sounds what come out from AI. E.g. Convert the parts from audio to midi Thanks in advance
Thats why i buy wavelab and tell ableton to make it the default wave editor. Intel and nvidia have a lot to answer for when it comes to high page file usage, high dPC latency. Intel dynamic tuning driver is terrible when it comes across audio DAWs it goes nuts and causes audio clicks. Nvidia interrupts are terrible too especially if gpu switching between on board gpu and nvidia gpu. OEM bloatware and e cores are also a problem for audio.
I’ve a question for Cubase , trying to reverse a track doesn’t work and in the process window it just shows an exclamation mark next to the function I just tried … any advice ?
Great video, but I have some quiet ones (not enough unfortunately), making the visual search impossible. Is there any better way to analyze the waveform in Cubase Pro 12?
Hey Boss👋 am facing many challenges in cubase 13,1 is that I don't get the pitch sound to listen when In variaudio when pitching up or down,2 is that I don't know how to set may cubase to start in the point I stopped last because mine keeps jumping back and front on time line, that's bomboglad, can you do something on that plz 🤔🙏
I use soundforge to record vinyl and restore it from destroyd clicks or scratch or Clickrepair to repair low clicks. It's not new. I do it almost 20 years.

I'm happy that what I thought was a dirty hack is actually a pro move. I feel very validated right now
Dom your knowledge and willingness to share your experience in such a professional and friendly way is so appreciated.
Thank you so much for your support my friend ❤️
My man is not getting younger😊. Thank God for grace and thank you for all you have done for us🙏🙏🙏

Thank you very much Dom for this feature, I did it in other editors, but I didn’t know that it was so easy to do in Cubase!
Thanks Dom for teaching us this, after 20y cubase i still learn, i didnt need it but of it will happen i can adjust it, thank you so much
Tried it today.... so darned easy!
And to think I could have been doing that all along!
Thanks, Dom!
I agree about all the technical aspects of it... The technicalities
Awesome tutorial Dom! I didn't know about this feature! you are a God sent to this community!
For me Cubase Pro and Pro Tools, The Top.
Very amazing lesson
You’re blessed 🎉
Woh! This is amazing. I confess as a long time Cubase user, I'm one of those that didn't know! Thanks, Dom.
Boom moment right there!!! Thanks! 🙏🏻

Wow, I've been using Cubase for over a decade and had no idea you could do this. Thank you!
I wonder as an average user if it’s actually possible to know all the little features of Cubase? Now I know one more!!
Thanks Dom…👍

You can import the audio file into sound forge and do the same editing with the pencil tool.
That's what I used to do. I didn't realize it could be done inside Cubase.

sick! never knew
Good tip, thank you, and how did your t shirt change color? I want a OBS filter that makes disco light in the room?
fantastic tip!
what if you hear a click but do not see the click in the waveform?
🔥🔥🔥
OK, I give, what did you whisper at the end?? 😁 Was it "Cubase is awesome, isn't it"?
How does it work? How does it remove the clicks? What does the pencil do?
You are essentially restoring the audio samples
MY TRACK PANNING IS NOT SHOWING ON LEFTSIDE. I CAN'T CONTROLS THE PANNING NUB... DO YOU HAVE SOLUTION.

Is there way to do this reaper?
Does this work in Studio One as well?

Very easy to do in Digital Performer (which is surely very better than Cubase for audio editing…)
As God as my witness… I’ve been doing since this Nuendo 3. Same DAW just for movies.
