- You might have noticed that our most recent video is now missing. There was a good reason for that but I didn't want to just write a brief post so I made this video to explain. I will be back soon with a regular video but for now I hope this will help you understand what has been happening.
I just found this video based on recommended, and I just wanted to apologize on behalf of the community... I've been a quiet bjd'er myself for several years now (5 or 6) as a result of all of the above and below mentioned with the bjd groups and how toxic they are, and about 3 or so years ago, completely lost interest in my dolls, of which I have 6. As you probably now know, that's a lot of money haha, and for it to go to waste because this community is so toxic is a real shame. The entire point of the dolls is to express your creative self, and for that to get demonized like it has is exactly why it's so hard to find people to follow or gain inspiration from....and it makes anyone interested in this incredible hobby completely turned off of it. I honestly don't blame anyone for not wanting to join based on that alone. But I appreciate you making this vid, because it brings to light exactly how it is, and more often than not I find some really, truly talented artists and creators who just deserve better, but are unable to truly enjoy or share because of how toxic it is. You definitely had no idea going into this, you've never owned a doll before, most beginners GO for the cheaper, more available dolls because it's easier for them to access a doll and begin their journey without knowing how it's stealing from the original artist, that it's a fake, that you're suddenly the "devil", yadda yadda yadda. I am in the minority involving recasts, and even though I would never get my own, I don't go around telling people how terrible they are for not knowing better, or for not being able to afford the original version. I don't go around making people feel terrible PERIOD.
Anyways... I don't know you at ALL apart from this vid, but I've subscribed. Your honesty is awesome, and I hope that you keep the doll and try to enjoy her on your own, if that's something you're interested in. I found these dolls when I was looking for a WoW figurine some odd years ago, and then bought my first one when my mom had to have part of her thyroid removed due to possible cancer. The doll herself is incredibly beautiful, and 6 dolls later, I still take pride in all I've created and the boundaries I've pushed within myself artistically, and find it rewarding when I do take the time to enjoy it. They're therapeutic, really.
For anyone looking into the hobby, if you really want to spend the money on a doll, I say go for it. If you were looking forward to the community portion, there are still some REALLY great people out there in the hobby who aren't total assholes, and if anything, it's worth a shot if you think it is. I don't regret getting into it, and I think that if it's something you truly want, please don't let a group of toxic buttholes get in your way. They aren't worth your time.
Again, so sorry this was your first experience, but I so appreciate the voice for it, because it needs to be talked about so it can get FIXED. Or at least, get a ball rolling. :)

Who else saw this coming? The bjd community is dying out because the community itself is extremely toxic and filled with people that are very insecure and downright rude to newcomers and people that don't follow their style. I love the video Jen, it made me want to buy her but I sadly knew if I would ever post in ig about any that I bought that I would be picked apart. It's really sad because the community is filled with a lot of younger people but mostly adults, and that's extremely sad that adults behave that way.
Honestly, when she first made the video, I was so worried this would happened and was elated to see that it seemed most people were being really nice. And clearly that didn't last :/ This is part of why I generally stay out of the doll community.
I'm just really sad it ended up going this way in the end for so many reasons.
@@CrystalDreams the rest of the doll community I feel like from my personal experiences are really nice people and it's not really the dolls that define who they are or give them a rank. in the bjd community though your dolls for some reason make you more important than others and it's really offsetting. I'm not saying everybody is like that but the people that jumped the gun on Jen are definitely the people I wouldn't want to try to talk to or get information from about the community. but like I said for my own personal experience I've never had any other issue with anybody else was in the doll collecting community, it's just bjd.

@@lynne99 I've definitely had some good experiences. I actually got two of my three BJDs secondhand (A Fairyland Luna Rose Full-package and an Iplehouse Limited Edition Emilia) so I've definitely seen some of the nicer parts. I mainly stayed in the Pullip fandom at first before I got scammed and then I kind of faded out and the BJD scene was a bit too much for me as there was just so much to keep track of. I have a handful of BJD dolls on my wishlist that I keep hoping to get at some point regardless so sometimes I still poke in on DoA for any possible secondhand stuff.
I think people need to realize that a lot of people who get recasts aren't doing it selfishly. They don't know or don't fully understand recasts (heck, even in the community, I'm STILL trying to learn more about it and it's hard because so much of the information available is in such a biased stance that it doesn't give me a good idea of it) or maybe their family surprised them. Also, while it may not be the start people want, it actually encourages a lot of people to buy the real ones once they do end up doing research! They may even use the recast for customization and buy the real one. Or they never had a BJD and it was a way to check it out to see what they're like.
It's just a shame because all they are doing is hurting people and lessening interest rather than focusing on the act of them being made and the company doing it. And regardless, there's no reason to be cruel.
The worst experience I had was someone yelling at me for having my dolls laid out on my bed while I mentioned I was clearing up an area to have them displayed better... They were perfectly fine, but they felt like anything besides perfectly posed was awful and it made me feel terrible. I stopped taking doll photos after that.
As a private collector of BJDs, I have had issues with the larger community. I completely agree with your feelings towards the bullies. While Recasts are a big problem within the community, we need to take the time to educate instead of attacking people. I kind of stopped posting my dolls online after being attacked for a face up (on a blank face) that I did when I was starting out.
But I have a question from someone on the outside. Is recasting a bjd any worse than hot topic, fye, or any other nerd store stealing fanart for their shelves? Or music and movie piracy?
I mean if each original doll earns someone 500-2,000 dollars or more, then one or two 100 dollar recasts out of their hundred sales, or heck, even 50 recasts out of their hundred sales, isn't really going to hurt them any more than it does, say, ponyphonic. Or natewantstobattle
@@robinskyemckenzie5448 It really does impact the artists within the sculpting portion of the community. Most of the sculpture artists that I know don't actually get much profit off of their limited production runs because the money goes into their next project. Some of them do reproduction runs if there is a demand for it, but it is pretty rare or it is for a base doll and not the clothing collection (which is what most people are looking for).
Recasts are rather frequently poor quality in materials used and construction. That is why people saying that it might have smelled strange instead of asking Jen if it did. I have seen recasts fall apart or yellow on owners within months of purchase and they can't get it refunded or fix it themselves. I feel like the art theft is on par with Hot Topic's practice.
As for FYE, I never heard of them stealing fan art, but I left the company back before they really started to sell pop culture merchandise.
@@weegieluigi Most of the people weren't giving her any advice or suggestions on how to find an official doll. They were straight up attacking her for purchasing a recast. I have seen members of the community act completely out of control if they discover that someone accidentally purchased a recast.

Your right though, bullying can happen over a period of time. But the act of bullying is defined as “ to intimidate, or domineer; to be loudly arrogant or overbearing” Individuals can act like a bully as described above. This does not need to be a reoccurring act in order for someone to feel they are being bullied. But your right, generally someone who is a bully tends to treat others with the same actions or responses on a regular basis.
But, to try to stay objective and see both sides (the RUclipsr and the audience described in this video) it sounds like the video in question was trolled by quite a few individuals who viewed it. (This is based on the comments made in this video. Trolls are usually outside individuals who purposely add toxic comments or try to create conflicts or arguments on posts for fun)
Regardless, from the comments she has made in this video, and how she has described peoples reactions, it does sound like she may have had a negative reaction to her video where individuals may have abruptly or rudely commented on her content.
I feel bad that in trying to be open and honest with her viewers on what she was reviewing, she had individuals negatively (and possibly harshly) comment or react to her content.
I don’t see anything wrong with this response video. She explained what happened from her point of view, as well as why she took the video down.
People can have a difference of opinion, and still be respectful. They can strongly disagree or not like someone’s content without being toxic or rude.
The BJD community sounds like the Reborn community. I recently got dragged on a Reborn group online because I posted some pictures to a doll was assigned to paint for a college art class. Apparently the mold was something of a recast. And even though I had never heard of reborn dolls before this class, I was the "World's Worst Person" for not knowing that my classroom assignment was a reproduction.
I'm sorry that you had this experience. Trust me, I've been there.
The shame is that your video and it’s comments section could have been a wonderful learning opportunity about recasts and the issues related to them. But people got all attacky and rude and it was awful. I’m sorry you had to deal with that.
I saw the comments there and, save a few, most comments were kind, respectful and educational. I think at least. I’m sure there were some who were rude too, and of course, I understand how Jen read those and got upset. :(
Yeah, and honestly if they were all phrased the certain way, it sounds like someone sent a band of white knights after her as a knee-jerk, holier-than-thou reaction. Either that, or it could've been a spambot from one or two people. If Jen has any of the messages, she can file a police report for harassment and cyber-bullying if she wants to.
The funny/sad part is that lolita communities are the same way as bjd communities, too.
Jona Wanders most likely Jen put a filter up to hold comments if they have trigger words (cursing ect) so they very well may have been way more then we saw. Also twitter, insta and even e-mail, so I can see how that gets to be overwhelming.
most of the comments I saw were pretty decent education posts or people expressing disgust at the recaster's shady practices, I didn't see any hate directed at Jen, just sympathy for being used as a pawn. Sad that apparently some negative stuff filtered through but to tar a WHOLE community and hundreds of companies just becuase of a few internet trolls is honestly pathetic and nasty.
Ohhh yes, I did see plenty of horrible comments, completely blasting her for videoing a recast, and saying she knew it was a recast and did it anyway, calling her a horrible person for accepting stolen art. There were also conversations among them in the comments section about her, as if she wasn't there. Honestly, it is no different than talking behind her back while she is in the next room listening.
I don't support recasts either, but god what people did to you is unaceptable, you specified in the video it was a recast and you were unaware of it. I'm sorry you're been harassed by idiots Jen, you don't deserve any of that hate, you're such a nice lady and your videos always make me so happy since i'm not able to buy dolls or toys for myself right now, and i still love then, so i get enjoyment out of seeing you get the toys i want. I even own a bjd and i was so happy to see you get your first one, the pullip as well. I hope people stop harassing and being awful to you for this, you deserve the best.
I was going to post just this. I’ve left the BJD community because the dolls are very difficult to look after and I’m disabled, so i struggle to even dress them. I’m a reborn and 80’s baby doll collector now. The bjd community in the U.K. is lovely honestly.
But like you, Jen. I found some of the American community to be rather toxic and full of itself. Recasts happen and they get sold. They are a cheaper option for folks and there’s no shame in your honest review.

UserLMH I second your comment. I am also in the BJD community in the U.K and I have found nothing but lovely members so far. But with any hobby you’re going to Find toxic people who put everyone in a bad light as they tend to be louder and more extreme in their unbelievably unacceptable behaviour. The recasting issues aside this treatment of others is not the way to get your message across (the individuals who chose to attack & generally abuse others through social media).
This happened to me. I was a kid and accidentally bought a recast, posted a few pics of it and boom, about 30 death threats.

Wow I originally got excited to see your BJD video when I saw it pop up in my feed. (Because I've always been curious about the hobby but never actually got anything due to the price point of these dolls.) But I missed out on the video because of the crazy holiday schedules of work and life etc. So to see this video today and hear all this, I feel completely tuned off by the hobby. I'm just appalled.
Same. I don't want one too because of this. I've seen USA doll sellers go out of business trying to sell the legit ones over seas. I've just kept looking for a doll. But now..
But I kind of think that's what they wanted. You know. Be the only people with the dolls. Be selfish and turning thier noses away from everyone beneath them. Why would they want more bjd people when they could be elite.

@Altoid Bazingá I still think they are too expensive. You can compare it to other art pieces like handsewn costumes, hand painted figurines, handmade artworks etc etc.. BJD tops everything.
And I don't think theyre sculpting one exact doll many times, they surely got a way to remake it somehow..otherwise they all would look kind of different wouldn't they?

I got mine 2ndhand and then discovered it was recast. I was treated as if I deliberatly bought a recast. Got kicked out and all the negativity, so now I'm on my own with it and not interested dealing with the community at all. I'm keeping him. He isn't bad at all.
Screw the BJD community. If you like the doll, what they think doesn't really matter.

And the worst part of all this is that they judge you for the rest of the life for something you did years ago, even if you quit the bad habits there is no redemption for them, they really make the bjd hobbie something difficult to bear
@Bobert Wiltshire well, I discovered I can get the 1/4 male to wear high heel boots by replacing the feet with 1/3 female high heel feet. Had to sand down the joints, but it was a nice surprise :) . Something I wouldn't even dare to think on doing with the expensive ones.

I notice a lot of commenters saying they enjoy collecting the BJDs quietly or in private because of bad experiences when sharing about their hobby online. People shouldn’t have to do that. It sounds like the artists and companies who produce these legitimately should try and help squelch the toxicity in their fan base.
the facebook bjd groups are really nice. It's DOA that seems to be the breeding ground for a lot of nonsense and that's more due to their "bury your head in the sand and ignore issues rather than discuss them like adults" approach to big issues like counterfeiting. I don't agree with or much like the moderation of DOA and there's substantially better communities out there, it's obsolete at this point. Once the big granddaddy, now pretty much useless. Who uses forums now? It's all instagram and tumblr and facebook and such. And I assure you, the facebook groups, the active ones, are really nice and the tumblr doll community in general is usually pretty cool. There's toxic people everywhere, I mean I got harrassed repeatedly by a bloody FURBY collector so hard I had to delete my account to get away from it, they kept making new accounts to send me more anon hate and spam my feed with personal attacks. FURBY collector, I mean jesus, furby people are usually so chill. The fact is, horrible people exist everywhere and don't represent a whole community, they represent only themselves.

Nope. They're not. There are lots of haters. Lots of drama. Mostly bragging on HOW MUCH they paid for dolls, no educational content or helping newbies.

Yes there's some full of tedious drama but that's "so called adults" for you. I've NEVER seen anyone bragging about how much they paid for a doll, what the hell group was this?
As someone who advocates for buying legit dolls, I also think mistreating people who aren't 100% educated on why recasts are bad also gets nothing done.
I would say don't let this completely stop you from pursuing or checking out BJDs in the future, however!!
I am not into it. But as of this I'd not want my kids or neices into them now. To sad for them if they do stuff wrong.
It is definitely a hobby that is difficult to get into, both because of the community and the high price tag.

The doll was a bootleg, plain and simple. But someone not in the know wouldn't know that. The word "recast" makes it sound like it's a legitimate product. I honestly don't know why people had to be so nasty about it when they know you only do limited research to give a fresh and honest opinion. Really sorry all of this happened, Jen.
Just the ‘re’ part of the word ‘recast’ alone just makes it seem like the company is just remaking an older design to rerelease them.
Right?! I've been a convention seller and I've sold reproduction gundams; old designs that get sold to 3rd party companies to make gundams Bandai is no longer interested in producing. They're completely legit, just not produced by Bandai's own factories. So it's not like it's completely unheard of in the industry.
Yeah, I think the community needs to come up with another word for them. "Recast" should refer to the artist remaking or having their dolls remade with a mold- and something like "Copy" or "Bootleg" should refer to the stolen designs.
It's the same with any regular art- an artist will do reprints of previous runs of artwork they had for sale. "Recast" unless you're in the know already doesn't sound like a terrible thing and doesn't imply at all that it's a stolen design.

Why do they call it a recast if what they really mean is "fake", why don't they just call a fake a fake instead of giving it the prettified name "recast", which, as has been said, makes it sound like something official. Without knowing something about a product if something was listed as a "recast" I'd assume it was like a reprint of the original done by the original artist. Perhaps those who first called them recasts were looking to mislead ppl in that way?!

Cuz I'd almost bet that if in that 20sec of research Jen came across the word "bootleg" or "fake" instead of "recast", this whole thing might not have happened.
Which it shouldn't have anyway. I, personally, learned about recasts and the issues with them from Jen's previous video - one more person looking to get into BJDs educated! - but nope, not good enough for apparently a huge chunk of that community. And there goes my interest in it.
Accidentally acquiring "bootleg" bjd without knowing and getting yelled about it is.. Just insane.

@@sonicrockz1011 Luvl I had a 3 recasts one after another, mainly to check their quailty. Well, people was rude to me too. I still don't think it's fair and even if I'm anti recast I respect others and always try to talk to them about bjd's. Our comunnity (imo) is about comunication and support, not hate. I have two bjd groups and we are anty-recast but we try our best to inform people and be nice to them always x)

@@sonicrockz1011 I know you're not the girl that I befriended a little over a year ago, but your age triggered the memory. She was 13 too and had been saving for over a year to buy her first BJD. She ended up buying a recast and when she joined a group they were incredibly nasty and vicious. She was devestated that this doll she'd dreamed of and saved for was 'not good enough'. The last message I ever received from her was her telling me she'd thrown her beloved doll in the bin and she never wanted another one. I tried to contact her e very day for weeks to make sure she was ok, but she never replied. Her final message to me made me cry for her. She was such a sweet kid, so excited and so proud of herself for saving up because her parents were 'too poor'. I hope she's ok, wherever she is.

@@Maukunen It's a fake doll basicly. It works like that: Someone in buys/gets original doll from the artist, then makes mold from that doll and then makes more dolls to sell them for cheaper price. So it's kinda like stealing from the artists. The worst part is when people buys recasts (willingly) and then try to sell them as original dolls for higher price.
Hey lady. You have nothing to be ashamed of. You stated your opinion and your view of the product. If people don't like what you said, then they don't need to watch your channel. You still have your true fans and your family. You're doing a great job.
When i first saw a BJD, I tried asking people in the BJD community about BJD's and where to purchase one. They were all extremly rude and they made it clear they didn't want new members who didn't know anything about BJD's. I bought my own and keep well away from the community as a whole. The dolls are amazing and I still love their look. You did nothing wrong.

I've asked the publisher questions but he/she never answered but a month later they said they where out of their "item" but I saw the number of dolls and it was 1034 dolls so I confronted him/her and orderd one and I got a twisted knee and and a small head
i had a similar issue, i had to do a lot of my own research and that's so foggy and hard to get through because everything is so vague and they have their own language, so now i try to be as open about any information people need from me as i can.
I'm sorry the community treated you this way. I've been a collector for over a decade. I mostly keep to myself and a few friends. If you need some bjd friends, I'm here as well.

It's so unfortunate that you've been attacked for something you didn't know about. I always advocate for buying the legit version of something, but you can't be faulted for not knowing about this. You're a newb to this community. I am so sorry to hear that you are being attacked for this. I always think that older members of a community should educate and help newer members instead of attacking them and pushing them away. I honestly loved the video. I don't understand why people treat others badly based on what they think of a product. People are allowed to like what they like. Jen, I watch your videos because I value an honest opinion, and it's good to know what you're looking at buying is worth the money. I appreciate your honesty and determination of being fair. I bought a bjd that was original, and a person thought it was a recast, came to talk to me about recasts, and she scared me a lot, I had to prove it was original showing the certificate ~ Creepy
Doll Cop sounds like the most lame ass thing to be in existence. "Show me your Doll papers or your going to Doll Jail" I would have honestly called the real police on that creep.
That is sick. Some doll brands dont even have CoA. My dolls dont have CoA bc RS didnt made those back when I bought mine. And this is why I feel that I could have a hard time if I ever feel like selling one.

Got a notification that Jen had a new video out and immediately clicked on it. I was a little confused by the title because I didn't know why that last video had to be taken down. I thought it was great and I really appreciated it. I had NO idea people were being so horrible to her about it! Everyone who was being so awful should be ashamed of yourselves! Not everyone will share the same opinions as you, that doesn't give ANYONE the right to be a bully. Jen openly admitted that she didn't know much about BJDs and wasn't trying to offend anyone with her review. The fact that so many people could be so horrible to her over something so ridiculous is grade A proof that many people shouldn't be allowed to use the internet unsupervised. You rock Jen! An IG bjd seller called me too poor for the hobby and told me to buy Monster High dolls. I have zero interest in storebought dolls and I simply asked about the price of an outfit. The people that are deep into the hobby are extremely cliquey and your typical mean girls that want to gatekeep the hobby.
I find most of them really toxic and even though I still follow some on IG, they are so full of themselves over spending hundreds and thousands on plastic. That's all the dolls boil down to. Plastic.

The BJD community is sometimes really awful - Even from your BEST FRIENDS...or who you thought was were your friends. I collected legit BJDs for more than 4 years and was the admin of a very popular local BJD group, and was very much a pro artist as I was an artist myself and my business was BJDs. Someone new bought a recast doll by complete accident as her first doll, and people in my group wanted her to throw it away or destroy it (The recast was over $300 too). I wanted the group to not judge her for a mistake and as long as she didn't intentionally do it again, it would be okay. We could help her collect real dolls. People LITERALLY cried and left the group, saying it made them sick and they couldn't even be around a fake doll, EVER. Because those members were more senior than me, I was pretty much ousted from the group, and the girl who made the mistake was kicked too. I've also heard horror stories of people destroying other people's dolls if they were discovered to be recast in other local groups, i.e. throwing it against a tree or into a lake.
I since sold most of my dolls. I hope to collect, but if I do, I am going to do so privately.
That's horrible! I never knew some people could be so horrible and destroy other people's dolls just because it's a recast.
It's like hitting someone just for wearing fake designer clothes. Not everyone can afford the original thing.
Holy cow. I took an interest in Dollfie so many years ago and never bought a super size one because of the price point. I’m glad I exited that scene before any of this started. This sounds disgusting.

I remember when I first tried to get a BJD, I did some research and brought it up to a few people I knew who had some. They jumped down my throat because one of the few I was looking at was apparently a recast. They refused to talk to me for a month.
I never got one after that and told them to pound sand when they came back to me because they "forgave me"
Well, this completely slipped under my radar. Sometimes it baffles me how incredibly toxic people can be online. Not just in their choice of words, but in their opinions as well. Quite frankly it is unacceptable and a lot of these people conveniently forget that they themselves are not perfect.
I find it hard to believe that the majority of those saying such things to you could have belonged to your normal audience. Surely, anyone who has watched your videos should, to use their own phrasing, know better than to assume any malice on your part. If they were even vaguely familiar with your content, they would know that you never try to cover up the faults of a product, nor engage in conduct that you know to be wrong. I am tempted to think that one or two in the community might have come across your video, then spread the word which lead to dogpiling.
I think that some people tend to forget that they are privileged to be able to purchase originals, rather than recasts. I am an artist myself, I create handmade fairy furniture, houses and do digital art. I am very aware that far from everyone has the ability, be it because of founds or something else, to commission me. Originals are not cheap and far from everyone has the money, so when someone chooses to pay me, I am very grateful. I find it incredibly arrogant to 1) look down on someone for having to go with a recast, or treat them like monsters, or 2) to presume to know why the person has a recast to begin with.
I refuse to believe that any person, have they the opportunity, the knowledge or the means to do so, would consciously choose not to support the creator behind something that they love. If they lack one or more of these things, it is not a lost sale, for they would not have purchased the original to begin with. This is not me saying that one should not endeavour to support the creators if one can, but rather an attempt to caution people against assuming to know everything behind other people's decisions. If you are able to purchase an original creation, good on you, but do not vilify those who have not acted like you for one reason or another. It will only ever reflect badly upon yourself and your community.

I understand a lot of the reasons people collect BJDs, but at the same time, I don't understand the reason some people get their pants in such a massive twist over them (ethical issues with production and wasteful packaging aside, of course).

No one who is not in the BJD community can be expected to know how a recast BJD differs from a "knockoff" Barbie or Monster High or whatever. On the surface, the concept is exactly the same, and anyone who expects a newcomer or outsider to fully comprehend why this is not the case has unrealistic expectations. One of the reasons for the heavy backlash is because several well-loved and well-respected doll companies have closed down because of recasts made of their dolls. This is understandably upsetting. That having been said, the backlash against you was completely inappropriate and uncalled for. I am ashamed of my community for having made you take such drastic action as taking down the video. I really wanted to see it and judge for myself and I can't do that now. I have been in the BJD community almost since there has been a BJD community. I am pro-artist, and I believe recasts should not be knowingly purchased by anyone. I wish people knew that people are allowed to be clueless when they're new to something like BJDs. A lot of people have accidentally bought recasts as their first dolls. I personally have a recast because my mom got it for me not knowing it was a recast. People, there is a way to tell people something is wrong without being hostile.
As a collecter, there's always a golden rule I follow:
"Collect things that you have a genuine liking to, never collect simply for their value alone"
People who put inanimate objects before the wellbeing and feelings of others have something extremely unhealthy going on. It makes me wonder if they even value the dolls they collect or they're buying them to feel some kind of self worth.
Here's a bit of a morbid reality check: we're not going to live forever, so whatever we own will get left behind. All those "priceless" BJDs may eventually end up somewhere unconventional, maybe even broken or devalued in some way. There's no certainty that all original BDJ dolls will be as important as they are now, even if they will be, elitist people are just wasting their time being hateful.

Recasters are literally art thieves, it's not necessary for you to have a BJD and if you want a cheap one you can get cheap ones from someone who's not *literally* stealing other people's work and claiming it as their own. I'm so sorry you had to go through this and that it has made you not want to associate with the BJD-community in the future, though I completely understand why you would feel that way after this whole mess. I am strongly opposed to recasts and would never intentionally purchase one myself, but I would never, ever harrass someone over their choice to buy one, especially not if the person in question is new to the hobby and doesn't know the difference. I don't think anyone buys a recast because they are awful people who want to hurt artists and legit BJD companies, people buy recasts because they simply don't know any better. That warrants EDUCATION - NOT bullying. You can't expect people to know everything from the get go, it's completely unreasonable. We were all confused, uninformed newbies at one point, and a lot of people seem to completely forget that.
Recasts are a problem and it needs to be talked about, but we GOTTA start educating people about the matter in a kind and respectful way, because I'm sick and tired of seeing people get yelled at and torn down for not being experts, to the point where it makes people want to leave the hobby completely. Your video was absolutely fine and I wish people would have seen it for what it was - an opportunity to welcome a new member to our community AND have a friendly, constructive conversation about recasts at the same time. The bjd community is full of adults who act like children. It’s so toxic. Thankfully there are people who are supportive even if you have recasts. I bought recasts spitefully when I received hate. It wasnt until I found legit owners who were kind and still accepted me that I eventually slipped to the legit side. It's hard cause a lot of the bigger companies dont care so much about their customers but a really good one is dollits. They're so active and nice, I adore them. You should check them out
You know, a lot of the doll molds are sold to outside companies by the artists themselves. You could have recasts that are 100% legit, just not hand done by the artist.
Duckily ART I wouldn’t mind a legit doll but the price is what always turns me away. I already have recasts and the quality is great so I’ll most likely stick with recasts.

I personally am against recasts, as it is stealing from the artist, but I don't hate people for buying them. I especially don't hate people who don't know the doll they have is a stolen copy. No one is hated for buying a pirated dvd, right?
But the artist could consent to a recast. You don't know if the artist told the recaster if it was ok. Granted that's rare. I do understand that. I just don't think anyone should be so violent or against someone that buys a recast cause you don't know the whole situation.

I’m so sorry you were attacked. Not only did you have NO IDEA that the doll you were receiving was a recast up until the unboxing, but even if you did know before accepting you aren’t in the BJD community, most don’t understand the depth of why recasts are so hated in the community.
Personally, I understand why people buy them. It’s not that they don’t want to support original artists, but they simply can not afford it. Recasts are a wonderful way to get started in the BJD community and see if its for you.
Also lots of recast are ways of get discounted dolls of houses that don't make certain models anymore, seryusly you not harming them for buy a copy of model of 7 years ago they discounted they just rude and gatekeeping people.
I think it's personally weird that people will attack people for buying them versus the people that's actually making the fakes.
It's also extremely wrong when people don't know it was a recast or copy, or are new to a collection hobby/community like this and get put in the wrong for not knowing the ins and outs.
I have been bought many nendoroids by family who have bought them for less or near enough the exact price for the real version, just to receive a fake or copy, which some are scary super quality, correct colour, even exact joints and such to be the real deal.
As a BJD artist- Yes, it's better to buy directly from the artist if you can, but it's understandable that A) a first time buyer wouldn't know to do that or B) you can't afford the price from the artist. Of course, I recommend saving up for the original if you can. Artists pour a lot of love and time and energy into making their doll and it does suck their work is essentially stolen. But in my mind the fault is on the person doing the recasts, not the buyers. I love your channel Jen and think no differently of you for buying a recast. It's an honest mistake to make and hope that you will consider stepping back into the world of BJDs in the future.

I poked my nose into the BJD community once. Read a few posts on one of the few forums out there. And noped out of it.
I prefer to stick to Barbie and American Girl dolls - Because we who collect mass produced dolls made by bigger companies...have the freedom to accept and have fun with knockoffs and clones of our mass produced toys. BJDs are an expensive habit to have to hide from the world. If I'm going to shell out for a new doll, I want the freedom to share it online with the rest of the doll/toy community.
The majority of the BJD community on the internet unfortunately is harsh and nasty. I get that recasts are looked down on by collectors because they *do* take away from the original artist, it really is a form of art theft by the person or people selling the recast though, not the first time buyer who didn't know any better. But even the Reborn community aren't a bunch of assholes about it if the first doll you buy accidentally is a fake...they simply educate you on how to tell it's a fake and direct you to the original artist's nursery shop to see/get the real thing.

I love BJDs. So much better quality there’s no comparison. IF you can afford them. I’m not in this hobby for some ‘community ‘ either. I’ve got friends who also collect dolls (BJDs & others) & still go on DOA occasionally (the Marketplace basically) but I’m not giving up my dolls because of any toxic elitist 😂🤣
Honestly I was looking into starting to save up for my first BJD for a while, and after watching this horrible situation there is no amount of money you could pay me that would warrant getting involved with that community. It is the COMPANY making the recast who is at fault! They are straight up LYING to their customers. You can't fault someone who doesn't know and believes what a company is saying. These people should put their time and energy into filing formal complaints against the companies. They would actually do some good then. Attacking innocent buyers does literally nothing but make themselves look like a psycho. Filing complaints against the companies is the only way to stop the problem. If everyone who said something to Jen about the doll filed a complaint the company would definitely be investigated and shut down. The governments would take THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of complaints very seriously while just a few complaints they can ignore. But I understand that takes time and effort these people are far too lazy to put in. Filling out a form online is far too much work for them (even tho they claim to care so much about the artists). It's much easier for them to virtue signal by bullying people online then for them to fill out a form. They won't get attention for being a "good person" by filling out a form but they can get that attention they so desperately need by publicly attacking people to signal how much better they are than those who buy recasts. I agree. And I don’t have a really bad view on recasts to be honest. For people who can’t afford originals by the artists....they aren’t going to buy an original because they can’t afford it. So it’s not like the artist is losing money when the person could never afford it. In a way recasts allow less fortunate people who don’t have tons of money to join a hobby they would have been priced out of. But anyway, that said, most recasts and knock offs, and this goes for most things in general, come from China. You could write a million complaints and they will never care. I think maybe that why they attack individuals instead but who knows. I just wish people would live and let live.

I am a member of an art doll community. We make hand made, one of a kind, art dolls and toys (usually fantasy animals).
There is a big problem in our community of companies stealing our art and selling copies of our work.
The big difference is: we do not attack the people who have bought from those companies. We understand that there is a 99.99% chance that the buyer was completely unaware that the art was stolen.
We speak out often about the companies that steal and try to make as many people aware as possible. But we put the blame where it belongs, firmly in the hands of the companies who stole the art!

I'm so sorry people were rude and cruel to you. When I first joined the hobby three years ago I had bought a recast. I was ridiculed and bullied for it constantly. It just made me hate those who enforced it so much. It wasnt until I met the nicer people that I bought my first legitimate bjd. Eventually I got rid of my recasts and converted to legit only; not because I gave in but because it felt nicer for me. As it should. I feel terrible that the people in my hobby would attack you over something so small as recieving a doll. They've made many many people quit. I'm listening to your video as I'm typing this out. I'm so incredibly disappointed in the people who attacked you. But they really do treat recast owners like scum. As someone who has owned a fairyland legit doll and recast doll I dont hide the recasts were far superior in quality to the legit much more expensive ones. The only difference is the fact that ones a copy and hurts the artists. That's literally it. It was so unfair that they went after you for just being honest. Frankly this hobby has two sides; a really really ugly and cruel elitist side and a really genuinely friendly and open side. I cant do anything more to convince you to give bjd another chance however I do think the hobby needs someone as honest and respectful as you.

Goodness. Sounds like the Blythe doll community. Left there years ago because of bullies and fights over “factory” Blythe. Which I think are the equivalent to the BJD recasts. It always amazes me that a community is what can take away from the joy of collecting in many different hobbies. I’ve found doll collecting can be pretty strange compared to other hobbies so I just enjoy this hobby in my own now. I’m really glad to see a video on this topic.

@@LightningStar hinge joints only allow motion in two directions and ball joints usually have a wider range of motions. :) I think, original Blythe body is more like one from vintage barbie dolls, with wire inside their legs, and some people put blythe heads on azone bodies, which still aren't bjd.

Norman Jayden she did look up the gift and even mentioned it in the video that she found out it was a recast. At the end of the day, it’s still the community who is in the wrong. Jen doesn’t know much about BJDs and at least admitted that it was a recast, the community still felt the need to attack. There is nothing you can say to make that right. One person making a mistake about something they’re not knowledgeable on does not warrant a majority of a community to come and attack someone.

I would really like to see her evaluation of the recast doll as well. I have dealt with that community before and I would say about 2/3 of them are reasonable people. I'm glad to see people speaking up against the unreasonable remainder.
China BJD makes recast dolls and there is an elite portion of the hobby who believe if you can not afford a legit doll you are not good enough to be in the hobby. They are plainly ignorant and don't even know what they are actually talking about. I have several recast groups where I provide a safe place for recast owners to show off their dolls whether recast or legit, all are welcome if they can be kind. I'm so sorry to hear that you have been hit by their ignorance as well, you're such a sweetie. I own both recast and legit because I know the truth rather than call it a high class hobby and say if you are not high class, you have no right to be in the hobby. After this video I did some researches on the community and holy molly, I feel like there is such a huge part more interested in hating everyone than the dolls! I found testimonies about a massive forum online, call Den of Angels or whatever, where people are so so arrogant and proud of their own little dolls. I found a testimony of an artist who had to sell her dolls at lower prices (that she created, put time and effort in) because of medical bills (after selling some at regular price before any illness), and everybody on the forum united to tell her that she was horrible, she used medical bills as an excuse and all, while she was ILL... How do people just become like that? How fans of something as pretty as those dolls can become so toxic? This is why, whenever I became fan of a videogame or a movie, or anything else really, I stay away from their fanbase. I don't get how you can become so fan of something to the point of considering it YOUR own thing and then attack people for having slightly different opinion or just being uniformed, as if you were born knowing everything about the object of your admiration. Well anyway, I hope you will be okay Jen, you're such an awsome, positive and honest person, I love your videos even though I don't buy toys anymore (except the puzzle snake thing, that helped me so much with my lack of focus problems so thanks for that :D). I think most of the issue is that BJDs are really expensive, so they attract the type of people who buy them just because they're expensive. Then they feel they can look down at people who don't buy expensive ones. Before recasts were around, they looked down at people with dolls from cheaper companies. Heck, they still do, just not as much now.

The problem is that in every hobby there are vicious or stuck up people and those are the loud ones. Most of the people in the bjd hobby are very helpful, friendly, incredibly passionate and creative. And they stay out of drama.

While researching, I found some very nice people being part of the community, and even on RUclips there are plenty of good, artists and all sharing what they love. It's such a shame that every fandom has to deal with those plaguing their passion with drama... Holy smoke holes!! I'm like you.......I've never owned a BJD, but I think they are wonderful. I've always wanted one, but couldn't afford. I discovered polymer clay a year ago and started making my own. I'm having a ball (and joint hehe) making my doll and I plan to make available for sale one day. I dont know anything about the BJD world......I'm so sorry you got bombarded.....wow. I had no idea people were so defensive about recasts, which I understand where they are coming from after spending a year working own my doll. BUT to attack people is not making people listen..... But I've commented on doll customization about BJDs (giving constructive criticism) and have been RAILED for it. I've been a fan of customizations for a while and commented on someone who did a sailor moon BJD custom and basically said "I really like the doll, but i'm not sure that color was the best choice to show off as the background of the overall doll" and had people tell me I was an idiot and to go kill myself. BJD lovers are very toxic.

The only BJD I have and probably will ever have is a Fairyland Minifee I bought through Denver Doll Emporium. I bought the doll before I looked into the toxicity of the BJD community. It’s a shame because these dolls are so beautiful and diverse and it is such a great way to express creativity. I love how my doll looks and I love making clothes and props for it, but I will never join the community and I would never urge anyone else to join it. Luckily it’s just as satisfying of a hobby to do on your own and keep to yourself :)
Amen to that. I have a ton of dolls, and I LOVE to photograph them, but I also don't interact much with the community because I know how it is and I'm not dealing with that much toxicity without a paycheck. Minifees are wonderful and you picked a very great doll!
Hear hear. I rarely post on my own BJD-related media. Not a recast in the lot- I just don't need a heaping helping of bile with my painting, sculpting, and photography.
I post my photos, but I'm also a Literally Who so I usually don't need to worry about anything. I'm a vinyl collector, so recasts are thankfully not as much of a problem on my end of things -- but even fellow vinyl friends of mine have considered leaving the hobby just out of fear for potential backlash. I don't... think? Anyone I know has a recast? But EVERYONE I know in this hobby has confessed fear that they'll be accused and abused one day, or that they'll get in drama for some other thing- because that's just it. Everything in this hobby is drama... it's exhausting, but I'm glad there are some people out there who are happy to live, let live, and enjoy their collection in peace.
Maybe if more of us came out of the woodwork, we could drown out the negativity.
Recasts can be pretty harmful for artists as far as I know but that doesn't justify peoples behavior towards you. Doesn't surprise me though. The bjd community is full of hateful people that don't have a life besides buying expensive dolls and thinking that evens out their lack of personality. A bunch of unhappy lonely adults who take dolls way to serious. That's why I never got into collecting bjds even though they can be really beautiful pieces of art. But again, it isn't worth the terrible people.

Honestly? Anti recasters are very toxic people. YES, RECASTS ARE BAD. There is no doubt in my mind about it. However, people in this community are taking them way too far. They are not as much of a problem as the community is making them to be. Literally the artists behind BJDs are often known for selling their old molds to recasters because they know that people who buy recasts probably would never buy the original anyway and they don't want to keep old defective molds. I've heard stories of faceup artists who get sent recast heads and DESTROY them to make their owner feel bad.
Fakes of anything will ALWAYS exist. People who buy them are not the bad people. People who MAKE them are.

Recasts are a problem though, that's an undeniable fact. It takes months, sometimes years to design a BJD - sketches, hand sculpting, finding the right casting company etc.. And for someone in China (Not being racist, this is just where a HUGE majority of recasts come from, some artists actually refuse to sell to China for this reason) to purchase just one and make hundreds, possibly thousands of recasts of that one doll is a real punch in the gut for someone who hand sculpted that doll, especially when the price is often three to 5 times cheaper. I'd say that's why the community can come across as toxic, they are passionate and fully believe that having art stolen of any kind is incredibly damaging to that person. I'm not saying in any way that I agree with the method of which people took to this issue, it's regressive, but I don't agree that playing down on the issue of recasting is healthy either.
And to be honest, I think Jen handled this situation really well, I just hope she re-uploads with a short disclaimer (Like what Jenna Marbles did with the fish video), instead of just giving in to the toxic attitudes of some people, because there is a rather large difference between criticising someone constructively and just being an arsehole.
I absolutely loath people bullying someone just for buying a recast and i support everything you said until the last phrase: are you a bad person if you buy a fake? Obviously no.
Are you part of the reasons why the fake market exists? Yes you are. It's a commerce, if there are people willing to buy a cheaper fake version there will be someone willing to sell it, if tomorrow people decide to never buy a fake product again, next day there wouldn't be a fake market anymore.
Tbh It was disconcerting how big of an issue people made this case, the RUclipsr explained the circumstances in the video so people just had to shut up and go away if they really couldn't get over it

I’m, just now, getting back into the bjd community after 5 years. When I was 13 I was gifted some used bjds and as an excitable 13 year old I posted some photos of it and was yelled at for having recasts. I did not know what a recast even was and after months of mean comments and messages I ended up hating each and every one of my dolls and selling them. I’m now 18 and since I’m getting back into it, I’ve bought myself one, BUT will be collecting privately just so I don’t have to deal with the toxicity of the community. Even with the doll I’ve ordered and KNOWING it’s not a recast I’m still terrified that if the doll is in the background of a photo that I’ll get the comments again. Hopefully the community will eventually get better over time, but I doubt it will.
I have been waiting for this! I knew some kind of drama happened! I saw it coming & I was like omg she is so brave!! I had a friend in the BJD community for a while, she ended up in all this drama (won’t go into deets) she loved BJD’s so much but has now left the community because of all the drama 😕 the things they sad to her where so horrible & she said the scene is full of “gate keepers” that will or won’t accept you into the community & if one person decides they don’t like you they’ll all gang up on you. It caused her a crazy amount of anxiety & even though she loves her dolls their all hidden in her closet now... really sad, you can’t expect a “newb” at something to know every rule, I wish they were nicer to people just getting into a hobby...

I have been in the bjd hobby for years. While recasts are damaging to the artists and hobby; I agree the toxic behavior is also very damaging to the hobby and in some cases to the artists they are trying to defend! I have seen people leave the hobby because they have been bullied or mistreated (whether it's about recasts, or how they customized a doll, etc), ultimately resulting in loss of a customer for the artists! I don't understand why people can't just be kind?! Of course education about the ins and outs of the hobby are important. Ultimately people will do what they want, and for many people that is ruled by what's in their wallet, and no one else can't control that. If at least people could be kind and understanding then sure, some people will continue to buy recasts... but we may gain a few people who will support the original artists as well; and maybe even more importantly not alienate potential newcomers to the hobby, or existing collectors! Nothing justifies the bully behavior and even death threats that people send regarding recast dolls! It certainly does not help the hobby, it just makes us look like a mean ugly mob!! (I promise many of us are very nice!)
I'm so sad that this was your first experience with bjd! (also, your new definition is funny!) I hope even if you no longer speak out on the topic of bjd you can enjoy the doll you have (even if she is recast, and her clothing fits poorly! Poor girl! I'm sure you can find some lovely well fitting clothing for her if you want - many artists make clothing for the minifee size online on places like etsy 😉 You can even find her different wigs and eyes!) You have done nothing wrong by accepting the free doll and giving your review, and I know given the opportunity you would have loved to review an original/legit bjd as well!
Ultimately, I stay in the hobby because each of my dolls is a work of art, and nothing can ruin my enjoyment of them (I am also fortunate to have been in the hobby long enough that recasts were not so prevelant when I started!) There are a lot of really great, and kind people that I have made friends with through this hobby (despite the drama - some of which you unfortunately experienced)! Also, I want to continue to support the artists that make the beautiful dolls I love!
I hope anyone who has an interest in bjds is not deterred by the bully behavior of some of the hobby members. We need kind hearted sensitive people who love their dolls, and are kind to all others who love their dolls, in this hobby and that means you - admirer of bjds! Also, if anyone has questions about where to buy an original/legit bjd or about the hobby reach out to people online. There's tons of information and helpful kind people who would love to get you started and help you find your perfect first original bjd! Same goes for customizing your doll 😉 Good luck (and welcome)!

I feel as if people shouldn't be giving this much hate because all you were trying to do was a very thorough review of the quality of the doll. Yes, recasts are not the best, but there wasn't anything you could do about getting a recast since it was sent to you for free by the company. Even if it was a recast, all you were doing was checking the quality of the doll to tell people interested in buying it if the product was worth the money or not. There is absolutely no reason for you to get hate on just reviewing a doll. You even stated multiple times this was the first BJD you have ever received, so obviously you weren't going to know every single thing about it. This is exactly why I've never gotten into the BJD collecting, bc they do TEND to be more judgemental, stuckup, and rude. Jen has been nothing but good about this all the way threw and tbh? They probably just chased off tons of ppl from possibly joining the community. Thats on them. I mean she said MULTIPLE TIMES that she didn't know much if anything at all about BJDs. No it's 100% the fault of the small minority who got abusive. MOST of the bjd people DID post supportive comments and education, the vast majority, several hundreds if not thousands of replies were kind and educational. a COUPLE of bad eggs have made everyone jump into the "ew bjd people are all bullies and nasty and horrible people" and that's aggrivating because the majority of us ARE NOT and the majority of us DID post kind things and try to educate and express sympathy for being conned by a known scumbag like Luo. This isn't the first time that guy has pulled a really nasty stunt and t his fallout? All these people turning against the bjd community becuase of a few negative comments? That's exactly the kind of thing he and his fans want. So many recast collectors (people who know they're counterfeits but don't care) claim they'll happily continue to hurt artists because the community is "mean" and "toxic" and "elitist" which is ALL propoganda to paint themselves as innocent victims and the legit side as horrible nasty snobs. It isn't true, it simply isn't true, and it makes me honestly really angry to see so many people falling for this nonsense. This is what Luo wanted to happen and it's gonna get him a load of sales and hurt several companies who had nothing to do with this mess. And that's sickening.
I totally get you. There are times I wish I had never discovered BJDs and entrenched myself in the community (more than 12 yrs now) and just stuck with American Girls. The community always had its nasty side...it's just now, it's targeting recasts...before it was cheaper BJDs like Bobobie and Goodreau. It's like these people have no real world problems so they have to find something to champion. They certainly aren't championing the poor, that's for sure!
There are recast friendly groups on places like Facebook that are much friendlier and that sort of behaviour is not tolerated.
As an owner of Resinsoul, I have in the past been shamed for owning a RS doll and not an expensive doll. But I love RS and love how lovely their dolls are and that they offer so many colours and even customs. Ive seen ppl get dolls with 4 arms eveb if that isnt standard. I have and will always recommend RS before any other brand.

Ahhh I remember the whole Bobobie/ResinSoul is evil saga! I was in the community when that was going on, left shortly after because it seemed like witch hunts and bewares left and right for owning a cheaper doll..
I always thought it ridiculous that the amount of money you don't have garners you more shame! It's prevalent in the lolita community too.. heard numerous tales of girls who accidentally bought replicas and were then shamed out of the community or girls who bought the replica in size regular human and then get shamed for not fitting into Brando. .
I've never been able to afford my own BJD or Lolita so I've always made my own (I remember getting mocked for it too. For not being able to afford what is essentially designers high end product). Times like the video make me super glad I am not as entrenched in the communities as I once was as they can both be quite vitriolic.

I'm a bjd collector but I'm not part of any communities because of all the drama. People in the hobby really get gassed up over a recast,or heaven forbid you get a cheaper doll like a Resinsoul or a Bobobie. I get the dolls I like and follow a lot of bjd artists on IG. And that's it really.
Planning on getting me a doll from them because their 70cm are cheaper than any other bjd companies I've seen. Besides I do like one of ths 70cm dolls anyways and another that is a little shorter than that.
I'm really mostly a part of the community to get information on dolls and help choose out parts that would fit the character I want to make.
Since even 3D printed dolls don't count I will most likely post it on my Instagram and on the bjd Reddit group that actually allows 3d printed ones anyways.
So basically Ill be happy to join more chiller and relaxed communities on these matter.

Amen to that. I’ve been in it for about 6 years and everything has only gone downhill. It’s like the whole community lives off of hate instead of a mutual love for DOLLS. BJD collectors can be more childish than actual children.

Sorry for this late comment this video was in my recommendation for videos. I have recasts as well, but also some legit ones to. I made a post on the bjd fb group about buying a recast to learn how to do faceups and body blushing I didn't want to try on my 800 dollar bjd and mess up. I got bash saying there are ways to clean it up. I understand there might be, but I'm not taking that chance to ruin something I worked so hard saving up for. I also told them if they want to buy me a bjd to practice on go right ahead. I was bullied was being called names. Even someone told me to go kill myself. I left that community, but I still collect bjd for myself not for anyone else. But lately alot of the recast I have bought have been better quality then the original artist.

Norman Jayden let’s face it. There’s still much bigger problems we need to be concerned about than people getting annoyed at a shop. Not like the horse meat crisis a few years ago is it? It’s not the end of the world because a woman bought a doll from a shop. I understand the issues with the shop and it’s products but we can’t expect a woman to know all the information of one thing she buys compared to the 100/1000s of peoples knowledge put together who can watch a video and tell her. The video is gone. Problem solved. But would it kill people to explain and act nicely instead of acting like it’s Armageddon?
Norman Jayden I mean I’m not looking to argue. And I have nothing against people talking to sort something out. But most people isn’t all people. And as much as you might be respectable it will be clouded by those people who do spread hate and cause problems. We remember those things more clearly. And it’s those people who ruin things for everyone else. You can’t accidentally tell someone to get over the death of a loved one. But you can accidentally buy a product misinformed. It happens everyday. Are we getting on the same page yet haha?
Norman Jayden it’s not irrelevant if it means people understand things better in the future. And I’m not against this hobby at all. I’ve actually show interest in it myself. And if that’s how Jen’s behaviour is then she needs to not rise to people’s words. But she did explain that she didn’t really understand what a recast was. I don’t think everyone’s been brilliant in this situation but that’s just how people are.
She didn’t understand the situation she was in clearly. And I don’t expect her to know everything about everything. As much as it’s not good that these people have gotten business wrongly from her video her job is to review the product. She didn’t know about the recast problem and all she did was look at the physical product and let us know if it was decent quality. It’s not like she promoted recasts on purpose knowing that it was stealing someone’s work.
I've been recommending your informative videos at work to adults buying toys as gifts, so they can see an HONEST review of them rather than a commercial. I was worried something would happen, because I've heard how much toxicity and gatekeeping goes on in that "community." Keep doing what you're doing, and we love you Jen

They always say they just want to educate newbies owning a recast but that is big lie.. they just want to make recast owner feel horrible..
This is one of the biggest problems online in that hobbies or media with a large following always have that toxic cloud in them that doesn't allow for a margin of error when it comes to someone who is new to it and may not be aware of things like this. For some reason they think the only way to respond is with nastiness and bullying instead of simply patiently explaining what the issue is and helping you understand why something like a recast is not a good thing. There's no excuse for being rude and creating a dog pile on someone who isn't very familiar with the community or the thing the community is centered around. It's a highly unfair and frightening reaction. It's not difficult to be kind and understanding. There's no need for the amount of vitriol you received. This kind of behavior is what turns people away from wanting to be part of a community or even continue with that interest because people are just mean and vicious
