Prince was displaying something that moderns day artists don't do anymore: Putting in the hours to hone their skills. - Note for example that he puts his fingers in the air to signal how many breaks the band must play. The band members themselves have expressed in subsequent interviews that that was the most difficult thing about playing with Prince. Because if you missed the cue, it was going to be hell to pay, you had to be on the ball all of the time. - Rehearsals for tours would lasts months and eight hours a day, every single move was practiced over and over until perfection. Much like a sports game with Prince being the coach of the team. There's this anecdote from NPG bass player Levi Cesar Junior when the band was about to take the stage for the "Sign o' the times" show and he went "Good luck everybody!" at which Prince got right into his face and growled "Haven't I been working you hard enough?" at which Levi recalled the long hours and nodded, Prince had worked the band to death. At which Prince continued that there is no such thing as luck involved with pulling off a good show, just HOURS of very hard work.
Prince was a bit extreme, super supreme, and definitely sweating music out his pores. Unmatched by any other human. The energy charge from attending his live shows were incomparable...during any era, right up to 2016.
Yes I saw that interview the band members said about working with Prince. They said you have be on your toes at all times with Prince. He would change up the order of songs at the last moment. I know that's true. Because he never repeated the same exact concert back to back. Do you know how tough that must have been for those musicians. But I'm sure Prince was hard on them to get the results he wanted.
Love your reactions and this is a GREAT song choice! And very cool that it’s one of the few videos where we get to see him on drums. 🥁 A few notes: That’s the American National Anthem music n words at the beginning (Pledge of Allegiance is what we recited in class). And he was throwing “records”-12”, 33 rpm vinyl albums at the crowd. (CDs weren’t really weren’t a thing until early to mid90s). The pants with the see-thru backside is one of many reasons females loved Prince, though he may have been wearing Flesh-colored tights/leggings like he did in 1991 with his infamous yellow suit with the backside cut out. So, probably not truly see-through.
The Pledge of Alligence was a recited patriotic verse that we all said in school. I pledged alligence to the flag etc. The patriotic song America The Beautiful, is a song from which Prince took the line "America America God shed his grace on thee". It's from the song not the verse we recited in school. I was confused until I said both and realized the difference.
The only thing Prince couldn't play was a horn. He recorded his first three or four albums himself. He would play all of the instruments. Sometimes he'd tell one his band what to play. If they didn't play is right, he would take their instrument and show them how to do it. He wouldn't be nice about it either.
prince is a boxer like Ali here but he orders his orchestra what to perform and his swagger is flooding like a tsunami...tsunami comes wave after wave so does after each encore stoping and starting ... again and again its overwhelming out of this world
Please God no. I worked one of his shoes and it was a night mare! One kid jumped from the third floor one kid got his face obliterated and don't even get me started on the mosh pit.
Yall need to start from the beginning! Yall have about 35 years of music to get thru! His published catalog is ridiculous! What his devoted fans are also curious about is his vault of unpublished recordings! He's covered several genres of music, effortlessly! You already heard his Rock side. He's masterful in Funk, Jazz, blues, and everything in between! Like i said, 35 years of music! Start with I Wanna Be Your Lover, then get to DMSR, Lady Cab Driver, 1999, Controversy, When Doves Cry, Baby Im A Star, Purple Rain, America, Around The Worrld In a Day, Raspberry Beret, Mountains, Anotherloverholenyohead, Girls & Boys, Venus De Milo, etc etc etc
Prince was the modern Day Mozart. Michael Jackson was a great pop star but fans to put him above prince is delusional. Find me a song that you can get romantic with from MJ or clips of him jamming with musicians, after part concerts, playing a concert with him guitar or piano only. Once again, Michael was awesome but Prince was Music..........
Check out dreamer by prince. There is video to it. And please keep your comments section open. And also check out Eric B and rakim song lyrics of fury.
How many artist can make one song sound like an entire concert? Think about it. HE IS THE GOAT!!!

If Prince just touches a guitar, I mean, he doesn't play it or turn it on, he just TOUCHES a guitar, it was a 10.
