The song "America" is from Prince's 7th Studio Album 'Around the World in a Day' released in 1985. I do believe it was a single.
he played every instrument and sang every vocal on his first 4 or 5 albums. He put the bands together for the live shows.
The Revolution is the most underrated band.
revolution was greater than the sum of its parts. npg was full of very talented musicians but the music didn't speak to me.
Hands down, the tightest band he ever had. He ran them through their paces, and they were infallible, imho.

I saw Prince in concert twice and I worked crew for New York TV shows with him several times. There was absolutely no one like Prince.
Prince wrote all the songs for The Time, that is why they sound like him.

It kinda makes sense that The Time would sound like Prince, since he created them, wrote all their songs, and played all the instruments on their albums during this era. The Time's first 2 albums are literally Prince albums, and they just replaced Prince's vocals with Morris Day's, so they could release ithem as Time albums.
It was actually Prince and Morris on mist tracks. Sometimes Jesse may play on a track or Lisa. But mostly it was a Prince and Morris set up.
He can shred the guitar too but wow that drum solo was awesome! That look afterword he was like ‘ya I killed that shit’ haha truly a special talent/ person 💜
Great choice, such energy! Only during a visit to the Rock n Roll HOF, did I realize what a master musician he was….what a loss.
Saw him just a couple of years before he passed away, the full band, horn section played a 2 hour set melody mashup of his biggest songs and everything was just precision on point with every note & beats played to his signals and direction. Did read he was tough to deal with in rehearsals that would go on for a long time but he was such a perfectionist, that was just the way it was. The end results though speak for themselves...hard to think of anyone today that could match up to that level
Not a perfectionist but continued strive for excellence. Being perfect would slow him down and that was unacceptable

Prince is just so awesome to watch. Saw him twice in back to back concerts and those performances were amazing!!!!! He does something no other entertainer I've seen do. He does not repeat the same show twice. You know how on point you have to be not knowing which song or order they are going to be in if he does shows like 3 or 4 days in a row!!!!!! Wow!!!

I'm glad that new exposure of Prince is making its way around the reaction community. You'll discover how privy Gen X was to see this genius live and that acts like this were common in that you had to have actual incredible talent to be famous in the music world. Last thing, this was a song of the album that followed Purple Rain. He changed everything about his sound, image, production but one thing that was constant in his career were his live performances. He was the Greatest of his generation bar none. Watch A Love Bizarre with Sheila E. No one did it like Prince.

Prince was all that and more....he lived and breathed music ....he was and still is a musical force to be reckoned with, I was blessed to see him in concert on several occasions....8 times...throughout the years of 1982- 2011......but to get the full embodiment of the Prince experience, I recommend that you start at the very beginning with the first album " For You " released in 1978 to Hit n Run Phase Two that was released in 2015 ..... basically Prince was releasing an album every year up until the time of his unfortunate passing....this is a musical journey that u will not regret, I promise you....especially the live performances, which are beyond LIT !!!! ....if y'all havent already, please check out the 36th NAACP awards where Prince was honored and performed...his award was presented enthusiastically by Angela Bassett and Dr. Cornel West ....." His Royal Badness " Did That !!!!! To this day, I am still amazed by him...loved the reaction...and that was Wendy on guitar Lisa is on the keyboard. Prince gives the kind of performances that u wish everybody that u know could be there to witness and be a part of !!!!!

He was throwing out tambourines. Did that quite often. And he was 5'2" or 5'3". And he played basketball ball on his high school team. He also had a half court in his home Paisley Park. And loved y'all reaction.💜

Those are his pants from the 'Kiss" video! I've been listening to him since jr high when his 1st album came out. I saw him twice in high school on the Purple Rain tour...just wow. I saw the movie Purple Rain so many times I knew every word of dialogue, lol. He was a musical genius and one of a kind.
Jennifer not the same pants. These are high waisted and a lacy material with a straight leg. You can tell they are lacy when he turns around and you see the back and they’re somewhat sheer. The Kiss video pants were much lower and flared at the bottom.
Prince was never on my radar aside from hearing his music when others played him. I came to respect him for his incredible talent and songwriting too late and never saw him live. One of my fellow smug music friends saw him in the eighties and raved about his guitar playing and his magnificent show, but I never went to see a Prince show. I don't remember the year exactly, but I believe Prince played with Apollonia and another female percussionist at a club called Dooley's at Michigan State University in 1977, but I regrettably didn't go. The local free "underground" newspaper in East Lansing had a story about this unknown genius who was going to have a huge impact on the music scene playing at a small club, and I remember his photo with two beautiful women. I chose to do homework instead of seeing Prince before he was known to anyone. What a missed opportunity!

@@masterofsparkshwy6974 i remember the second percussionist as Sheila E but Prince fans insist they met after the 70s. I think I probably read about this show in 1978.
@ Mike. Prince and Sheila met briefly in 1977, but they didn’t start working together until 1983. Apollonia didn’t meet Prince until late 1983 when he had her replace Vanity for Purple Rain. Apollonia isn’t a percussionist and I don’t think she plays any instruments. I’m unaware of any other female percussionist that Prince worked with prior to Sheila.

@@tracynorman1455 Thanks Tracy. I cannot find any mention of Prince appearing at Dooley's in East Lansing, but I know I read the article before 1979 when he was an unknown artist. Perhaps the show never happened or was moved elsewhere. Or maybe I'm old. :)
Saw him live in 96 in a small place in Toronto, saw Michael in 84: as good as Jackson was, Prince was a dancer AND a player, and that made the difference for me.
Michael Jackson hardly sung live as solo act.
The thing about Prince is he just doesnt stand there singing. He doing alot on the stage. He's singing, dancing playing multiple instruments. He's interacting with the audience and with the band members. Prince is the only performer who looks good in everything he wears!!! I cannot say that about any other performer. There is never a dull moment when Prince is on stage because he gives you so much.

And (IMO) his taste in fashion was on Elvis's level of "swag" this brought back some great memories, thanks fellas. I wonder if you two have listened to any "Neil Young & Crazy Horse" he formed the band Crazy Horse in 1969 and together they released 15 studio albums as well as numerous live albums. Here's a live performance in case you're interested "Neil Young - Sugar Mountain (Live at Farm Aid 1995)" I love this song by Neil Young; I believe it embodies all things that make Neil Young great: meaningful lyrics, vivid imagery, storytelling at it's finest and killer guitar playing. ...but nearly ALL of the musicians I hung with: new, understood, realized that: It doesn't matter what your friends listen to and the "style"/"genre" doesn't matter, either: You learn from everywhere and GREAT music comes in EVERY "flavor!" ...you, just, have to be able to recognize it (as well as: NOT FORGET that: SHIT music is made-voluminously- ...AND promoted!😡😡... in ALL of those SAME "flavors"/"colors"/"textures," etc., AS WELL!!!! and you have to AVOID and chewiness that --although: the people, who CAN'T (and DON'T!), will, constantly try to assault and "blame" you for "not liking their style"🙄🙄🙄🤦 or whatever. It was not far from PR, in fact the label would have had him still wearing purple but he was done. By the end of the Purple Rain Tour he was 2 albums ahead.

Hey ...I can't be sure that this is, in fact, from 1985 (as you stated in the intro.).
It is (as you, yourselves, can tell) The Revolution, but: firstly: the Purple Rain tour ended in early '85 and they didn't go back out until later in '86 (Fall or early Winter, I believe).
...Prince did: Under A Cherry Moon in the meantime!
--Ah! It, just, hit me!: This was, likely, a "one-off" he did, while filming (or around then).
It had to be, either, in Quebec or in France and he DID film in France (for: Under A Cherry Moon).
Also: all of the "looks" (the costuming, hair, style) are from what looks like the Parade tour or that era.
Much more "androgynous," but "slicked-back" and "streamlined," as well.
I can't tell who is on the horns, myself.
He added Eric Leeds (Madhouse, et al.👍) & Eddie M. [Mininfield] into the touring line-up of The Revolution, like, halfway into the Purple Rain tour. (Which, b.t.w., was the FIRST tour that The Revolution (the full band) had ever done, together!). Both played woodwinds (primarily -i.e.: sax.).
...On the Parade tour he had Atlanta Bliss with Eric Leeds. ...but Atlanta Bliss was, mainly, a horn player (trombone, I think ) so, I wouldn't expect him to be blowing dual sax. blasts with Leeds, here.🤷
...But, best bet is: this is either Eddie Mininfield or Matt "Atlanta Bliss" with Eric Leeds, kicking it out all over the place.

Prince could kill it on: just about ANYTHING you could find or name. ...I don't, personally, know whether he could play/or his level of mastery, if he did, on:
blues harp/harmonica, brass or woodwinds (likely, why he, always, sought out special players in these fields.🤷♀), harp, stuff like, maybe: Harpsichord or Pipe Organ (-He, of course!; had the key. skills ...maybe not the pedal skills or "feel," on those. particular, unique instruments.🤷🤷) ...I don't know that he could play flute or recorded (in a professional manner). ...but outside of those, pretty much: the man had EVERYTHING down (nearly!)!
He was, just, unmatched and un-matchable.
--Oh! As far as "influences, etc.: of course, you;re not wrong about J.B. (and, to some extent: Hendrix), but, in fact, he took much more from the "mutation/filtration" of J.B. by: George Clinton (and the Plainfield funk mob); and you should, also, become familiar with the work of one:
Shuggie Otis. Another "one man orchestra," composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, etc.
Shuggie Otis' Inspiration Information MAY be the MOST influential album on Prince, ever.

I, effectively, became a Prince fan at the same time that I became a MetallicA fan. Now, this was when: Metallica were, still, an UNDERGROUND band and an ..."edge flavor"/uncommon taste.
Prince had, already, been around for a while, but I didn't really know him because: Music (and many other things) were "separated" ..."striated." …Pretty stringently, too. (As an environmental [meaning: the environment that someone existed within/was or was forced to be "a part of," per se]/cultural phenomenon.)
I, personally, only (effectively) heard what was on the radio that I listened to/happened across (and *I*, personally, listened to a radio station which had "a wide berth!" (Wider than MOST, in THAT day!) -They featured: NOT just "the classic stuff" (which wasn't referred to as "classic," then, yet!) and "the flavor of the week" or whatever, but: they played: NWoBHM (a little), new wave, Metal, they had a Jazz show and metal specialty shows, once-a-week and, even, slid in some hip-hop (certain D.J.s were fans and were permitted to (as in the GOOD, EARLY days of FM!~) slip in their own favorites and what THEY liked, to play for their audience (who TRUSTED them!)!-for instance: Run-D.M.C. (this would be PRE-"Walk This Way" cover! ...or Eric B. & Rakim ...and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five "The Message"-I grew-up in N.Y.C. so: NOT knowing who Melle Mel was????-would have been like: NOT knowing the closest subway stop and bus liune, to your house. ...Not knowing what "a black & white," was. Everybody knew it.).
...SO: I what I think I was TRYING to "get to" was that:
It was considered, really "quite weird" (even at THAT point!) for anyone to listen to (never mind "be a FAN of!"), both: Prince and Metallica at that point! Hell, if you listened to Fishbone and also listened to Def Leppard AND listened to RUSH... ...you were "a weirdo!" ...However: most musicians that I knew (and I am one and was one, then ...and that is a large portion of who I hung around with, as well): they, all, maybe not "obviously" ...maybe "on the sly," a little; listened to as much music and as many different things as they could.
I had always had that experience, guidance, education and understanding and: it is the best thing I COULD have had!
...Learning: "Pachelbel's Canon" alongside: KISS and Queen and, The Beatles (of course) and The Beach Boys (of course!) and Buddy Holly and The Crickets, as well as: Black Sabbath and Michael Schenker and The Cars and Einstürzende Neubauten and Killing Joke and Joe Jackson and Spooky Tooth and Billy Squier and Savage and J.S. Bach and Tchaikovsky and Max Webster and Miles Davis and Fela Kuti and Jon Coltrane and Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles and anything from STAX or Chess Records and The Teardrop Explodes and .... just any and everything! Having that wide an expanse and being exposed to all of those ideas and emotions, just ...gives you and help develop the best basis for: appreciating and understanding ... anything life can throw your way (and how to find: beauty and purpose, even in things that you don't, immediately, recognize or understand -for example!-!)
