** About Corinne **
I am a French author and illustrator. My mission is to provide easy-to-follow tutorials for anyone interested in learning. Thank you so much for watching my channel!
I hope you will one day consider subscribing and following me for more tutorials.
Have a fantastic week and create some great art! Хобби
Thank you for speaking slowly, clearly, and systematically. No loud music, no wild fast gestures with your cursor, and no dashing off sideways to show us everything else that can be done other than what you are showing. Just straightforward instruction. Best video I have seen yet.
Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate your feedback. I try to make all my videos easy to follow. Have a great weekend.
...And on top of that, with a nice cute 'mignon' accent!
Keeping it slow, clear and simple makes it so much easier to take in. Thanks for another great tutorial.
Thank you for showing the many ways to remove backgrounds. I hope to be able to use them soon. They see complicated but will probably become easy with practice.
You are a tremendous teacher! I appreciate the calm and precise way you approach topics. There is always something new to learn, although I don't consider myself an expert. Merci!
Wow, thank you! and... de rien. C'est mon plaisir d'aider.
Very helpful! Thank you ❤
Thanks for the tutorial, I didn't know most of those techniques. I also liked you included keyboard shortcuts. Hope you have a great week too.
Great to hear. I wish I knew the perfect technique to remove backgrounds... one without having us to work so hard... I just hope these few techniques will help you with your projects. Thanks for watching. 😊
Thank you. Very clear and helpful.
Krita really need to hire you as their official tutor. You are so much better than any other channel it's ridiculous. Every other channel just seems to want to showcase their own art and has no skill at communicating to beginners how to use the software.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate them.
Merci pour vos enseignements, cela est d'une grande aide, bonne continuation a vous
Excellent, thanks!
Thank you very much! Merci!
You have given us another fantastic tutorial. I am learning so many tips and tricks for krita from you. Removing backgrounds was one of the first things I learned in Krita, but your different methods will make that so much easier and more efficient. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials. Have a good week and I look forward to your next video.
My pleasure 😊 Hope you have a great week too.
Very helpful indeed! I have often encountered the problem of loosing some of my picture after erasing the background, as in the demonstration with the pug, and have not understood how to fix this. I shall definitely use the filter mask method in future, thank you for showing so clearly how to use this :-)
thank you so much for this great video, saved me a lot of trouble
Your tutorials are fantastic - among the very best Krita tutorials!
Wow, thank you! This is a very nice compliment. You made my day!💕
this helped so much! thanks for posting this!!!!
Very cool to show some useful methods of background erasing so we can decide the best approach to each project . Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching.
This was so useful
This is the best video on the topic, hands down! Thank you so much!
Wow, thank you!
thank you this was sooo helpful
This was very helpful!!
Incredibly helpful! Thank you for helping my NFT project get a boost!
Great to hear, Garrett. Thanks for your feedback. 👍

Thank you so much, Corinne. You are a lifesaver!!! :) You got yourself a subscriber.
Glad it helped! Thank you for subscribing!
Very good tutorial :D
This Tutorial was amazing helpfull
I may have struggled a bit with understanding since I'm not used to the accent but this was a massive help ♥
Thanks 🙏
SO GOOD THANK YOU caps intended
Welcome! 😁
Thank you for the video!!
My pleasure!
You are so sharp in Krita! I was trying to figure this backgrounds removal tools for ages, and turned out it`s so simple, thanks to your videos.
You are so welcome! I am happy this helped you!
@@BladeandQuill I got one more question, so after you remove all the background but there color is missing in some parts of the image, how would you fix that? I used contiguous selection tool to remove the background. I did press CTRL+J twice but it would not fill the gaps in the images. Brush drawing is not working on the image.
Hello Nino. Try the method LOCAL SELECTION. I think this should be a better option for you. This way, you won't lose anything in the middle.
08:02 How to remove any complex background of a photograph.
Let me know if this worked better for you. Thanks.
@@BladeandQuill I used steps from 2.55 as I have white background and very complex image consisting of multiple small items with interrupted border lines (that was the original problem to remove background). Took me and hour to clear everything what became somehow transparent. Not sure where I can find Local selection tool.
just watch... I explain it in the video.
Glad to see your video again
As I told yeah I am not done with my exams
Once I do,
I will definitely follow the series
Lastly,
I love you voice 💓
Aww.... thanks. And good luck on your exams. You can do it... Cheering for you!
@@BladeandQuill Thank you!!!
See you soon

Огромное спасибо! 👍🙂😄
Ничего не было 😊
Cool, I use online AI background remover services. And image is usually low res but you can turn it into mask and resize it. Before I was using Inkscape to create monochrome shape and use it as transparency mask.
Hello. The video is old, so a lot of new AI background removal apps have come up since. Thanks for sharing.
I really loved this video! I just have to ask thought, what practical application would you use your last technique for?? It seems incredibly tedious when other options would do better and quicker. ❤
Hello Aimee. Yes, I agree with you, this was tedious for that picture. However, for simpler images where there are not too many colors involved, maybe a cartoon, this method is super fast. I just wanted to show the worse, this way, people can use it for simpler images. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for watching and great question.
A great tutorial. And like your accent. Are you French?
Great tutorial! I'm curious though. What about a layer that has something like fine hair or eyelashes and you want to keep just the eyelashes themselves but remove the background skin around them?
Hello FernandesNate. Since Krita doesn't offer AI-powered background removal like Photoshop or Corel (at least, to my understanding), you will need to manually remove as much of the background as possible around the areas of interest and then repaint the fine hair and eyelashes. Use a fine-tipped brush to carefully repaint any missing or distorted hair strands, blending them seamlessly with the existing hair. Go to Krita's forum and you will find a bunch of brush bundles to download. Some of them are hair brushes. I hope this helps.
Try this link:

So for the dog it's the complex object simple background technique, while the car it's the simple object complex background technique? Did I get this right?
superrrrrr
Aweesome!
Hello Corinne! From your previous instruction, I have my image, I unclicked the background and the paint is only on the image, not the background which means I was drawing/painting with that gray/white checker look, I did transparent on background. My picture is fine but I still see some original background in those checkers. I need it to be just the image (a head) with nothing around it so I can use it. If I export this is it just the image or does that checker back show up? I know you said save it as png not jpeg. Right now it is kra. I thought I would not see it looking like its not on a piece of paper, but only the head. Since I've never done it I dont know if checker indicates that part will not show up when I download or will it be just the painted head? If its not just my painted head can I get rid of the background in one of the ways in this tutorial? I hope that makes sense. Thank you!!
Hi Lora. Goint to reply to your email soon. It will be easier to help you there. Thanks for you patience. I was away from my computer for two days. Catching up on many comments and emails.
What if you take a picture on phone then export to computer for inking, how would you then give that drawing blank background. And nice vid keep up the good work 💯👍🏽
Hello Saga Rush. Try the technique I used at chapter "How to remove any complex background of a photograph" It starts at minute 8:02..
@@BladeandQuill Oh nice, thank you for everything 👍🏽❤️
I would like to use these techniques to filter the background out of a photograph of hand written letters. So that only the letters remain. However, it takes too much time to manually clean the edges of the letters like in this video. Is there a way to just subtract everything within a color range, so that everything but the black of the letters disappears without having to filter the edges by hand?
Hello. What type of background do you have? Is it textured? Is there a pattern? Is this a letter that was written on a very heavily decorated stationary? Is this a paper you scanned? So many question...
@@BladeandQuill It is calligraphy, black ink on white paper. The G'MIC method ended up working great, thank you!
Great to hear this worked out. Thank you for keeping me posted.
Hi, when I use the Fill Tool with Erase I don't get the checkered transparent background, it just remains white.
Hello. Sorry about the late reply. Are you still experiencing this? You only have one layer and it is the photograph or illustration... Right? Sometimes, you have to click a few times for the removal to happen. Since I cannot see your image, it's difficult to pin point the problem and solve it.
@@BladeandQuill Hi, I was able to get this to work today. thanks. Now I just need to clean up the fringing.
Thank you so much 🐐🫂
Hi! I think i've done everything in this guide... no luck. Here's what happened. Yesterday, I was drawing something. I still had the background layer. I saw form a comment on a different vid that to have the background layer transparent, we just have to delete it. It was successful. Today, I added another layer to paint on (3 layers to be exact) and I fused these layers. Now when I save it to png, I can't have it as transparent anymore. It has white bg. Do you perhaps have a solution? tysm
Hello. This is very weird. I tried replicating what you said and could save my image without a background. Now, I have a silly question (and please, understand that since I cannot see your interface, I can only imagine a few scenarios)... Are you sure you saved the image as a PNG and didn't check another format by accident? It happens to the best of us?
@@BladeandQuill yuuup :"). What i did is made a new file, copy that drawing and did the exact the same thing (deleting bg) and it finally worked. Haha idk what happened there honestly
Glad all is fine. Thanks for keeping me posted. Have a wonderful weekend.
Can you help me? I need to save a file as jpg without background, and I tried as you said, however the jpg file was saved with white background. What i should to do?
Hi Sevara. The best way to save an image without a background, is to save as a PNG. I explained to another viewer a few days ago that PNG supports high color fidelity and transparency. It uses lossless compression. Meaning that it preserves the original quality of the image without sacrificing any details. It maintains color accuracy and smooth transitions. I hope this helps.
@BladeQuillartacademy Oh, thank you, I got it.
When i removed the background and after that opened, the background is white, not transperant!
Hello. After you removed the background, did you save your image as a JPEG? When you save your image without background, you must save it as a PNG. If you save it as a JPEG, the JPEG will add a white background. Please let me know if this is what happened. Thanks.
Hi
When i tried to remove using G'Mic, I am getting an error saying "*** Error in ./fx_extract_foreground/*repeat/*local/*substitute/x_segment/ *** Command 'x_segment': No display available", any idea why this is happening?
TIA
It is very possible that you computer system is not compatible with G'Mic. However, this is a question for a computer expert. And I am afraid I am not one of those. Try to post your question on their website. Here is the link: gmic.eu/
Try the tab called report issue.
Also, try to post your question on Krita's forum. The forum is full of computer experts. Someone should be able to help you.
This is the link to Krita's forum: krita-artists.org/
I am so sorry I couldn't help you. Thank you for your question. If you get an answer, and if you don't mind, please post it in the comment area. Your answer may help other people who may have encountered the same problem. Thank you .
@@BladeandQuill Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my querry. Means a lot. It shows how great a teacher you are. You are one of the best teachers I have come across so far. Keep up the amazing work and thank you so much.
Yes, I will definitely try to update here once I arrive at the solution.
I completely forgot to say that in the manual they mention that the G’Mic plugin for Krita exists only on Windows and Linux. I just saw your email reply in my inbox. You said you are using a Mac. Did you know that you can set up your Mac to accept windows programs? Many years ago, I asked the IT team at the university I work for, to set up my Mac computer to do so. I had to do that, because at my work, everyone was using windows and were sending me documents I couldn't open on my Mac computer. Anyway... Long story short, the IT team installed some windows programs that was compatible with MAC. So, I could switch back and forth between Windows and Mac without any problems. I do not know if this is still a thing... Maybe ask around and see. This is where my IT knowledge stops. LOL. Best of luck.
@@BladeandQuill Thank you so much for the suggestion.
You have found how to prevent krita from adding a bland background to the recording?
??? I do not understand the question.🤔
Jesus Christ, what kind of a beast of a machine do you have? I have a 16 GB RAM laptop and the software just closed xD
wtf, maybe it's an issue with the software? I kept trying but nothing happens when I press enter, only that the window closes
Same thing happened to me when I was using my laptop. I discovered that my laptop wasn't strong enough to handle photoshop and Krita. So, I finally bought a bigger computer. The specs of my computer are as follow, if this can help you:
CyberPowerPC - Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i9-9900K - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super - 1TB SSD - Black
This doesnt work, after removing the black background of my picture, my picutre has black lines around it and doesnt look good
Hello. Did you try all of the techniques, or did you just try one of them? Just curious. Thanks.
@@BladeandQuill I tried the one where you paint the background with an eraser, but this left visible outlines around my model, so to fix this, i made a model with a background that is a similar color to the model and this fixed the problem
Got it. I am glad you made it work. Removing backgrounds is not an easy task! If you haven't yet, maybe watch the other ways I mention in the video. They may be helpful for another project. Never hesitate to reach out if you encounter any problems. Have a great end of your day.
How to remove the white background of ... a colored illustration?
Hello. There is no easy answer to your question, as I cannot see your illustration. I would use the ADD A LOCAL SELECTION technique to be sure you don't alter your illustration. The technique starts at minute 8:02. This way if your illustration contains white in it, you won't remove it by accident.
@@BladeandQuill I love that you replied! Thank you. You nicely organize different approaches to removing the background, but the one category that I needed wasn't there which had me thinking that it is so obvious it doesn't deserve it's own category. I'll look into the technique you suggest.
Great video as ever. Just .. the music, dude, lol. Your tutorials would be so much better without it. And we could put our own music on in the background. Peace.
Hi Eel. Thanks for the feedback. I have started to make my new videos without music. It started last week. You are not the only one who mentioned that. So, I listened... No more music. Music will only be on videos where I do not talk (speed painting). Cheers.
@@BladeandQuill That's great. Much appreciated
Ctrl, shift, E AND you have to mark them,
you forgot that, ffs ...
