There is a different kind of homeless/drug addicted/thief society that lives in or around marinas and coastal waterways. If you would feel at home pitching a tent under a freeway overpass, then you may fit in well at a marina that allows live-aboards. I brought my 53' motoryacht to the Bay Area in California and was blown away by the darkness of the locals.
