Very Nice! Your uncle was a great custodian, and your dad was a skilled a woodworker. I mainly carry revolvers, so I’m completely impressed! 👍👍👍💥
The trigger and hammer were common options. You've got to remember that at one time, Smith and Wesson handguns were put together by people who were shooters.
I see the handgun has a pinned barrel, so it was made before 1982.
It also has a recessed cylinder.
I've got a couple model 15 revolvers, and one or two handguns made prior to 1957, meaning that back then, the models were named. No model numbers
Only the magnum and .22 calibers had counterbored (recessed) chambers to provide case head support. Later to cut cost, the magnum counterbore chambers were deemed unnecessary and discontinued while the .22 continues the practice.
Was issued a S&W Model 15 in the USAF from 1986-1991. Most of us were allowed to keep the Model 15’s when they tried to give us the M9’s around 1989. So we had about a half and half mix between M9’s and Model 15’s. Great wheelgun
The first gun I ever bought was a S&W Model 19 (K frame .357 combat magnum), so I get the love affair with the old S&W revolvers. I own several and get them out to shoot fairly often. Your Model 15 is particularly nice, and I love the story that goes with it. Thanks for sharing.
My first centerfire was a Model 10. I still have it. One of these days I need to do a video with it too.
That is great when something is passed down from generation to generation and can still be used. 👍🏻
That’s a beautiful nickel model 15-3 all by itself. The fact that you have a connection to your dad and your uncle with it just makes it priceless. Glad you’re able to enjoy it and keep it in your family. Very cool 👍🏻
Love it! They just don't make 'em like that anymore. Family heirlooms like that definitely need to be cherished and passed down along with the stories behind them. Thanks for sharing!
My very first gun was a 15-3. I still have it. Bought it new in 1977. It came with the target hammer and trigger. It's blued and still in really good shape. Has the wood stock. Gun is all original.
Nice to see the old ones still in possession of the original owners!
Yet another excellent video! Thanks so much for sharing this with us. I'm sure that it meant a lot just being able to shoot your uncle's revolver.
The trigger and hammer are the optional target trigger and target hammer. They would be more common on the guns intended for competition such as the 14 and 17, less common on the 15. When you see TT & TH or TT/TH in advertisements that is what it means.
I picked up a S&W Model 15-2 about three months ago. The revolver came with wide trigger shoe, same hammer claw and an excellent trigger. Shoots really well. Looks like someone had that Model 15 of yours nickel plated. The Model 15 was a common firearm in the US Military among air crews until 1992. My S&W model 15-2 is extremely accurate and smooth.
Wow. Such a jewel. In my mid 40s, I now appreciate this more and more. Unlike I would have as a teen \ 20s.
The target hammer and trigger were S&W options. I have them on a 17 and a 19. I have a blue 15-3 that came with the standard hammer and narrow trigger. Nice nickel revolver. The left side of the grip was most likely relieved for a speed loader
Thank you for sharing the story of that beautiful revolver. It's a amalgamation of your family history. I would suggest documenting that history to preserve what is known for the future. Thanks again.
Very nice revolver. Thanks for showing it. The grips are really nicely done, and with the family history involved, priceless.
That work your Dad did was amazing. Did he every try and teach you any of the wonderful skills he developed?
Not really. I wish he had, but then I wonder how receptive I'd have been to learning it - y'know how kids are! His leather work was incredible.
@@JustinOpinionChannel Was he ever in the Philippines during the Vietnam war like Clark Air Base?
The cut out on the left stock is probably relief for speed loaders.
I love the timeless revolver design.
Great gun your uncle had awesome taste. Your dad a great job. The tumb are is releaved for a speed loader. The hammer and trigger were Smith oprions. My dad was a police officer and had a Combat Master piece with the same hammer and trigger.
Beautiful Smith & Wesson revolver.
Thank you for sharing
Nice shooting, and thanks for adding the close up pics of the grips. They are amazing. That is one firearm that stays in the family.
I Believe that the Hammer and Trigger look like the "Target Style" so If this came as a 3T's Revolver than they are Stock Items, Or they were added after the Fact. The Thumb Groove also necessitates easier Reloads with a speed loader!
I was in the Navy from 77-81. Back then, and a bit before the only active duty personnel that weren't aircrew to my knowledge that carried .38 S&W's were the people assigned to guard nuclear reactor shipments by rail.
Justin your dad and uncle had great taste. Damn son you can shoot.Hats off.
USAF issued us Model 15's. Ours were blue. A great many had target hammer, trigger, grips, white outline rear sight and red ramp front. Some of the Security Police gate guards who encountered VIP's and such, drew nickeled weapons. Ours, in the maintenance field, working on the ICBM fleet in Montana and Wyoming, got a bit more use. General Curtis E. Lemay, father of SAC, figured he'd rather have his Airmen put 38 slugs IN an opponent than send 45 ACP slugs whistling through the air. Ours were all marked on the left side of the frame with "U.S.A.F." and some others marked on the Backstrap. All were destroyed, or put into deep storage, and never offered to the troops. The only way they made it 'out' was as contraband, unlike the 1911s that can be purchased through the CMP. The trigger and action of your Uncle's model 15 is pretty much typical for the "Combat Masterpiece".
Same trigger and hammer as my 1976 model 29. Looks to be stainless and pinned, about 1980 production, great gun!
If it's a Model 15 it must be nickel. The Model 67 was stainless.
@@gcurrinder my stainless is a 66
@@gcurrinder your right, mine is a 357
Thanks for sharing!!! I love wheelguns...
My first duty revolver, working armored car, was a well used model 15. The trigger was the smoothest I have experienced, except for my brother’s Colt Python. I have looked for an nice old one, as they are long out of production, but without success. The still produced S&Ws don’t have the tapered barrel like the old ones have.
I was issued the Model 15 as a duty sidearm with two different police departments in the late 70s. Reliable, accurate and fun to shoot. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
Wow, what a great video after a long, rough work day. The pride you have in your family and in that gorgeous revolver really comes through. It was nice to watch you shoot it for the first time. The finish and grips complement each other so well, and the gun's proportions are absolutely perfect. Thanks!
Beautiful!!! Nice job on adjusting the sights on the fly too. You sir and your family should definitely have pride in that piece of art.
Much appreciated
The target hammer and trigger were standard options with S&W at that time along with the nickel finish. You could order exactly what you wanted.
A. VERY! VERY! Beautiful revolver. Love, the wood grips. 👌😘
Excelente revolver, su tío y su padre hicieron un gran trabajo con él. Yo tengo un modelo 15 snubnose y son fantásticos.
I've seen those hammers and triggers I've seen since -2 models. Awesome triggers both single and double action
Beautiful firearm ! I have a 15-3 blued target stocks. According to my research the model 15 was used by the military back in the day and several law enforcement agencies including LAPD in the Adam -12 show era.
Still a K frame so still advised care in what loads used.
Looks like target hammer and trigger combination that was available.
Have a Blessed Day
🇺🇸⚡️TCB⚡️
Awesome revolver! A true work of art! I recently found and bought a factory nickel plated S&W 586 no dash with a 6 inch barrel in perfect condition, but the fact that you inherited that gun with your dad's and uncle's history involved makes yours that much more special.
Really beautiful photography showing detail of gun
Fantastic revolver and a great family heirloom. Thanks for sharing.
Great looking gun and good shooting. I understand how special guns handed down from relatives are having some myself. But to have custom made (by your Dad) grips would be awesome. Correction GREAT shooting!
Absolutely beautiful. I'm impressed by the beautiful stock work. It's a great revolver. Glad you got the opportunity to use it.
Hi Justin, very nice gun! The thumb rest, the grippy hammer spur, the wide trigger and the fact it was sighted high, tell me that the revolver was probably used in a one-handed bullseye fashion. I play that kind of game, although I don't compete anymore and my revolvers are sighted for a 6 o'clock hold at 25 yards with 148 grs wad cutters (in the case of the .38 revolver). Either you uncle or your dad was into bullseye.
That's a good observation, and very likely spot on. They both shot in that style (left hand in the hip pocket).
@@JustinOpinionChannel I wouldn't be surprised if your uncle used to get some game in the field with this gun either, because he didn't blacken the front sight, you would do it, if you shot for score, but a bright ramp may be just what you need in the woods.
Gorgeous gun and sweet grips on it. Hang on to that one. Nothing like old smiths.
Sweet! Love the old Smith wheel guns. I live on the other side of Massachusetts but got a tour of the Springfield factory in the early 90s. I hate this state for chasing SW out of here (among other reasons 🙄). I wish SW well now that they’re in a REAL state
I carried a snub M15 in the Air Force. I have one currently getting re-blued by a mutual friend, Dale A.
I was fortunate to find an unfired Model 15-2 in perfect condition. Still unfired!
Wow, nice! Look for my video about the pre-Model 29 I obtained. Those old guns are works of art!
Awesome revolver
I find many older revolvers and 1911’s come zeroed for 6 O’clock holds
Slick little piece of kit there!
S&W revolvers are super classic to me.
Groups were high but very tight. Accurate gun
What a beauty nothing like adjustable sights great video
Great looking gun,,,,,I have the stainless version model 67, great action and shooter,,,,,enjoy it
Your sights were adjusted that way on purpose for 6 o'clock hold for target shooting. GREAT GUN!!
100%! Absolute tack driver!
At Rocky MTN show I saw S&W revolver with a grip safety on the back side.
Justin that is a beautiful revolver. Also, those stocks are a work of art.
And THAT is how you make a RUclips gun video!
Very nicely done, I liked the musical cutaways with the close-ups, the family history of both the gun and the grips and of course I think everyone enjoys a beautiful Smith & Wesson revolver like you have there.
Even anti-gunners would probably enjoy it's craftsmanship and artwork (if they only were brave enough to hold one like that in their hands).
New subscriber. Your demeanor, humor, and content make this a great channel.
Beautiful piece
Thank you sir for sharing that fine pistol with us today it is a beautiful work of art
That model is a great revolver !
The target hammer and trigger are 0.500. Compared to 0.350 hammer and trigger !
Myself I find the target hammer and trigger desirable features !
I own one model that has that !
That's a beautiful revolver.
You know, I usually skip a lot of the shooting in videos. I come to listen.
Thanks for sharing that beautiful Heirloom
The trigger and hammer was called "target hammer/trigger" I think on the model 27 or 14 it was standard on others optional.
Beautiful Piece
Beautiful gun, beautiful photo
Great video Justin. I'd like to see a future video from you on how to take such great photographs of handguns.
That's an interesting idea for a video. I might think about that.
Target trigget and hammer. Stock S&W parts but optional.
You’re still the man! Haven’t seen your videos in a while. To me, they are some of the best on YT. What did you do with the ducks?
I have a 15-3 with the exact same Hammer and Trigger...
Great video. Bring more revolvers to the show!
...Combat Masterpiece...
Beautiful gun.
Very, very, nice. 👍
Your paw was skilled. I can make anything from a blueprint and repair just about anything, but I have no artistic skill like that. To be honest I have never really tried anything like that either.
I would love to see the machine setup and jig that SW used to cut the knurl on that hammer and cylinder release. Before my time a lot of that was done on shapers, planers, and scraper machines. Very specialzed machines and jigs that were used for just that one purpose \ setup. Those are some damn fine knurls too.
Justin, what a beautiful pistol buddy. I was wondering if Sig Sauer put you back on their mailing list yet so they can send you those new AXG Legions to review like they do to the other channels?
That should Be made for export to Brazil, because of “”marca registrada “ writen in portuguese. Cheers from Rio de Janeiro!
Love your uancle head gun 38sp headgun nice headgun ❤
❤ your uacnle 38sp headgun mold 15 like what is
Wow really enjoyed this video, top notch ❤

Nice gun !!!!!!!!😊
That is a real nice guy!!!!!!!😅
Keep mine in the nightstand stoked with FBI load.
Talented family, nut don't fall far from the tree!
Kind of you to say, but I'm the dummy of the bunch!
They cal that a target hammer and trigger it’s worth more than the regular hammer and trigger
Bigswoll has some beautiful wheelies Justin if you haven’t stumbled onto him
Everything’s same on my 29-3 8 3/8s nickel
It's Justin opinion, but you're a good shot, my friend.
I have my good days and not so good days. :)
Damn, I'd like to learn to whittle wood
Stock dished out on left side for speed loader access?
Most likely.
😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎 Very, very, Kool.
Posession is 9\10ths! Thats all I'm saying!
