Always loved these , them rear light clusters did it for me for whatever reason. I had one in black for a short while, then kids happened and it went the way of many things at the time. I remember feeling posh because of my 16v badges
Thank you, Nicholas. The glacial rate at which the subscriber count is growing would suggest this will remain a niche channel, but it’s great that some people enjoy it. Stay safe and healthy.
Great video, thanks. I bought a1999 1.6 Sport a couple of weeks ago. aside from a couple of stone chips on the bonnet, it is in immaculate condition, with no scratches, dings or dents, although there is a slight lacquer peel on the roof. 44,000 genuine miles on the clock! bargain for £300. Great fun drive in the little pocket rocket and it handles like a Great White Shark chasing its prey.
Love the goat story! 😀 - I had a grey 1999 Mk1 Megane convertible for just over 7 years - paid £480 for it, and it was by far my favourite car (even features in one of my videos). Sadly, she was sent to scrap last week, but not before I'd found an early 2002 one in black a week ago. I had toyed with getting the glass top one, but I think this shape has far more character.
That Megane has come a long way from where it was fist registered on Teesside, my neck of the woods. They were popular around here. Contrary to popular belief the North-east isn't especially wet, but it is Baltic. I assume the Megane has a good heater. My mate had a 2 litre 16v coupe in yellow back in the day. He loved but had to sell because his wife was too terrified to drive it as it was very fast. They are now divorced.
A 2.0-litre 16v Coupe is on the ‘WeBuyAnyTat’ list for the fleet. Would love one. Yes, the heater is surprisingly good - although the Merc-style airscarf thingy would be nice. Good Teesside spot - topical video coming up soon...
Mike storey love the goat yarn. Have you ever had to change the indicator stalk on your megane. Or is it both stalks. I ask because I'm got a problem with my indicator. Thanks
The saloon was a great car and the cabriolet that you have is a Megane MK1.5. Its just missing some chrome around the front grills and it would look even better and classier.
Nice one! once saw one of these drive through Stockbridge and thought it could be you, but cannot be sure as I didn't get the plate. Nice Goats by the way! I personally prefer the coupe as I do with most convertibles, but that is a nice one
The Coupe is on the ‘WeBuyAnyTat’ list. Haven’t been to Stockbridge in it - but we were there in Elaine Beige last summer. She looked ‘great’ on the high street. Didn’t lower the tone at all.
I enjoyed reading about your Mégane when you wrote about it on the website. Glad to see it continues to serve you well. I'm still driving the Fiat Punto Cabrio, which I purchased back in 2016.
Lovely looking car. I prefer the earlier beaked frontage - but for a car that's now 2 decades old it's condition is a credit to how well built those early Megannes were -there is no rot on it whatsoever -compare that to an Slk Merc or a E46 Beemer where you'd be lucky to find a grot free front wing. I own an equally Yellow version of its fellow French nemesis the 306 which I adore and cost me peanuts to purchase. Interesting fact though...all the hood hydraulics are sourced through the same American concern Powerpacker and that's whether it's a Renault Pug Merc..Beemer etc . You can't really argue though with getting 4 years and countings worth of fun in the sun for 500 quid! One my favorites on your fleet.😊
Good points. The SLK reference is particularly relevant, because the Megane has a similar ‘look at me’ roof, but I’d suggest is a more prudent used purchase. Would love a 306 Cab, because I think they’re one of the best looking cars Peugeot has built. Up there with one of the best looking cars of the era.
had one exactly the same colour in Cyprus. loved it. only problem I had was the electric window regulator which the idiot mechanic I used buggered right up.
@@Petrolblog Hi man. Its incredible that you have answered me today, in exact time when I actualy sold my Miata and came back here to again double check this car looks. Didn't bought it, but I am still thinking. What do you say now after 3 years? I am afraid of roof mechanism and leaking too.
Sadly, the car has gone. The roof mechanism was fine, but the rear window cracked and was a pain to replace. But overall, it was totally reliable.@@dallmatiarazanj
Did those goats butt it? Should have been titled "I goat a convertible". Poor old Smokey. Bonus cat footage too. No I am not going down the Mrs. Slocombe path on this one. The Mégoat is ok car. Nothing remarkable I had a 1996 Mk1 hatch, which was certainly better than the some year Escort. I never liked the phase 2 gill.
Why did you buy a Renault Megane convertible? Take one look at it, and we know why! Hard to believe that car is 20 years old.... well, I guess the actual design would be even older. It looks very up to date. I can picture a whole row of them on the dealer's lot right today. But how many of them would be Claudi Schiffer Yellow?? "Functional elephant grey" interior - well, with a bod like that on the outside, who cares about inner beauty? Bit of Pontiac G6 to the front end; or perhaps the G6 is a bit of Renault Megane? Goats rescued from curry pot - check! Yellow Megane convertible rescued - check! And bonus footage for the subscribers - check!
Yes, there is a hint of the G6 in the front end. The comments about the goats would suggest that they require a video to themselves. They're going to require their own Instagram account at this rate.
@@Petrolblog And the crowning insult (?) will be when the goats get more Instagram followers than PetrolBlog itself! As for that front end, wow - *very* similar with the French handlebar mustache grille on top; below the bumper, not so much. Well, only so many ways to pet a cat* in the automotive design biz. ____________ *No cats were harmed in the making of this comment.
No way was the 306 cabriolet prettier it looks like it's made from lego and dash in them things was terrible. I would have the Megane over it anyway was the much better car. Looks are subjective do but that's my opinion.

Haha - back when the 16v badge meant something. Yeah, the rear lights are a neat touch. Other than that it’s a simple design, but it seems to work.
Hag one for fourteen years ,loved it . V210 LFV .
Wish I'd never got rid of it .
Grab another one while they’re still cheap!
Another great video. Enjoying watching these during these strange times. Looking forward to the next one.

I am not at all sure about the Megane but I'm here all day for the goats.
Honestly think a change to GoatBlog could be on the cards.

BTW for the rear window, there's a guy in Croydon who replaced my rear window in a couple of hours for £130.
Sorry to hear about your 99 car, but great that you've found a replacement. Will see if I can find your old car in one of your videos...
Ooh, that's good. Will do some Googling. Thank you.
i had one of these cars absolutely loved it looked so sleek roof up or down only sold it as i lost my job
Can’t believe that car is 20 years old. Looks up to date!
It's an underrated design. The 306 Cabrio is certainly (arguably?) prettier, but the Megane looks great, especially with the roof down.
I’ve owned a 1.6 since 2003. It’s a nail now but ultra reliable. I love it still 😊
Good man. I hope you have many more happy miles in it.

I've just been offered one which has been sat on a drive for 5 years. 45000 Miles! He just want shut. So very tempting.
Do it! And let us know how it goes.

Lovely car, no need for an explanation but grateful for the insight. 😊
Ain't nothing wrong with that 1.6 litre petrol Renault engine and they love to be revved. The parents had one in a Megane Classic. Great car.
Yep. Reasonably nippy and very economical.

Ben Hooper You won’t miss Elaine Beige.
Thanks for the look around.. thinking of getting one. Did not know that the roof mechanism was German interesting to know. Great names for the Goats 🤣
Do it - they're so cheap!
The Karmann factor is an interesting part of the Megane story.
Keep up the bonus goat footage please!
Tempted to give the goats a cameo on every video...
And chipped in, and volleyed in, it's there by David Platt!
The good old days!
Mine is a 2 litre, one owner ie me, still going strong.
Good to hear it. Would love a 2.0.
I've got 1.6 16v dynamique. 👍 140,000 miles. 2 owners. Me +1

The aerial should go all the way down.
Because its beautiful.
Yup.
Thinking to buy the exact one. Now I'm owning Miata 2001 year, but its too small for my 2 dogs and a wife. What do you think now after 3 years?

Hey mate tell me does the roof leaks when it rains? Cause i want to buy renault like this
The roof itself doesn't leak. We've had to patch up the rear window, but that's about to be replaced. It's a quality hood!
@@Petrolblog ohh thats great. can you tell me if this car is reliable?
I think you looked up the wrong rear window kit. They are around 120€ and the window is fittet with a zipper and a clip, no stitching needed
Thanks - that's good to hear. Something to do over the winter.
I think the Shatchback or saloon megane looks better than the hatchback megane of that era
Agreed.
Bying one tomorrow 6800mils on it

How's life with the new toy?

No, the goats just licked it. That said, I did catch one of them STANDING on the Clio’s bonnet. Thankfully before it was resprayed.
No mention of the cat ? :(
To be fair, the cat made its intentions clear by making a beeline for under the car. Didn’t want to be part of this nonsense.
Megane Cabrio in yellow did appear in polish comedy Kiler (one L in the word).
Ooh.

The more time I spend with the Mégane, the more I tend to agree with you. In profile, with the roof down, it looks fab.
I want to cruise in this car near Dalmatian coast with a cute girl who loves me
The dream!
Goats should not be curried. Fact.
Damn right. 🐐👍
