- In this sock yarn review, I will tell you all about my experience knitting with Amble by The Fibre Co. and let you know whether this sock yarn deserves a place in your stash!
Sock yarns are some of my favorites! I love to add a new-to-me sock yarn to my stash, and I was so excited to finally work with Amble by The Fibre Co. In this video, I share my thoughts on the yarn and show off some footage of my second pair of Soxploration Socks by @EarthtonesgirlPodcast.

😁💜🧶 you’re so welcome Caleb! I told my folks about your channel and I’m so glad they came over to support you. I truly enjoyed watching your videos.
I’m a very beginner knitter. I’m looking forward to making socks when I get more practice. 😁 I will be definitely watching your videos to help with that. I’ve already started a playlist of some of your videos. 🧶
Hello. I don't knit but I do crochet and I just wanted to say again that I loved your video on five things that new Knitters should know. Everything that you said and that video I think that even crocheters could relate to. I love how you explain things and you are starting to make me want to have the desire to learn to knit. So I'll just keep watching you and enjoying your videos
Thank you so much! I appreciate that and I hope you do learn to knit! It's so fun to be able to switch back and forth. I find knitting so relaxing :-)
Genuinely can't say enough good things about The Fibre Co. I'm making my Alpenglow sweater with Amble now & am loving my life. The fabric is so soft! And I'm working on a US 5 needle, so I love the huge range of gauge you can get with Amble too. Socks are next on my list!
Another informative, inspiring, and entertaining video. Thank you Caleb!
I appreciate that! Thank YOU!
I bought a skein of this yarn to knit my hubs a musselburgh it was so soft and wonderful I went back to the store and picked up a few more colors! I love it! I agree it would make great sweater yarn :)
Love your review and this yarn is very appealing. Love to knit socks.
Very cool Crystal from Bag-o-Day shouted you out on her community page 😄. I am already subscribed and love all the info you provide. Nice review and I love Denise. Have a great week!
Thanks for coming to join me over here! It was so nice of Crystal to do that! I still can't believe it :-)
Thank you for the review! I love those socks! I may have to try this yarn - socks have become my new favorite item to knit.
I've knitted a pair of socks with this and I found that it does grow. It doesn't have much recovery so, while I agree that it feels lovely, I think it would be best for a shawl (vs socks or sweater). It also def has a feel to it that's "superwash" (even if the process is done ecologically). I'll likely use it again but I'll make the sock using fewer stitches (on the US 1.5) cuz knitting this on a US1 would be tricky given that, IMO, it's really more of a sport-weight than fingering. It comes in great colours, I do agree.
Oh intersting! It grew while wearing it more or while you blocked it? I knit the number of stitches that I use for a 1.5 needle with a typical sock yarn and found the sock fits me perfectly. With a US 1 I would knit a 72 stitch sock but for a 1.5 (and for this sock), will knit a 64 or 68 stitch sock. Thank you for sharing your experience!
@@DrowninginYarn Grows while wearing, unfortunately. To clarify - I started off making the ribbing as if the sock was going to be for my husband (so 64st down to 60 aft cuff). But he won't hand wash socks and I'm not handwashing for anyone other than me! :-) So, as I was concerned they'd felt after first machine wash/dry, I kept them for myself. Given the gauge of the yarn - and IMO it really is sport compared with all of my other sock yarns - I should have done 60 st down to 56 st for my foot. I have long feet but small ankles and calves. What's too bad is that, as the socks stretch while being worn, there is NO recovery (in my experience). So next time I use this yarn, I'll have to fix the issue with stitch count. Oh - and I just re-reviewed my Rav page and I knit the sock, after the cuff, on US 1 not 1.5... It is compelling yarn IMO, from the perspective that it's very squishy and thicker than average. So I think it would make a great winter sock for guys. If I can refine the sizing so that they don't stretch out while wearing, I'll likely use this yarn for socks semi-regularly.
I actually just finished her "no fear" socks! I really enjoy your videos. Thanks.
Wonderful! Denise is so awesome! and thank you 💚
Those socks look cozy my son would love them, now I want to try knit socks!
Thank you! And you totally should! They're so fun to knit!
I've just been binging your videos and this popped up!!
Hahaha... good timing! Thanks for watching my videos :-)
@@DrowninginYarn I'm really enjoying them!! Thank you!
Now I'm dying to buy some Amble!!!! Great video.
Thank you, Tom! I think you would really love it!
Thanks for the Amble talk. I ordered some from Fibre Co and it has been shipped. Nice to know I made a good choice.
Are you making socks with it?
Congrats, Caleb, on breaking through the 10K subbie mark. Wow! 👏👏👏💐🤗You are inspiring. Yep, I’m on the sock-knitting train right now and don’t plan on getting off anytime soon. Your socks are a beauty and thanks for an absolutely honest review of the yarn. Stay happy, stay safe and as always “hi Brian!” 😉
Thank you so much, Misty! I appreciate how supportive you have been all along. It means the world! I will for sure tell Brian you said hello :-)
Thanks so much for sharing the shadow wrap heel! I watched the tutorial by Earthtones girl and then tried it on a pair of shorty socks. It is by far my favorite heel ever, so easy and no holes!
the main thing that drew me to amble was the fact that it uses recycled nylon! I try to avoid plastic as much as possible in my crafts so this is a great option. I'm currently knitting a pair of socks in the eden valley colourway and loving it so far!
It does?! I don't know how I overlooked that fact. Thanks for letting me know :-)
Loved this review, I am totally in a sock knitting mood right now. But you live within walking distance of two LYS?! That’s amazing!
it’s very bad for my bank account though. haha.
I love this yarn too! I knitted a pair of socks with it earlier in the year and found it such a pleasure to work with. Love the handle - I love that it has that woollier, loftier feel but still soft. The fibre company have my favourite bases. I’ve a few skeins of amble stashed now, looking forward to knitting more with it!
Great review, I will look for this yarn on my next spree! I loved the socks, they look very cozy, even with the sandals!
2021 must be the year of sock marking 🙂. I am on that same train.
Congratulations Caleb on 10K subscribers!!! I appreciate this review. Your review with descriptions of how it knits up and blocks etc in comparison to other sock yarns you have used (plus can we just say WOW to those macros??) actually differentiates it from other "squishy" and "cozy" yarns. The fiber content seems like it would make a lovely drapey sweater especially if knit up at a looser gauge. Thanks for sharing and congrats again! ~Stephanie
Thank you so much! and I appreciate you for appreciating those macros! haha. I love to see the structure of the yarn!
I heard about Amble on the Grocery Girls podcast the other day. Tracie really loved it. Thank you for your review. I’ll definitely be trying out the yarn along with the pattern!
Thank you for this video. I've been kni6off and on for about 2 years and now I'm obsessed. I've been using a sock pattern from a book and not super happy with it, so your suggestion is awesome. The last sock was made with Japanese wool. I hated it!!! Made the experience a chore. Will definitely try Amble in my next sock adventure and may try a light sweater. 💘
Nice socks. I haven’t knit socks yet, but I may have to give it a try.
Thank you for such an honest review! I love learning about new yarns (new to me anyways) I’ve been knitting for about half my life, so about 20 years, and I’ve just finished my first sock ever!! I’m on the home stretch on the second. I think I’m addicted now! I’m glad I stumbled across your channel 🌸🌸
You are welcome! And thank you for watching! I'm so glad you are enjoying knitting your first socks... they are such a great little project :-)
Thanks Caleb. I had never heard of Fibre Co, so this was super informative. Just getting into sock knitting, so will definitely grab a copy of this pattern to try a new heel technique.
Caleb, your filming of this Podcast on reviewing the yarn and sock is unbelievable! You went above and beyond filming this great segment. The info boxes are much appreciated and the close ups of the yarn and project are fabulous. Please continue with these reviews and your filming expertise. I watch your Podcasts and just love them. I, too, am on the sock train and I will definately try out this yarn.
thank you so much! I’m glad you like it!!!
Thank you for doing this review. I’ve been so curious about this yarn but didn’t want to get any without knowing more (I have to order it online since my LYS doesn’t have it so I was hesitant to take the chance). I enjoy knitting socks so that is what I’ll do with it.
You're welcome! I hope you enjoy knitting with it!
Gréât timing - I just got some Amble yarn! I also love that it is made using recycled nylon.
oh awesome! I totally overlooked that when I was reading the fiber content.
Congrats 🎉🎉 on 10K...
Haven't tried socks want to but nervous 😬..But gonna try...
thank you so much!!! you should definitely give it a try! socks are so fun and not too difficult to work!
Sounds yummy. I will have to check this your out (on-line, no LYS). I love alive knitting socks for my family!
Shadow wrap heel sounds intriguing
I have recently returned to knitting and am in the middle of my first sock ever! I want to explore all the yarn options for socks so really appreciate your review and knowledge about sock yarn and what to expect from a good sock yarn. Very helpful x
How fun! I hope you love knitting the socks and wearing them too :-)
Oh my laundry... Walking distance from 2 Lys color me green💚 here. I would not have any self control especially with this review
I haven't made any so is yet. I think I need more experience with knitting before I tackle socks. Your socks looks Great!
Thank you so much! You should go ahead and try a pair, if it's something you're interested in. I promise they aren't nearly as difficult as you may think :-)
I have gotten enthusiastic about mohair hats and it is summer. I found affordable mohair on Ebay and love the style of hats I am making.
I'm new to knitting and joined a local monthly subscription for projects. This month just happened to be short summer socks. Great video better timing for me.
How fun!!! Did it come with a pattern and yarn?
Yes to both.
greta review! coincidentally, i am actually working on a sock with amble rn! i was also wondering what your favorite lys is? i will be traveling to chicago this summer and am looking for recommendations.
Oh awesome! How are you enjoying working with Amble? I recommend checking out Knit 1, Sister Arts and Nina! They are all great. And Firefly is also awesome... it just has a much smaller selection because they specialize only in organic yarns.
I have downloaded Denise’s Soxploration pattern and the Grocery Girls’ Tracy talked about how much she loved Amble yarn too. My LYS closed during COVID, so I may need to make a road trip to a neighboring community to check out the yarn from the Fibre Company! 😎👍
I’m sold 😜
Those socks are lovely. My only problems would cost and availability. Hopefully, the cost will become lower at some point and more available to people like me because I sure make socks and we all sure wear them! I am really interested in Earthtones/ Denise's short row sock pattern.
What sock yarns do you enjoy using? I recently picked up some Paton's Kroy with a coupon at Michael's and have a few skeins of Knitpicks Stroll, but I haven't used either yet.
@@DrowninginYarn I caught a yarn shop going out of business last year and made the two hour drive. I have some berrivo Nebula, Guilds, Leading men Fiber arts, Mirasol Ch'ichi, Kroy. I have some very good stuff. And before I run out, I hope to find more. But at 71...I will see what or who runs out first. 😆
Had a quick question I was wondering about holding yarn together to set certain weights like if I hold to sock yarns together do I get do weight or sport 🤔 There are so many colorful sock yarns😊
I probably will try this yarn….wonderful review. I have a question for you and for your followers. After spending time and money on making socks, what shoes do you mostly wear so you can show them off. Always burying your beautiful hand knit sock in shoes or boots, doesn’t make sense to me. I know Birkenstock’s is probably the most popular, but are they any other options that are stylish and popular…any suggestions?
I follow The Fibre Co and love how they process this yarn. I am ordering some soon. Also I guess I need to order a new needle like you did. I don’t own a 1.5 yet. Do you think it is between a 1 or 2 weight? Trying to figure out how I will knit them since I am a bit new. I by accident orders a 2 weight yarn to knit myself some socks with my 64 stitches on 1.25 needles which were my 3rd pair and when I tried them on midway thru could tell they were too big so tried on my hubby and they fit him perfect. I told him I would knit him a pair after I knit a few pairs cause I was a new sock knitter but he got some sooner than I thought. Thanks love your videos
So, this is definitely between a 1 and a 2, so you'll want to swatch even if you know your stitch count with a 1 (aka fingering weight). It's great that you were able to fit those socks on your husband! If you watch my sock expert tips video, Marce (aka Hey Brownberry) gives a tip on fitting a toe up sock by using the toe as your swatch :-)

I am so jealous i just can't get to the socks!!
Today this yarn was suggested to me at my local yarn store, I wanted to knit my second pair of socks(: the cost altogether 80aud? $40 a sock and I'm a bit conflicted haha do people usually pay this much to knit a pair of socks?
I want to make clog socks!
what are clog socks? are they like shorties?
Hi Caleb. I am planning on buying some Amble ASAP! Wondering if you cast on your usual number of stitches? Also, did you hand wash or machine wash these? Thanks!
Hi there: I've used this yarn and I have not put it in the washer and dryer. The ballband suggests handwashing, if I remember correctly. But I'd love to know if they can be put in the dryer cuz mine are too large! Mind you, I'm disinclined to try it for myself in the event that they felt.
I cast on the number that I would cast on for a US 1.5 with a typical sock yarn. For this sock, I think that was 64 stitches whereas I generally do 72 when working with a US 1 on your average sock yarn. Even with my superwash sock yarns, I handwash them. I have been thinking about experimenting with washing my socks in the machine just to see what happens, but I haven't done that yet.
@@DrowninginYarn Thank you! Exactly what I wanted to know. Just FYI, I have put my socks in a delicates laundry bag and washed them on cold/gentle or wool setting and then I lay them flat to air dry. Works well for me!
Crystal at Bag-O-Day Crochet is looking for someone to make her a pair of socks... she can be found on You Tube, and the way your socks look, they are simply looking IMPECKABLE and I know she would LOVE to have you make hers for her.... you can let her know who sent you!! HOPE you find the time to check out her video where she is asking for help from someone to (help her) make her Rainbow Socks!!! THANKS. ruclips.net/video/gweUhEsbsgA/видео.html is where you will find the video at around 23:39 spot.....
Please make sure if you are using merino wool that it is mulesing free. This is a position that all of us who knit should take as mulesing is a cruel practice that needs to be abandoned.
Ok, I did check and see that the merino wool that they use is mulesing free.
You owe us all an apology for wearing socks and sandals. lol ;^) j/k
Hahahah
