So much great music by Steve over the course of decades, from Traffic to solo. I remember clips of this awesome song being featured in Michelob mini-story commercials of the day!
High above the heat of a summer New York street An out of work musician plays a solo saxophone He's a preacher and a teacher And he stands up all alone Stranded in the dark of a vision in the park A poet in his madness tries to find another line And he's losing and he's using And he says he's doing fine And they look from such a height That somehow it's all right They're talking back to the night It's all that they can do Talking back to the night It's how they make it through If you listen you can hear them Their voices draw you near them They're talking back to the night for you Something seems to take every dime the man can make His dream is getting smaller and he wonders where to turn And he's trying hard to make it And he's trying not to burn Woman never minds, pulls the shade and draws the blinds She takes him in the darkness where the loneliest can feed She gives him all she has to And it's no more than he needs Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Steve Winwood / Will Jennings

My favorite version.Thank you Davor Dav
Bradley Green thank you for your ears ;)
And I thought I was the only one who thinks this version's better than the original.
Very good.
Never knew this was used on an ad. Really like this. Always liked him anyway.Sadly,no one sounds like this now..
I agree with Steve..The World has sadly gone "Mental"...Its Amazing "What the Night can do.."
High above the heat of a summer New York street
An out of work musician plays a solo saxophone
He's a preacher and a teacher
And he stands up all alone
Stranded in the dark of a vision in the park
A poet in his madness tries to find another line
And he's losing and he's using
And he says he's doing fine
And they look from such a height
That somehow it's all right
They're talking back to the night
It's all that they can do
Talking back to the night
It's how they make it through
If you listen you can hear them
Their voices draw you near them
They're talking back to the night for you
Something seems to take every dime the man can make
His dream is getting smaller and he wonders where to turn
And he's trying hard to make it
And he's trying not to burn
Woman never minds, pulls the shade and draws the blinds
She takes him in the darkness where the loneliest can feed
She gives him all she has to
And it's no more than he needs

first time really listening to this track’s lyrics. dark but delicious🥹 makes me love it even more since ‘87-88.
❤❤❤
Yeah you know what the night belongs to Michelob damn it's been a long time
Antena Hum Fm!!!!!
Joe Cocker imho has remade this song better than the original. A rare occasion where musicians take a song and make it better.
The Night Belongs To MICHELOB.
Yeah Michelob used his song a commercial back in ‘87 or ‘88.
The original is somewhat boring compared to this version.
