  • We've used two different Swivelwheel trailers in our time on the road. We started with a small one and eventually upgraded to a larger, more sturdy trailer.
    For the most part, they are trouble-free. We did have a bearing burn up after we purchased the current one used, but that's because we didn't do the bearing maintenance.
    Check out the video here: • The Swivel Wheel Fiasco
    We use the trailer for our generators, bikes, grill, workout equipment, and an outdoor firepit. It's a really convenient place to keep all the outdoor stuff you may need when traveling full time - especially if you don't have a toy hauler.
    It's not without its drawbacks - the trailer adds an extra 5 feet or so to the overall length, and it makes backing into a space a little more difficult, as you have to adjust for it. It also causes issues if the ground is unlevel - the wheel on it will flip under the trailer, and the rear of the trailer will dip to the ground if it's really uneven.
    We started out with this one, with the dual receiver hitch: www.cruiserlift...
    Our current trailer is: www.cruiserlift...
    Ours now has a different wheel assembly on it, as a result of burning the bearings up shortly after purchasing it used. The wheel assembly we're using is: axlesandmoreby...

      The video is about the trailer itself. Thank you for your insightful comment. It's a swivel wheel trailer - if you want to see the actual wheel, you can go to the website to check it out.

    I see the swivel wheel is attached to a cedar creek trailer. Are you still satisfied we are thinking about a trailer for a golf cart. Was the hitch welded to the rear frame rails and where did you pick power for the wiring harness

    • @TrippinWithTheSmiths
      @TrippinWithTheSmiths  3 года назад

      It was attached to our old trailer. If I didn't have a toy hauler now, we'd still be using it. We had one disaster with it, but it was self inflicted - didn't repack bearings after buying the larger version. All in all, it was worth it. It was a little hassle here and there with the extra length, but the ability to carry our outdoor stuff, or a golf cart, is well worth it.
      This was caused by not repacking bearings, and was the only issue we had with two different swivel wheels and around 40k miles. Only thing we did was replace some tires, other than this:

    I just got the SW46. My only issue is the speed. They recommend 65 mph. I cant imagine anyone going down the highway for hundreds of miles going only 65mph. Did you go over and if you did, what was the outcome?

    • @TrippinWithTheSmiths
      @TrippinWithTheSmiths  3 года назад +1

      We ran at 65 most of the time. Most trailer tiress aren't rated for any more.... that's your limiting factor. If you find higher speed rated tiress for it, you should be done. I found some that were rated to 72-75 mph for a buffer. Don't remember the brand tho.

      @@JARVISdotEXE If you have it attached to the RV, you can just use a jack on the rear to get it in the air. If it's not attached (and unloaded), just flip it on it's side. Pretty easy, either way.

  • @dondorfman3951
    @dondorfman3951 Год назад +1

    PITA is right. Had one and sold it. Too much distance from the rear trailer axle and the rear of the trailer for a giant swing on turns. Easy to hit things in tight quarters. The short wheelbase and short hitch caused a lot of trailer movement, and the motorcycle broke straps from extreme angles. Torsion suspension is not compliant enough and is a rough ride for cargo. Overall not happy, and the Idaho hauler looks better.

    • @TrippinWithTheSmiths
      @TrippinWithTheSmiths  2 года назад

      Never had a problem with the law. It's considered a extension of the trailer or truck that is attached to, so the registration of that vehicle is all that's needed.

    How do you like the trailer with the axlesbyjoellc swivel assy? I am looking at his setup to build my own trailer.

    • @TrippinWithTheSmiths
      @TrippinWithTheSmiths  4 года назад

      We don't have the trailer any more, but we liked the new axle. It was pretty heavy duty - - probably capable of more than it's rated for, and the extra tire/spindle offered some peace of mind. Never had any issue with it, and it did not flutter/wobble as some suggest it will. One recommendation - when you mount it, ensure it gives you the right trailer height, both when it's trailing going forward, and when it's flipped and you're backing up. Ours was a little low backing up at times.

    • @TrippinWithTheSmiths

    What is the top rated speed for that small wheel, or is that wheel always touching the ground?

    • @TrippinWithTheSmiths
      @TrippinWithTheSmiths  5 лет назад

      The wheel is always on the ground. The tires are rated for 65 MPH, which is about the most I do with the trailer. I occasionally will run 70, but that's rare and usually just for passing. I check the hubs pretty regularly for temperatures, and they are pretty consistent - usually about 10 degrees lower than the big trailer hubs.

    • @TrippinWithTheSmiths

      It would not work well for a deck - when it's not connected to a vehicle, it tips over really easily - almost like that's it's mission in life. By the time you got it braced and safe, you could build a deck from scratch.

    • @TrippinWithTheSmiths
      @TrippinWithTheSmiths  5 лет назад +2

      It was a pain in the butt when that happened...but it was our fault. We bought that trailer used, and didn't check or re-pack the bearings, and that's what caused the issue. Once we got it fixed, we put about 15k miles on it with no issues. If you don't have a toy hauler fifth wheel, I think it's a great option to carry other stuff. It does add a little bit more work, but at the the end of the day, we think it's worth it.
