i'm guessing he put the intake air hose into the pump where the impeller chops the air into smaller bubbles instead of putting the air hose into the water outlet just before the tee. you can see the air hose in a few shots going to the pump.

Venturi setup with 2 outlets and valve to control amount of air thats entered into the stream. Very nice...

I wonder about the debit, maybe reduced for compensating the air provided by the water pump?
