The green glowstick in the blender without microwave looked like kryptonite. The blue ones looked like a jedi fight. The orange ones looked like fire. The multi-colored looked so cool! With the hot water, amazing! The yellow ones were so bright! All of them turned very bright. Why did this happen? Thanks. Keep up the amazing videos TKOR!
The glowing is caused by a chemical reaction. And for every, I think it was, 15 degrees Kelvin warmer the reaction speed doubles. So heat it up 30 degrees and you get four times as much light.
The very first glowstick looked like the aftermath of a slaughtered Predator.

i chewed on one of these when i was 4 at a drive in movie theater and it literally exlpoded in my mouth and all over theback of the car it was the worst tasting thing ever
I was trying to crack all of it to get it as bright as possible, which was a terrible mistake, and it popped at the worst moment possible and a bit of it poured into my mouth

Hey guys, love your videos! I had a suggestion. I’m a Environmental Lab Analyst. We test all sorts of industry run off for a variety of things. Part of my test involves removing the chlorine from samples. We do this first by checking them for chlorine using a pre packaged DPD reagent, then (if positive by indication of turning pink) by a potassium iodide method to observe the amount of chlorine. A sodium sulfite normality is used to remove the chlorine. Typically the color change observed is clear to yellow to blue to clear again. I had a sample recently that is an effluent from a place that makes capsules for pills and such. It did a lot of random color changes within the above process. We observed it going from purple to blue to green to pale blue to purple and then changed to a strange gray when pH adjusted. This is one of my favorite parts of my primary tests. Since I don’t really get to test things like this outside of my job, I was wondering, with all of the things you guys test, if perhaps you’d do a series of testing like this on random soluble items. If you’d like the simplified method of the above, I’m happy to assist! Happy Experimenting!

Try adding baking soda and vinegar and glow stick fluid... Soda always reacts with vinegar not sure what it will do to glow sticks.
The flouro-luminescent dyes are much smaller atomically than water, and can easily get stuck into the plastic itself. Then there’s they chemical TCPO which is the activating substance that reacts with the dyes to temporarily form light in the visible spectrum. Otherwise those dyes aren’t visible unless hit with a black light. But yes both have smaller particles than water which is why it can be impregnated into plastic. Glass will not have this problem :)
