Hi...Thanks Ian, for documenting and having a lot of respect and kindness towards Mr McCoy. McCoy boards, through you Ian, have drawn myself closer to these "Beautiful boards". Through listening, I'm learning how a surfboard should handle and specs!!!
Good health to you Ian. Thanks for persevering Mr McCoy...Geoff!

Its a shame he is not a believer in concaves, His Lazor Zap would have held in much better even with a wider tail but with either a double or single concave. His theory about foil back and rail theory is spot on. Bob Simmons was the first to propose the wide tail area which maximizes planing surface aft. I shaped a modern version of the Lazor Zap with wide point 2 inches back from center, double concaves, very low tail rocker, very wide tail 18in, and needle nose and it holds like crazy. no slipping at all. Its a quad with fins further back than normal.

Good stuff Ian. I heard somebody is making a docco. on Geoff...is it you? Someone needs to! I remember Geoff saying years ago that soon boards were going to get wider and thicker. Sure enough a year or so later Slater appears with his short fat boards. Same as what Cheyne did, only where Cheyne & Geoff copped heaps...Slater is praised. Geoff is a genius in my opinion. He sure helped me catch a lot more waves.

Had one of his boards back in the late 70s. It was a cut above then. It was used by Mark Richards to shoot a commercial when he borrowed it in the Bell's carpark when they only had 1 board for 2 guys to run out of the surf with ! It was a buzz for me and my mate ( traveling from Perth) to see Mark in person up close !😎👍

Now here is a man with so much experience and knowledge and I really enjoyed the info I went to a surf factory here in Perth and loved the look of the McCoy nugget and I ended up purchasing a 6'8' clear matt finish, can't wait to get her in the water ..🌊🏄🏼🎓
