    I've got the LS321, which is the more blocky looking aluminum model. Very good value option that gets you in the game for 800ish bucks. But it doesn't compete against my Dbal D2 (1600 bucks) in illumination. However, I also have the Holosun LS117IR. It's just a standalone IR laser (NO slaved visible laser with it), and it's coupled with a BE Meyers Kiji IR illuminator. So for around 1000, you can get a solid laser module and arguably the best unrestricted IR illuminator on the civilian market today that absolutely does compete with my more expensive Dbal. As mentioned, nothing is cheap in the NVG game, but you can get some very good/ usable gear and not take out a 2nd mortgage for it.

      This is why I've been suggesting the CTF-2 to people. It doesn't get you the flexibility in switchology that your setup has, but it's one purchase and one thing to mount instead of 2+. I'm just stoked for the Eotech OGL. Gonna wait for that to replace my LS321.

      @Squirreltakular Yes! I want one pretty bad to try out. They can't seem to keep with the demand, and they're just never in stock. So I'm still impatiently waiting and checking on availability lol.

    I honestly believe that the LE117IR and the B.E. MEYERS KIJI paired is probably one of the best duo's I have seen in the IR game in terms of bang for your buck un-restricted options. Highly recommend.

      Its not a bad choice. I just got into night vision as well and I have couple of IR lasers and lights. They are all pretty much the same up to about 75-100 yards. If you arent shooting past that having the light, IR laser and IR illuminator is so useful. Even the 300 lumen would work perfectly for short range. To piggy back on Aaron, the lasers are fine, the IR illuminators are always the problem but if you arent shooting to distance you're good.

  • @fog8969
    @fog8969 Год назад +3

    Great info, thanks. If they upgrade the white light to something that's not pretty much useless, might buy then. But for now I don't need the extra cost and weight of an essentially useless part in an otherwise useful tool. Get kind of tired of buying equipment that has to be modified or have to trade out parts, like buy this good rifle then immediately replace trigger with better replace stock and sling with Magpul, or buy this pistol then pay for aftermarket sights and mags.

    I found this video so hard to focus on as soon as you said "Night vision prices in general have started coming down because they're becoming more popular, the venerable PVS 14 running a monocular, it's been around for 20 plus years at this point, and you can find a really good high quality one for a reasonable price, basically the price of a very nice AR rifle." How much? __________. It was at this point where my mind drifted. I was in la la land, daydreaming about why you didn't just throw a price out after that lead up. I live in New York City. I can't ever put an AR rifle in my apartment closet. I could not even unload a gun case from the trunk of my car and walk into my apartment building, so I have no idea how much "prices coming down". Anytime I look for a filmless WP PVS 14, I see thirty five and up. Should I be looking for a deal at twenty five hundred? Total daydream. I'll check out the Holosun some other time.

The U.S. Nightvision offering (the name escapes me right now) is a vcel based laser illuminator that is slightly more but seems to be a very viable option and then the BE Myers MAWL C 1 is gonna be the class of the field but costs as much as 3 D2’s or 2 of the U.S. Nightvision offerings. How are you coming to your conclusion on better value? A ctf2 is $700, a kiji is $800 and the white light head is $150. That is in the D2 realm even with adding a white light with the D2. Just curious what your thought process is. Thanks

      @@carlh4350 The BE Meyers KIJI is a VCSEL laser based IR Illuminator, not LED. The illumination is much more uniform with less artifacts and more powerful with better photonic barrier penetration.
      Whole different quality of IR illuminator. And if you want to cheap out you can just get a Surefire Scout IR LED head with the CTF and you're still more cost effective overall than most options on the market dollar for dollar.
      The only thing that can really upset the balance right now is the Eotech OGL which is supposed to bring cutting edge VCSEL IR Illumination in a normal form factor at just under 2 grand. This is going to undercut every next gen MFAL using VSCEL tech with the exception of the KIJI.

    Night vision is not cost prohibitive. People aren't shooting at night most of the time and that's why they don't buy night vision.

      A good PVS-14, mount, and helmet will set you back $5k. Add another $1-2k for a LAM or twice that for a MAWL. That's prohibitive for many people, especially younger people.

    I’m not sure that this is the governments reasoning, but as a pilot, I can tell you getting “lasered“ from someone on the ground, specifically during landing, is a fairly prevalent problem. Even lower grade lasers hitting our windscreen is extremely debilitating and harmful. Again, I don’t know that that’s their reasoning, but I could imagine they had that in mind , given such lasers are used by military personnel on the ground to coordinate with aircraft.
