Uhh...it is not universal. Not everyone accepts Christ, admits the sins of their ways, and wants to be baptized to cleanse themselves of said sins. So minus the lyrics, you're right.
When an art is put out, sure there might be an audience it targets. In this song, it's Christians and all god believers. But it can also be a symbol for many non believers who couldn't find a way to of their troubled life. "Take me to your river" might mean the path to God for God believers who listen to this. But for the average non believer, it may mean changing their path within and start a healthy path of conscious searching for peace. In the end, all humans search for peace in life and after. Athiests find peace in no religion, Christians plus other God believing religions find peace in believing in a afterlife with Jesus. Buddhists find peace in believing an idyllic afterlife. Peace is the answer to a none-unrest life. This song depicts that. Also because of it's soulful Melody that easily connects to many of us.

Begin to seek. You will start to notice that there are resources available all around to grow in grace and truth and knowledge of Jesus. You don't have to go it alone because there are many spiritually-mature, loving Christians around to talk to and grow with, whether its friends at work, church, online, or anywhere. You may find that you have more and more of a desire know God and believe in Jesus as you become more and more convicted of your sin, and the amazing grace and love He offers. "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved..." (Acts 16:31). “But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Romans 10:8-10). There are many other verses that attest to this. Trust and follow. Then you will know true love to share with others in all aspects of life, and start to understand why Jesus says, "I came that they may have life and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). All humans need to constantly be examining ourselves to learn why Jesus says at one point: "...he who is forgiven little, loves little” (Luke 7:47). Again, I hope this provides encouragement to build up, and not tear down. The transforming power is there, because I would not have desired or loved enough to send a message like this two years ago. This all may seem a bit overwhelming, but the Word of God in the Bible will lead to all true wisdom (Matthew 7:7, 1 Corinthians 1:24, James 1:5). Peace be with you. Take care, and God bless, friend! Christ is inside you! The Spirit will empower you. I don't know what you've done, but if you've repented from your ways and want to live a life to God, then go to church. God's Word tell us that is best for us (not trying to be legalistic, but community is really important). Maybe you will be persecuted, but all of the disciples and prophets were. Find a church to make your home and just love others and serve others, that's what we are called to do. And do not fear man, for God's love is the only thing we can be assured of in this life.
