  • Sadly the "Big 3" brand new passenger jets that were on static display at Farnborough Airshow 2024 earlier in the week, had all left by the Thursday evening, 25 July. Here are the 3 big jets:
First off; Air India Airbus A350-900 VT-JRH. Delivered to Air India new on 16 April, and in the new Air India livery, we see the aircraft first on static display (filmed Monday 22nd July) and then lined up on Runway 24, ready for departure on Wednesday evening, 24th July, positioning to London Gatwick as flight AI1148, before departing Gatwick later that evening for Delhi.
Next up we see brand new Virgin A330-900, G-VRSB, (first flight only on 14th June this year) on static display on Monday 22nd July and then being towed and pushed back along the length of Runway 24, on Thursday evening, 25th July, ready to depart to Heathrow as flight VS 841P. Listen to the lovely bass sound of the Rolls Royce power plant as both are spooled up on the Runway - love it!
During airshow week, aircraft landing at Farnborough had to rely on visual approach rather than the normal ILS. On Thursday evening, cloud cover was extremely low due to persistent rain and continually below minimums for visual approaches for landing aircraft. After the Virgin aircraft departs and the final big jet, Qatar Boeing 787-9 A7-BHQ is lined up for tow back along the runway, we hear a Boeing 737 approach but execute a missed approach (for the 4th time). This aircraft diverted to London Stansted after this final attempt at landing. Details on the film.
So last up is the Qatari 787-9 A7-BHQ which I caught landing prior to the airshow (see separate film on this channel) and which was on static display during the earlier part of airshow week. This aircraft departed in fading light at 08.30 p.m. BST, Thursday evening, heading for Doha as flight callsign 3293. This aircraft is also brand new, first flight being only 22nd June this year.
So that's the end of Airshow 2024 - hope you've enjoyed this snapshot of Airshow films on my channel - or better still hope you got the chance to see the sights and hear the amazing sounds for yourself! Best wishes Steve

The reason why some of the planes left early is that they will be used for the next day flights so they will have to leave early for the airline to make sure that they are ready in advance for those flights regardless of them being on display for the air show the airlines will have only set aside planes but once they are needed for the next flights the airlines will fly the planes when they need them regardless of the air show. Just good to see them for a short time on display before they are flying passengers it’s what the planes are meant for

What I think 🤔 Boeing should have brought to the show is one of the new 777S for the airlines to see exactly what they are buying and for those airlines who haven’t placed orders for it because they are two minds as to what to do over this one

I am surprised how quiet the rolls Royce engines were on the virgin Atlantic A330-900 because the engines are similar to that of the A330-343 that virgin Atlantic still flies on longer routes

Very similar to the engines on the A220-300 in terms of being quiet which you don’t expect with any passenger planes

What was the British airways plane at the show because depending on the plane then it depends on where the airline flies it because it British airways has certain routes almost every big plane summer season and the winter season it’s what they do and almost all airlines are like that

@FraserWest-um4ue Hi Fraser it was G-TTNY - about 1 week old at that point. You can see it in my separate film here - along with a brand new JetBlue A220-300 that had also been on display for a couple of days only before going back into service. ruclips.net/video/L_esK5WgR3g/видео.htmlsi=VYd0j0NYUXHdShnX

I knew that the Virgin Atlantic A330-900 was only a week old because virgin Atlantic keeps a record of the names and planes on their website it also lists what planes they have on order and what planes they are going retire

Nice !! Just additional notes regarding BBJ A6-AIN. I was tracking this on my SBS radar. It made a few circuits to the southwest of FAB (roughly over Alton and Bordon at my guesstimate) after its first few attempts to land. Attempted first landing at 18:45ish and was still going for it just after 20:20, then climbed to 10,000ft and headed north for Stansted. Should have gone there after the the first few failed attempts really.
