oh i forgot to mention this too. when shampoo girls had nothing to do, like if we were finished the dishes, laundry, sweeping, etc, we were not allowed to have down time. my manager would tell us that we HAD to be doing something every minute and she’d make us fold foils or pre cut plastic wrap sheets. she expected us to be working nonstop with no down time getting paid $6.50 an hour. lmao

I worked at a salon right after I graduated. I was hired by a co-owner Jon. But his partner was horrible to me. She would treat me so bad. My boss Jon told me 😮he didn’t know why she disliked me. With her emotional abuse, I started to get anxiety and depression. I gain weight. I started 110 pounds and when I left, I weight 160. She would yell at me and never said thank you for stuff I did right and told me once “people would respect me if I got my teeth fix and told me I need to be blonde and wear more makeup. And rumors that I was pregnant and I wasn’t. It was a very toxic environment. She once told me that I wasn’t good at doing good hair and I should do something I am good at like Art. I ended up doing education and quickly grow and I am equal of her. I found out I was good. People who are threatened by you. They will try to keep you insecure, so you don’t bypass them.

Are you a stylist now? Or just applied for the position and not become a stylist? I’m a assistant right now and I feel everything you’re saying, it’s true when you’re a shampoo tech/assistant nobody has respect for you to the point where they forget you’re still human outside of that, I don’t know if every salon is like this cause I’ve seen other local salons where I live and the assistants are happy, I feel so miserable sometimes and it’s also a place where they allow bluntness and get away with being a**holes, sometimes I even go home letting out my anger at my family members because I’m bottling everything. I’m 6 months in and I signed a contract for a year and I can’t quit because I’ll owe 2800$ Wish me luck 😔
