The only thing the people can slight BCU for is when they play songs they have played for years and I get it, but no one will argue that they sound bad because you can't. Even with the old songs they sound good and no one can deny that. If folks don't like their style, just say you don't like their style. Not every song they played was an old song - it simply wasn't arranged to the liking of their critics. One thing that seems to be very clear and deliberate about their band director Mr. Donovan Wells, "if ain't broke, don't fix it"- that's his way. This is the reason he has maintained such a strong band program. NONE of the talent on his band is wasted because many of his students go on to be great musicians and this is the reason they maintain their numbers year in and year out. Those of us who are true band heads know that these bands have two distinctly different styles and it's all a matter of preference to the folks watching them. While JSU is my favorite SWAC show band, BCU has always been a consistent force in the band world as well. The one thing you can say about BCU is that they don't sound like anyone else. The one thing that both bands have in common is that you know what you are going to get.
@@JuCityxJT The point I was making is whether BCU plays old or new music, they sound good. That's something no one can deny. They play new songs, but folks don't recognize it because they are so fixed on how BCU songs are arranged or how much they dance in the stands. All bands have certain songs they play year in and year out, even JSU with songs like Neck, We Came to Play, and The Show etc. Those are some of their hype songs and fans come to expect them during the game....no different for BCU.

The boom all the way, you have to notice in the music who is doing the writing for Jackson State, you have to notice in this video that Jackson State band director director is standing in the middle of the field walking in front of the camera he raises both of his arms up to getting more power notice the band directors for Jackson State in this film, one time for war and thunder drum section, I am Sonic boom for life
I believe more emphasis should be placed on the reaction of the crowd in these videos. The event staff's reactions throughout JSU's Scar made it more intense. I can only imagine what it must have felt like for them especially if it was their first time hearing the Boom in person.
The Boom used BCU as a practice for the other SWAC Bands because all of the bands in the SWAC have increased tremendously in numbers except for Mississippi Valley State University, Alcorn State University, and UAPB.
@@THEEGoat1400 oh yes they are small too well they better get ready because Alabama A&M University is not playing no games this year and their band have grown in numbers especially they're brass section
TX009 CREW MVSU and Alcorn musicianship is not that great. Everyone goal is trying to out blow everyone else which cause them to sound sloppy. So if that’s musicianship, I don’t know what musicianship is then. The bands I’ll gives my hats off for musicianship is Southern, Grambling, Jackson, Alabama State, and Alabama A&M. I’ll give MVSU their props because they have a nice playbook. I just want them to stop playing against each other and learn their music because some of the songs they play you can only hear one trumpet player or baritone player playing because they know their music.
Notice the BCU drum major on left starts directing off tempo at 13:37 and throws the tubas off. 🤣 Good thing they starting singing shortly after that or it would have thrown the entire song off. That's another thing, why does BCU sing more than they play? smh
Dope I agree PV sounds good, but if you wasn’t there to hear this live you can’t compare. Secondly JSU is unpredictable with book as you can see. They will be force this season. It just started so relax my G.
20:06Boy the event staff dudes funny af both of them kept saying god damn !!!!!! Take hat off rubs head out it back on another god damn DAWG TEAM was pushing they muffin cap back
I expected more of a 5th, but great job by both bands. Only the 1st game though, neither really wanted to open the book this early. Slight edge to J State, that mess up by BCU (4th song I think) did it. BTW with all due respect BCU was never really known to be a 5th quarter band only during the game & halftime...
I was there and y’all know I love the boom and JSU stole the halftime show easy, but I’m unbiased... and we got to address the elephant in the room.... trump funk on certain songs was not coming through like I wanted... JSU is very powerful with strong tubas and lower brass, but the trumpets can be thin and barely heard sometimes when the band is playing at full sound. Scar they were heard., and the 90s tune some didn’t know their music but were heard. First game, but JSU better pick it up for its upper brass... just keeping it a stack. JSU was in a different class but I applaud bcu for at least trying to play a new book yesterday.
David you know I Luv The Boom but I gotta agree with you. I think the trumpets will come along though. The majority of them are freshman. More practice and they will be fine. Wish I could have been there but I was in Houston for the National BOTB.

Lawd at 12:46 them Tubas straight beast Sonic Boom has a sound like no other from the entrance, zero quarter, halftime, 5th quarter, and the exit no one does it better everyone there was talking about the Sonic Boom mouth wide open and cheering they were truly awesome glad I was able to witness my favorite band showed completely out in ATL!!!
Jsu tubas sound so damn beautiful
JSU tubas didnt have to do then like that. Lol
Bih was out there barking!! Dawgteam on it and that ain't even all uum 🥶
JSU is Always On Fire 🔥
BCU DIDN'T COME TO BATTLE. DID MORE DANCING IN THE STANDS THAN ON FIELD.
Finally at 8:58 BCC showed some musicianship and depth. I’m so proud!
SWAC bands rule the world.
that WALL OF SOUND🔥🔥🔥
@16:32
JSU'S book is nice!!! The best No Guidance arrangement ive heard so far.
The P Tennessee st
Rico Swavey nah..... JSU is the best so far... and im an SU fan. I dont mind giving credit where its due though.
The P NSU’s is great too. You should check it out!
You must haven’t heard SU at all this year🤨 completely smashed famu last night
We will see at boombox classic nov 11 @The P
Never thought I’d see the day Jsu had so many tubas. That’s the one instrument I wish I’d learn to play
The Boom used BCU as a practice for the other SWAC Bands because all of the bands in the SWAC have increased tremendously in numbers except for Mississippi Valley State University, Alcorn State University, and UAPB.
James Jenkins don’t forget Alabama State
@@THEEGoat1400 oh yes they are small too well they better get ready because Alabama A&M University is not playing no games this year and their band have grown in numbers especially they're brass section
James Jenkins facts!
TX009 CREW you’re right they have. The last time MVSU was amazing was back in the 90’s when I was in the band at Grambling State University from 96-00
Notice the BCU drum major on left starts directing off tempo at 13:37 and throws the tubas off. 🤣 Good thing they starting singing shortly after that or it would have thrown the entire song off. That's another thing, why does BCU sing more than they play? smh
Yeahhh he did direct off tempo didn’t he 💀
I be looking for stuff like that💪
I was there live bro. Lmao man that shit was UGLY 😂
JSU, great job!! BCU, go back to the bandroom for sectionals and new music. #SU
I feel like I’m watching the movie drum line 2019 setting standards real bands
I feel like both bands need serious improvement and sound like high schoolers 😐
Dope most bands do but most of em don’t but you’ll see just keep watching 2019-2020 this is the year of trendsetters
This is the year of bullshit from top tier schools however be on the lookout for PV & Gram
Dope I agree PV sounds good, but if you wasn’t there to hear this live you can’t compare. Secondly JSU is unpredictable with book as you can see. They will be force this season. It just started so relax my G.
@@R0llin60s Why are you lying? Whatever flaws these bands have, no high school bands sound like these bands.
As Will Smith would say , " Boom Shake Shake Shake the Room ! Tic Tic Tic Tic Boom !"
The Boom is sounding good! Keep up the good work! BCU always sound good. I just want them to add more song selections in their book. #HBCUBands
My baby JSU slaughtered bcu. Dayummmmm JSU. SO MUCH POWER 💪💪💪
JSU should have cranked killshot, mobamba, SCAR, the morning after, secret garden, all mine smh
Daniel Phelps dayim str8...
@@alphoj SCAR takes no prisoners
Ain no point in playin mainly old songs inna 5th quarter
@@dipout9570 the old songs still lit. What bcu throughout would have gotten drowned by those few. They did play SCAR at the end...at least
@@danielphelps9867 most likely dey played dem durin the game
Both were good but THE BOOM just had MORE. Amazing battle 👑💛👑💛
Jackson state played Brandy! I STAN ❤️
I wish JSU had played more throughout the game (they played like 5 songs). Because when they did they were digging in BCU’s ass.
it's early in the year.... it surprises me they learn as much as they do so early and do it so well.
@19:39 the 2 event staffers was loving Tha Boom look at their expressions the entire song is hilarious they were amazed 💪🏾🙌🏾
still rolling at the event staff on JSU last song Scar...he had to take his hat off @22:19
Wow Jsu out play Cookemen? Wowww
Two of the best bands but i gotta give it to Jackson St. The sound they put out was just poweful And them tubas. 👍
The SHC in 2-3 weeks and im trying to get me a seat right now.
DAMNNN THAT KICK ON “He Is” SO FYE 🤐🤐😷
BOOM and the Settes are coming with heat this season! Thee Fan Favorite!!!
The trumpets can blast its just if they do it will cover up the woodwind sound that gives JSU that crisp sound like fam
