In today's video, GAME BATTLE makes a GRAND return. Super Mario Bros. 3 was the last 2D Mario game released for the NES, and it really pushed the hardware of the system to make the best platformer possible. However, Super Mario World was released on the SNES, which gave developers more powerful hardware to work with. But which of these 2 games is truly the better platformer? Join me today as we take a look at the Gameplay, graphics, sounds, innovation, and level design (each of which is going to be worth one point) to decide if Super Mario Bros. 3, or Super Mario World is truly the better game.
What are some game battles you’d like to see in the future?
Mario Galaxy vs Mario Galaxy 2
For many its obviously 2 but I feel 1 is just superior even in gameplay and has the better power ups. Yoshi doesn't feel as good.
@@M3rtyville I would say Galaxy 1. It feels more like an epic journey than Galaxy 2, and Galaxy 1 has the storybook.
Fortnite vs Super Smash Bros Ultimate
I’ve hardly played 2
WHAT
In my opinion I like sm3 more than world it's more leaner more simple and the levels feel a lot more fun
Mario 3 is PERFECTION.
3 is SLIGHTLY better ..
All it lacks is Yoshi otherwise it's everything is better
I prefer 3 over World as well but for me ironically I always found 3 to be more challenging than World. 😅
@@LMan86The final of smb3: zzz
Personally think Mario 3 is a way better game but I respect your opinion
Super Mario Bros. 3 is my favorite, but it's very close. I also really like the clean aesthetic of 3.
awesome!
SMB 3 pushed the 8-but hw much more than SMW did on the SNES. Something has to be said for that - Mario 3 looked leaps and bounds better than the early NES games including the orig. SMB.
I’ve been hyped for this one and it did not disappoint, glad to see the game battles are back!
Awesome! Glad to see you enjoyed it!
I disagree that Mario 3 is unoptimized. Most NES games have either vertical scrolling or horizontal scrolling, not both at the same time. Kirby and Mario 3 are two games that manage to bypass this limitation at the cost of the seam at the edge of the screen. It has to load the tiles as they're coming onto screen because it can't have them pre loaded. Having a game that could scroll like this was revolutionary at the time and made Mario 3 stand out from the competition. You can use the seam as an example of how the game's well optimized, not the opposite.

Here's a video that goes into more depth.
Yeah it’s crazy critique. I think the reviewer is quite young and doesn’t know the enormous accomplishment that SMB3 was. It was in development far far far longer than SMW (which was rushed out).
Super Mario Bros 3 was a revolution.
You know This debate is very simelar to the Sonic Adventure vs Sonic Adventure 2 debate. They both simelar games however there are changes that some people perfer in the first or second game. Just an intresting thought i had
I like World better but I still enjoyed 3. I think 3 could have been so much better if the levels were not so dang short. I am sure the levels were short because of the hardware limitations tho so for it's time 3 was a masterpiece. It's just that SMW blows it out of the water in my opinion.
Both games take about the same amount of time to beat (5 hours)n smb3 has 90 levels compared to world's 73
@@Gameprojordanyeah but Mario world is better cuz of, secrets, better art and YOSHI 🥚🥚🥚
@@Gameprojordan, but SMW has secret exits leading to a total of 96 final paths to take.
The koopas were actually trying to be menacing in this Super Mario World. Even without their shells, they were equipped with flying capes, and the koopas would try to fly at you. Others would kick shells, practice synchronized flying, or drive reckless in their colorful shells, while under the influence. And It startled me at first, but got silly over time. In fact, a lot of the baddies were silly in Super Mario World, such as the drunk thing trolling, by throwing hammers, while riding blocks with wings, Sumo Bro, kicking Thunder from it's feet, and we all can't forget Charging Chuck, lol.
Ever since the ‘90s I’ve believed this was a clear example of two games being truly equal. I can’t argue with anyone choosing either game. As for me, my favorite of the two is Super Mario World. My reasoning comes down to secrets. Three additional Yoshis, two full secret worlds, a ton of secret levels in the main world, including secret bosses (Reznor and Big Boo).
Super Mario Bros. 3 does have more power-ups for Mario, but the Yoshi powers in SMW balance that out.
SMB 3: Super, Raccoon, Fire, Frog, Tanooki, Hammer Bros, Kuribo’s Shoe, Starman
SMW: Super, Fire, Cape, Balloon, Red Yoshi, Yellow Yoshi, Blue Yoshi, Starman
That makes the unique power-ups equal between the games.
SMW also introduced Ghost Houses, a totally new type of Mario level that focuses on puzzle platforming.
SMB 3, on the other hand, scores points for more interactive world maps, minigames, mushroom houses, unique world themes, secret mushroom houses, coin ships, mini bosses on the map, item slots, and the fact that master of SMW’s cape is basically a cheat code.
So they end up being equal, basically, with my personal preference being SMW.
Excellent analysis. I try to give all the benefits to SMB3 that I can, but I can't see it being better than SMW overall. I'm always open to debate between the two games, but other than innovation, I find it difficult to give SMB3 an advantage in any other category. However the debate may pan out, one thing will never change: SMW stands on the shoulders of SMB3, and SMB3 on SMB1+LL.
Respect your elders.
All my life, I've been defending World as the better game, but honestly, I'm starting to think 3 is the best of the two now.
If you don't mind my asking, why do you think 3 is better? Other than innovation, I can't give it anything else over SMW.
@@captainboon2978 Just more fun, more levels, more unique gimmicks, plus I love how each world has a unique theme. Sadly World can suffer a bit with how a few of the worlds share themes.
@@Bloxed, I may have to play 3 again; it's been a while. While 3 may have more levels, SMW has secrets that sum up to more exits and give it greater replay value. I'm not quite sure what you mean about sharing world themes; I thought it did a decent job with these distinctions.
@@captainboon2978 the big problem with SMW is that the cape is way too OP. Not only can it trivialize many outdoor levels due to being able to fly over it but it also trivializes many enemy encounters since it can oneshot any enemy it's capable of hitting and even destroy the baseballs the Chargin Chucks throw. Worse is that the cape is found as early as Donut Plains 2-1 and the Green Switch Palace makes it even easier to obtain one. The spin jump is also OP as well as Yoshi who can stand on objects that would normally harm Mario. SMW defenders will say "Just don't use the cape" well I am you can not use it, but that doesn't remove the problem as then you're not playing the game the way it's intended. SMB3 had more creative levels, more level themes, more levels in general, and way more powerups (SMW only has 4 and the cape makes the fire flower near worthless). It's a close call for both games, but I have to give it to SMB3.
@@the757general2, I agree that the cape is too OP, and I also don't like the argument that you should just refrain from using the cape if you don't like it; it's part of the game, and it's supposed to be used.
I've found that the inclusion of Yoshi, the spin jump, and the ability to throw things upward make up for the comparative lack of power-ups; rather than relying on power-ups for extra abilities, you're forced to make Mario more versatile with his expanded move set.
It's been a while since I've played SMB3, but even though it had more levels, SMW had secret pathways, thereby making it the first Mario game to not only have replayable levels but to encourage it, making it creative in its own way.
It's too bad the game was rushed in development; I'm sure they would've made proper adjustments relating to the cape had they been given more time.
I always considered SMB3 and SMW to roughly equal. But usually I give the edge to SMB3 because of it being made on the inferior console. They had the harder challenge so I give them the edge.
That’s an interesting perspective
Exactly. SMB 3 pushed the NES harder than almost anything else - and it actually came out back in 1988 in Japan. SMW had the advantage of better hardware and comparatively didn’t push that hw nearly as much.
SMB 3 was more revolutionary too - added a world map and a choice in the next level you could play. Different suits started there first, too. The last point is subjective but for me the SMB 3 levels were mostly more fun.
@@tmclaughlin11 World blows 3. Had more fun levels and yoshi. Also secret exits and 2 bonus worlds.
Mario world, bros3 and land2 is best 2d mario games for my
Why didn't you choose the SNES version of SMB3 for a fair comparison?
Both great but I prefer Mario World controls. Having to tap a button to fly higher in Mario 3 makes flying with objects almost impossible (holding objects is another button your right thumb is also needed for). Yes, there's a harder learning curve for all the flying mechanics of Mario World but you don't need to fly at all to complete the game... but when you have learned, it opens up all the secret stuff in levels you can go back to and explore. It's brilliantly implemented.
Some points where 3 wins imo:
Better bosses (and more intense thanks to no checkpoints)
Better and more varied powerups. I love how rare some of the better ones are. Feels like you're really getting your hands on something valuable. More ways to be invincible to different kind of attacks, or to attack yourself
Seemingly larger and more varied worlds, with strong themes (grass, sand, water, giant, air, ice, plant, fire/dark). In SMW I remember them something like "normal, normal, cave, forest, chocolate?, disco cave". In 3 simply stepping into ice world feels dangerous thanks to the graphics and music. I also love that the worlds are not interconnected but instead feel like separate unique little worlds for real
MUCH more fun to fly (again imo)
Much more challenging to beat the game (I don't count star/special worlds as part of the "main game" plus they don't give me the same feeling anyway as walking into world 8)
Controls feel less floaty/slipperly
Castle (minimum of 1 in each level) + Airship > Castle + Castle
Enemies on world map
You can use items on the world map
You have a whole inventory of items to save, plan around and use as you wish. Decisions on who will get what rare item, toad house or mini game when playing with a friend
Just on top of my head, probably missed some lol
Some points world wins
Yoshi (different abilities with different shells)
Secret exits
Special worlds
Spin jump
Baby yoshis
Better bosses. Koopalings were more different from each other than Mario 3. Final boss also better.
Better level design.
I was playing smw while high yesterday.
Hadn't played the game in so long.
What surprised me is how forgettable the levels were. I obviously remember going through all of them, but i don't think the level design is as memorable or good as smb3
I accept this. I love them both to death
I feel like a closer comparison would have been the All-Stars version of SMB3. That's what I grew up with.
3:15
this is so the level can load as they have more stuff in the game, so it needs to do that to load the level.
There is no better in between. Though similar layouts venturing through levels on maps, both games were uniquely engineered. The only thing that one would argue is the power ups as Super Mario 3 had farmore power ups such as the hamer bother suite and the frog suit. Mario World offered Yoshi(s) that would make you disregard the need for power ups.
I was always a Mario World guy, but i really like the difficulty of smb3
Super Mario World is perhaps my favourite game of all time, truly legendary imo
I think that the ost to Super Mario World is fine, but SMB3's ost is a lot better imo.
The level music in SMW are just variations of the same song. Listen closely and you'll hear the same melody, with some changes here and there. Its a very creative way to use that music, and it kept me interested, but I also got kind of "bored" of the ost..?
As for SMB3, while it recycles the underground theme, the level music is at least different, with a theme for the overworld, athletic levels, cloud bonus levels, castle levels, water levels and even the airship and hammer bros levels had a unique theme. The underground is the same as SMB1, but more rythmically, I guess. The SNES version of the soundtrack improves on the NES one too, imo. It's the ost that I prefer at least.
Both games has a fantastic soundtrack, but SMB3 takes the cake for me.
IMO SMW still has the superior OST. SMB3 might have more variety with its melodies, but they are usually very short and do not have time to flesh themselves out. They are also very limited in their instrument choice.
For instance, SMB3's castle theme is a very short sequence of notes that only lasts about 18 seconds. Meanwhile SMW's castle theme lasts about 107 seconds and makes tons of cool references to old classical music.
Super Mario world has better melodies and are most fleshed out than 3’s
It doesn't matter which one is better as both games have Morton in them, meaning they're both perfect.
(Also, You are now cooler for using Honeycomb Herald as your outro theme)
I agree, Morton is love, Morton is life
Also, thanks! No one has really noticed 😂
@@Tricky_Nick I listen to the Cuphead ost on a daily basis, It'd be odd if I didn't notice, lol.
You should have added Challenge and Replayability, both of which are won by SMB3 hands down.
I’m replaying Mario World and honestly, I already think it’s better than Mario Bros 3 because the levels are well designed, Yoshi, the power ups while not as many as Mario Bros 3, I think they serve more of a purpose in Mario World and also the fact that the game has a save feature instead of having you beat the whole game in one sitting in Mario Bros 3 unless you’re playing it on NSO. Although I think the music is better in Mario Bros 3 because the 8 bit sound just makes those tracks so catchy. Also, Mario Bros 3’s level are fun as well, but Mario World’s levels I think are better. Also, the graphics in Mario World are better and more colorful than Mario Bros 3. However, I will say that the controls are a bit better in Mario Bros 3 because they’re kinda slippery in Mario World. But even then, they don’t ruin the game for me and so I agree that Mario World is the better game.
I give the edge to Super Mario 3 only because it took the hardware to the limit. Super Mario World was more advanced but there no sequels to that game or were we able to experience the generational jumps from Mario 1 -Mario 3. And I was patiently waiting for it. I think paint, all stars, Mario kart, and then system run ended with yoshi island and paper Mario. Similar thing happened with Mario. Lauded as the best but no sequel til the next console.
It's here, let's go!
Yeah! What did you think?
Also that moisturizer tangent was 👌
@@Tricky_Nick It was really good and informative for someone who's never played SMW. 👍
I enjoy smb3 more but thats my feeling, i am more frustrated when playing smw and smb3 is more fun.
Both are my joint favorite games of all time and have been all my (gaming) Life!
However, I do often think mario 3 just edges it ever so slightly. But world is a lot more accessible level design wise.
Even though I prefer 3 I’m glad to see World take the dub
Glad you still enjoyed it even though you were rooting for 3!
i honestly prefer the controls of mario 3, i think the player can play with his momentum more and it makes the movements less awkward to me. in world he’s very tight, which for a platformer is a good thing, but in this case it’s too tight.
Great video, but it does feel a little unfair pitting these game against each other, seeing as one is on significantly weaker hardware. Maybe in the future you could do games that are on the same or somewhat similar hardware? (3DS-Wii GBC-NES) But as they say, variety is the spice in life, nonetheless, great video as always!
Thank you! I think these were pretty even, but I see what you mean
Mario 3 more than manages to stand up against Mario World, it's a fantastic game too!
It's definitely fair. This is much more about gameplay than hardware. Same with most comparisons in general. 'Street Fighter II' > most Jaguar fighting games.
@@ryuhayabusa6776 What game do you prefer: Mario 3 or World?
@@matheus5230 It's been a long time, but I recall having more fun playing 'Super Mario Bros. 3.' Of course, 'Super Mario World' SHOULD have been more enjoyable, but I think it's a close second. 'EGM' said the same.
Mario World is the game I loved playing at a friends house and at my cousins home. I only owned an NES back in the day and it wasn't until the Pokemon Yellow launched I bought a new system, so I usually played the same handful of games over and over again. Mario 2 and 3 were the first games I bought with my own money. I thought I would hate Mario 3 just from the cover being yellow. I was 10 and was pretty picky. But I am glad I experienced Mario 3 and it became my favorite game to play. It is also the first game I played without seeing anyone beating it before it and it was the first time i felt accomplished.
There were also so many fun secrets I am still finding to this day. Truly a game of its time and why I love it above all Mario games.
But Mario World would likely just a tier below with Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy 1. Tho the reason Mario 64 is so high is I haven't played Oddessey and it has what many praise about Oddessey what other Mario games can't do that well: Moving away from linearity.
While I don't think linear games are bad, I think it can hurt some games especially Mario Galaxy 2 which takes a long time to get from the hubworld into actual gameplay.
My tierlist would be:
*S Tier*
Mario 3
*A Tier*
Mario World
Mario Galaxy
Mario 64
*B Tier*
Mario 1
Mario Sunshine
Mario Land
Mario Land 2
Mario 2
New Super Mario DS
New Super Mario Wii
*C Tier*
Mario Galaxy 2
Mario World 2 Yoshi's Island
Mario 3D World
*D Tier*
New Super Mario U
Mario Lost Levels
Mario 3D Land
*E Tier*
New Super Mario 2
I respect that, but I didn’t grow up with either game, so I didn’t really have a bias
I think galaxy 2 is as good, if bit better than galaxy
I first played Mario 3 back in late 1989. On my 3rd try, I beat World 1 without dying once. I was turning 7. I finally beat Mario 3 in May of 1990. After beating it and earning all the P Wings, I wanted to play through all the levels once again.
I first played SMW on Christmas Day 1991, it took me 5 Hours to get to the Castle in Donut Plains. I finally beat SMW in February of 1992 and got to Special World, I felt very underwhelmed at the lack variety and lackluster stage design. I tried out the changing season themes of Yoshi's Island and stupid Koopa wearing Mario Helmets. But unlike SMB 3, I was very letdown and bored of SMW.
1989's Super Mario Bros 3. is Pure Video Gaming Perfection. A FLAWLESS Classic, one of the GREATEST Video Games Ever MADE.
Smoking drugs with that list.
Nostalgia really effected your assessment on the games
How bout a battle between two gameboy games, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins vs. Donkey Kong 94. Both of these are some of the best gameboy games.
Super mario world is how they wanted to write the software for mario 3. The hardware wouldn't let them that game was right at the limit of the hardware.
Super mario world is the best game ever made!
Here are your points:
1 "Mario can do more in World". Actually no.. The Tanooki Suit can change the stone and kill enemies, where is the frog suit a hammer brothers suit The P wing that lets you fly for infinity.
Number two. "Mario controls better underwater world". no again what the frog suit Mario has the best control underwater ever.
3 "World has better music". No it doesn't it just has the same song over and over again, the music is better in 3!
4"World has secret exits". Mario three has secret exits, not a lot but it does. Plus once you leave the game you start the game all over again with full P Wing inventory. World has nothing like that.
I love Mario world, it's just in my opinion three outshines it but not by much
Okay so the song repeats over again? At least it’s original and also BROOOOO you can do more
What more you can do:
Spin jump
Fly
Bounce
And underwater
It’s GOOD UNLIKE 3 the music is so good and relaxing
And you can swim better
And atleast IT SAVES
SMW is my favorite 2D Mario game with Mario Land 2 being a close second
I like Mario Land 2 too!
3:13 I'm sorry, but did you really just call the vibrant world that is SMB3, dull?! Or were you mistakenly talking about the All-Stars version?
Mario World in my opinion it's not even close.
Super mario bros 3 his the more powerups.
Would've been more fair if you compared the graphics of the all stars version
Super Mario Bros 3 is better because it’s more varied, has more fun power ups and most importantly it was a lot more revolutionary than world. Compare the jump from smb1 to smb3 with the jump from smb3 to smw. Yeah, smb3 is a much bigger accomplishment
Not to be mean but couldn’t you compare and contrast SMW with the SNES version of SMB3? Since they’re both on the SNES console.
The SNES and GBA version of SMB3 is better than the NES
SMB3
I think it would have been more fair to compare smb3 from allstars with world because they are in the same console
Agree to a point. I think it’s fair to compare the games as they came out but given the detriment points in this video were graphics and soundtrack, which All Stars massively improved on, I’d be curious to know if his opinion would change.
@@hakpeth9292 i don't think his opinion will change as that port didn't add anything to the original but comparing the gba versions might change his opinion since the e-reader levels exist
3 by far
World by far
Why are each of the categories worth one point? I don't think that the categories are worth equal points sound and gameplay are not equal when talking about a game. Sound is an entirely subjective category unless of course you are referring to the quality in which case there's no point to making it a category since every SNES game has "better" sound quality due to hardware.
Lvl design usually comes from game mechanics. So gameplay is more important than lvl design. innovation would be 3rd (reason to upgrade from the last game or another companies game, whats new). Graphics dont matter too much, but a lack of upgrading does show laziness depending on the game. And I think sound is honestly least important. A lot of games these days have 32 bit sound and they can recreate all sorts of noises and that's great but some of the best sounding games are on the SNES and are just made of beeps and boops. Sound is a very easy thing to judge objectively when it comes to hardware and is basically pointless when judging games subjectively.
I would give it to SM3 as It came onto NES and gave competition to SNES and did an amazing job . The SMworld offers more and SM3 was more fun.
The only reason i pick mario 3 over mario world is the lack of powerups and they took away the ability to store multiple power ups. Being that they’re in dinosaur world mario should’ve gotten some dinosaur powerups like a t-rex suit lol idk just something more than cape, flower, mushrooms & P
What about the AllStars version of Super Mario Bros 3?
Graphics shouldnt have been included in this.
I have a very weird game battle suggestion, but fall guys vs stumble guy
I LOVE Super Mario World! There's so many secrets and the game is a lot longer. Also, like you said, the cape is challenging to learn and master. I also love that Yoshi is introduced and the cool things you can do with Yoshi. The enemies are so different as well.
Thank you for your review on these games. I really enjoyed your video.
Do you have a suggestion what game I should buy from the Wii U eShop with my remaining 8 Euros? I struggle since most popular games I already played and since I bought the 3DS at launch I have games like Metroid Fusion already.
I could get 1 of the 2 Mario Kart 8 DLC because my niece likes to play it when she comes to us, but they have a switch and may buy one there rendering the money spend useless.
Do you already have Captain Toad and Nintendo Land? If you can't afford that, I highly recommending getting a virtual console game that isn't on N64, SNES, or NES, as these won't be available on the switch once the Eshop is gone
@@Tricky_Nick So you suggest another GBA game?
I got Mario Advance 4 because it had the eReader levels.
I have the 3DS early purchase "rewards" like Wario Ware and Metroid Fusion.
Maybe I should look at it another day. Navigation is annoying on the eShop since nothing can be categorized by price.
Mario Kart Super Circuit is a pretty cool game. Not the greatest, but some of the courses in it are great and were never seen anywhere else
SMB3 hasn't trouble displaying the score, the time and the lives at the fight with Bowser... And gives you points for defeat him with the remaining time.
Super Mario 64 might have worse graphics than Super Mario Galaxy, but I still think that Super Mario 64 is better.
Mario World is better imo, mainly because of the 7th World of Mario 3 which is pure garbage. And the music is better. And is slightly more fun. But that’s not to say that one world can ruin the whole game because Mario 3 is HYPER fun and enjoyable. As a NES game, and it provides us so much to next games compared to the first 3. World Maps, Super Leaf, Tanooki Suit, Koopalings and so many more power ups and enemies.
I would say mario 3 was a way bigger jump from the first game than mario 3 to mario world. You have to take into account the hardware the programmers had to be clever.
Super Mario 3 has more you can do. More power ups
7:39 I hate to be that guy, but check points has been a thing since the original Super Mario Brothers. They just didn't exist in Super Mario Bros 3, because nearly all of the levels were very short
Unbiased super Mario world is better better color Pilates and was a more memorable time
I find 3 way more instantly likable.
Mario World is one of my favorite 2d platformers of all time. Right up there with Sonic Mania, and DKC Tropical Freeze. And is a game that even after all this time still holds up. I didn't even grow up playing this game. It came out far before I was even born but Mario World is still my 3rd favorite Mario game. Beating games that I grew up playing.
It’s truly amazing
Graphics: World because I like how the colors pop right into your face.
Gameplay: World because it has Yoshi and the Cape Feather.
Sounds: World because the effects sound more vibrant.
Innovation: Mario Bros 3 because it has more power ups.
Level design: World because I like how there’s many hidden paths.
Winner: World.
Você excluiu bastante coisa
Mario world has a better level design and ideas and I liked the secret stages
I CONSTANTLY debate between which is better. Mario 3. or Mario World. I’ve never grew up with a Super Nintendo, or an N64. And I’m a early 2000s baby so how did I grow up playing the NES? My mom had the original NES, as well as mario bros/Duck Hunt bundle as well as Mario 3. I played mario 3 like CRAZY on the ground with a CRT at the time. But the present day especially with the switch I have replayed these 2 games every year as a tradition I guess to see which one I like the most. It’s extremely difficult but I find Mario 3 to be slightly better. Mainly I think that the controls are better. I just like how high mario can jump. And mario world is absolutely amazing don’t get me wrong but, there are so many little things that bother me with the game. Such as the feather was like the absolute BEST power up. And there were only a couple of new power ups compared to Mario 3 having such a great array of power ups with the raccoon, frog, hammer suit, etc. sure I do love Yoshi and I ABSOLUTELY love the completely connected singular World you explore which I do miss in Mario 3: but overall I think the secrets and big contract between desert worlds to snow worlds are refreshing to me. Whereas Mario world I felt was really short in a way, and way to forgoing with 1 ups, and was way to easy to me at least. I think that’s the main issue I have with Mario World. Especially the koopalings they are so much better in Mario 3. But let me know what you guys think. I know this is really love but I constantly have these debates on and on with these 2 Amazing games :)
Forest Of Illusion ruins World for me. 3 is amazing.
I can't lie, I really did appreciate the things that SMW did, but I always like SMB3 more. Better power ups, more of a variety of power-ups, distinct locals, better music (NES version specifically!), better bosses, better difficulty (And by that, I mean it was actually challenging), and overall, there is just a certain term about the NES version of SMB3 that I just can't get enough of, compared to SMW.
Like I said, I love both games in their own right, but I just find myself playing Mario 3 or whole heck of a lot more often
Yoshi and his different abilities with shells make up for the less amount of power ups and the koopalings are more different from each other than they were in Mario 3
I SO DISAGREE about the soundtracks. I actually don’t like the style of world. And I don’t like it for its sound pallet choices… Cheesy and annoying from the start… Even with the NES’s inferior hardware, it is much more iconic to me… Music is subjective, however, so have your opinion, and I’m fine with it… But you are wrong lol
Mario 3 with SNES graphics is better than super Mario world
Tough to compare 8 bit to 16 bit
Please do a version of Mario galaxy 1 and 2 !!!!
Or maybe between Mario sunshine and Galaxy!! This kind of videos is really cool!!
Thank you! I may do that in the future so thanks for suggesting that!
Super Mario Bros 3 FTW!
Super Mario Bros 3 gets 2 bonus points for the Cat onesie. I know for hardcore fans it is not a cat, but my kids call it a cat so it is a cat!
Also the graphics are better on the NES. I think it comes down to how much of the capabilities of the console were used. Sure the SNES has parallax scrolling and more colours, but it is a lame attempt to use the possibilities. They stuck to the square tile level design, while later NES games showed how to take the next step (Power Blade, TMHT, Batman etc.). Also we had Sonic out for a year, so 16-bit graphics wise SMW sucks. Also Level design has to go to SMB3. Take a look at the Atari 2600esque junk SMB 1 was. SMB3 took it to what Mario World is today and set all the references for SMKart, the horrible 2023 Movie and all other franchise stuff ever after. So let me correct the scores:
0,5-0,5 gameplay
1,5-0,5 graphics
1,5-1,5 sound
2,5-1,5 innovation
3,5-1,5 level design
5,5-1,5 cat onesie!
KNOCKOUT victory for SMB3!
World still has things 3 does not have. World is still better.
@@lightninja4795 +1 for Josjie. SO 5,5-2,5
I find Super Mario World to be more enjoyable to play through tbh and ugh that iconic art style…
yeah but in SMB3 mario can become a furry so its an instant win for super mario world
SMB3 looks better
SMW feels better to play
but i love both equally
Smb3 looks better? I smell nostalgia…
Super Mario 3 was the best I like Super Mario world but my favorite was mario 3
Did you just use DKC 3 as an example of ugly graphics on the SNES?! Wtf man…
I am more off a Super Mario Bros 3 fan
About the Graphics if you hate the wierd stuff on the right in smb3 just use the All Stars Version or GBA
I Like Super Mario Bros 3 More At The Same Time I Do Recognize That Super Mario World Is a Better Game The Real Question Here Is Super Mario World Better Or Worst Then Super Mario Advance 4? For The Nintendo Eshop For The Wii U Because That Version Have All The Extra Content That You Would Get From The Game All Already In The Game Like The Super Cape And Even Extra Levels That Play a Lot Like Super Mario Maker Levels
You think DKC3 is UGLY???
Mario 3 is goat but world is very good too
Sounds are not that important either.
The controls or Mario world suck in comparison. It’s so much less fun and difficult to master. Going from Mario 3 to world is really wierd.
I don't agree
Mario 3 controls are way too floaty I often overshoot or undershoot jumps because mario doesnt align with where I'm expecting him to. Some of the later levels are just awkward without the tanooki suit for me
Ok the other hand in world mario always goes exactly where I expect him to
@@banzaialex5984 I have since changed my opinion ha. Still do personally think the floatiness of 3 is a bit more fun but that’s about it
@joelsytairo6338 I prefer world controls personally but part of that might be that I'm just way more familiar with them because the first time I played mario 3 to the end was this year while world is one I've played over and over again so my mind just immediately makes me play any 2d mario game like world or the modern 2d mario games by extension (since modern 2d mario games control somewhat similarly to world)
@@banzaialex5984 I feel like wonder has a bit more 3 influence but yeah
I grew up with both but always slightly preferred SMB3 over SMW. My reasoning is that 3 had way more power-ups and while SMW did have Yoshi. I still found the diverse number of power-ups more fun rather than just having it all centralized in a character (Yoshi).
I also preferred the inventory system for SMB3 because you can store an entire arsenal pretty much.
World design is better and far more diverse imho in SMB3. I could never forget Giant Land that area left a huge impact on me as a child.
Also tanooki suit >>>>> cape just saying.
Lastly, I don’t know if it’s just me. But I always found SMB3 to be the more challenging game between the two 🤷🏻♂️
Team mario 3
Graphics are not important here.
I think there's a limit to that. SMW has some fairly beautiful sprite work while SMB3 has some glitchy textures, inconsistent coloring, and weird color choice.
@@hypanusamericanus9058 I like the graphics in both games a lot :-)
Super mario world is better but is the most different Mario game in my opinion, Super Mario bros 3 feels more like a Mario game
Super Mario World is the best 2d mario game ever
I only need 1 word to prove SMW is better than SMB3: Yoshi
Yoshi is mid
2 words to prove otherwise: Cat Onesie
Tanooki Suit > Yoshi imo
@@maverickrob91 Cape Feather > Tanooki Suit
@@maverickrob91 Yoshi>cape feather>tanooki suit
NSMB DS is better, sorry. I know this game is universally and infamously despised as much as Hotel Mario, and saying that this game is better than the two fan favorites is basically a crime but i prefer it over these two, as i find the level design more varied and unique.
I'M SORRY, DON'T KILL ME. i'm not a true mario fan
It is not "universally and infamously despised as much as Hotel Mario." Everywhere you go, people will say they loved this game, much more than those who didn’t.
I loved it. I enjoyed the compact platforming and especially the music.
Bruh
Perhaps it would’ve been better comparing the graphics from smb3 all stars version.
