- hi! welcome to a vlog of moving, my first week living in Toronto, reading subpar books (but at least reading again!) and exploring the city a little bit - it's been super overwhelming but in a good way, there's so much to see and do and I am so in love with the big lake :')

Calcifier in his little seat belt is TOO CUTE for words. Enjoy and embrace every moment in Toronto!
06:58: Cixin Liu! God bless you girl, you will never regret reading that!
Omg It Happened One Summer basically sounds like the plot to the kdrama Hometown Cha Cha Cha, expect the protag was very likeable in that - not a clueless rich girl but a dentist from Seoul moving to a small fishing village. If you don't get on with the book, highly recommend the kdrama 🥰
Edit haahaa you literally just made the comparison too 🤣🤣 keep going with Cha Cha!!
Happy birthday!!!
Incredible
Beautiful house
So exciting!!! Can we get a toronto public library tour? Hope you have a nice weekend ❤️
What a great video idea! 😊😄
Your reaction when your partner came was soo adorable! I wish you patience and perseverance for settling to your new place, I’m sure it’s gonna go great🤍
it's seldom I ever get feelings of sentimentality but I just wanted to say this made me super happy for ya emma, I hope you, your significant other and Calcifer all settle in quickly and smoothly! also, happy birthday!
Love spending my Sundays here with Emma! 🥰 The place looks great! I’m sure it will get all cinnamony cozy emmafied! 😊 also yay for a bit of balcony space for URBAN CITY gardening! 🍅🪴🌱
Because you mentioned the Toronto Islands:
🏝“Ember Island is a magical place, keep an open mind. It can help you understand yourself. The beach has a special way of smoothing even the most ragged edges” - Lo and Li
So happy you are happy! 😊
Right?! 🌸🫶🏻
Sundays with Emma are the best by far.. 🥺💗
Emma Sundays are really the best way to reboot and start a new week 🙌
@@dorothyjean I agree! 🍄
@@literaterue 😊🤩
I got all teary eyed when I saw the Toronto skyline. I miss that city, especially the people. I hope it will treat you kind as well. Although I understand your pain about apartments--Toronto apartments are small and expensive. But you've got a lot to enjoy. I don't know how London was, but Toronto is super friendly for vegan/gluten-free diets. One of my former colleagues from Australia, who is celiac + is allergic to eggs and has lactose intolerance, literally started crying (tears of joy) because she never used to have so many options for eating.
Calcifier in his little seat belt thingy.... SO CUTE!
Also, im so glad (especially after seeing the moving videos from before where you went crying and lil panic attacks) to see you like it there! It probably will need a bit more time to fully feel home and comfy, but i guess the view outside the window is helping you alot! :D
And happy belated Birthday!
Calcifer reminds me of my own cat when he was a little baby! He also grew up to be enormous. I wish you the best with the move and settling in, and I'll look forward to seeing what you end up doing with the new apartment! 😊
Same, my boy is pushing 20lbs. Pretty sure he’s got some Maine coon in him 😅
Emma! You should go visit one of the BMV bookstores downtown! They have literally everything and it's ridiculously affordable bc they buy discontinued editions in bulk. And you can sell any books you don't want too and get store credit :)
When I travel to Toronto for work, I always try to leave room in my suitcase for a BMV visit - the bookstores in Toronto are fabulous
Emma, a month ago: I hate Toronto, I've never wanted to live in the city
Emma, two days in the new place: I love it here, I like it so much
❤❤
I felt the same way when I moved lolol
when your partner arrived and interrupted your book rant 😭❤
wishing you three all the best in this new chapter. hope you love to grow the place you moved into ♡♡♡

I enjoyed the Ruby Red trilogy overall, it wasn't a "wow" experience, just a light and fun read. I love the trope when the protagonist is underestimated and looked down upon by others because she either doesn't have an ability she was expected to have, or has an ability that she wasn't expected to have. My favorite part is when she finally makes a show of her true power and saves everyone's ass and others will have to eat their words, however that didn't quite happen in Ruby Red. The ending of the third book was anticlimactic and underwhelming to me. Gwenth was a rather passive protagonist.
Omg that series gave me panic attacks from the protagonist 😂 she was so annoying it was killing me
@@ha_limabeanz right?!! Her friend Leslie was drowning herself in research because she was worried about Gwenth's safety! But she was all "Gideon, Gideon, Gideon"
10:00 yes Gabriel Marquez is reading slump murderer lol🤣😂 truer words haven't been spoken ❤️
i'm glad your move went smoothly!! and fingers crossed your next reads will be better, reading slumps are so hard to combat
Omg I love calcefer.
That’s it. That’s today’s comment.
i second this
Amen to that! Calcifer just is the best! 🌼
🌸 I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS EARLY AND FOR THAT I AM SO PROUD. Happy to see you happy and growing in places you never expected to find yourself in, Emmie. All the love, always, from the PH, Rue An.
PS: Because of you, I’m reading 100 Years Of Solitude this month and I’m vlogging the entire experience as well!
This is such a sweet comment! I literally said the same thing happy to see her happy! Hope you have an awesome day @literaterue 🌳
@@Tania.atlasinajar yes I saw! Emmie deserves all the kind words this world can give, right? I do hope you’re having a nice day as well. So happy to be hanging out in the comments’ section of Emmie’s making bookish friends. 🥰
@@literaterue 🤗
@claudiaslit aww happy seeing you here too! 🌸
Oh my goodness, good luck in your new place! I hope you can feel at home there
Happy birthday Emmie!!!
You are such my inspiration to books and many things. You are like my companion who overcame days of depression and boredom with me...
So grateful to have you as a part of my life. Your videos make me feel so cozy and chilly especially when it is watched on Sunday!🥰
P/s: Enjoy your new apartment and your birthday!Love you!!☘🌳🌷🌱🌺🌻🌼🌹🌿🍁🍂🍃
So sad, that you didnt love Dream a little Dream. I read the series a while ago, when I was younger and I loved it so much. I live in Germany, so Kerstin Gier really was kind of an essential part of my childhood😆Personally, I preferred the Siver Trilogy over the Ruby Red Trilogy, since that deals a lot with time travel and I kinda have a hard time enjoying that in books. But I am already excited to hear your thoughts on Ruby Red, hopefully you´ll enjoy that more.☺Btw, there are also movies of the Ruby Red Trilogy but the books are definitely better. I hope you get settled in smoothly, happy birthday🎉and greetings from Germany!
1. Calcifer is so adorable I can’t even…
2. As a lifelong Florida resident, I can confirm: air conditioners always break in July. 🤬lol
I've hardly been on YT for months and this is the first vlog of yours I've watched in a long time. So happy for you! Looks like your life is filled with good things at the moment, which is exactly what you deserve
I just realized I've never seen lightning on water either and I live in the literal Ocean State. I'm now intrigued and must see this. Thank you, as always, for making our lives brighter with your thoughts and what you share with us. ❤️
I have a kitten just like yours his name is Sunny
Toronto is the kind of city that if you fall in love with it, the city loves you back.
I hope you enjoy it here!
I FINALLY found a copy of 100 years of solitude and I’m sooo excited to start reading it!
I don't know how you do this but every time i watch one of your videos it just makes me excited about reading and makes me appreciate reading and books in my life and now it makes me want to explore my city more - a city I've lived in almost all my life and don't particularly like tbh- and now i want to go and seek out new things and cool spots even here. So thanks for your energy and I'm very happy the move is going well for you, your partner and Calcifer 💕✨ and happy birthday once again 😌
I really love Kerstin Gier's YA books, I always read them to my mom and her fav series from her is actually the Dream a little dream one. I'm always a little protective of Gier's books when people read them in English because I think her absolute strong suit is the writing style and the atmosphere and I'm not sure it 100% translates but that may just be me being protective of my nostalgic favs 😅 I think the series is worth continuing though!
Also, loved this vlog and glad Calcifer is adjusting so well to the new environment! Hope you feel just as home ☺
Calcifer doing zoomies! 🥹 What a relaxing video for a sunday!
The dream a little dream series is fucking bad 😂 it’s boring and just becomes more and more of a misogynistic mess
Her other series is great but I heard that the english translation is pretty terrible 😅
Silly cow is a typical German thing to say. It's blöde Kuh or dumme Kuh in German :)
i know you just said you kind of don't like your birthday, but i just wanted you to know that i'm very grateful for your existence. and for sharing your life and your thoughts on the internet with us ♡♡♡
Happy Birthday, Emma! 🥳 Wishing you a wonderful year in Toronto and more books to discover & enjoy. Love you much!!
i hope everything works for the best 💗 and Calcifer is just sooo cute
happy moving & enjoy exploring your new city!
was surprised when you mentioned
"Home Town Cha Cha Cha" I am obsessed with Kdramas! I, too, am in
a reading slump. or reading break, i guess. I probably read One Hundred Years of
Solitude when I was your age, over 5o years ago! (I'm only guessing
that you are in your early 20s). It transformed the world of
fiction for me & part of it floats around in my brain even now.
"home town Cha Cha Cha" is superb, watched it 4 times a great feelgood drama series that only the Koreans seem to be able to do.
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha is sooo good!! It was like a sunshine🥺🥺
l can feel your passion for living in a different city!! happy for you too!!🥰enjoy your moment💞and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! 🎂🎂🎂💐💐💐
Lovely apartment I'm more of a country girl I hate the city lol great vlog as always🍉📚☕
"You have feelings? ewww, become a sociopath and stop being a peasant"- Kerstin Gier.
This is Awesome
A warm welcome from your neighbor in beautiful Buffalo! Congrats on the new place!
Beautiful house and the boys 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞 iiiiiooo to God I need you can sprinkle some time in it I will try my love 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘 it was really want u are going
Had a similar apartment when I lived in Chicago could the the lake and Willis tower on the 37th floor, was an experience for sure. Also happy early birthday
I enjoy so much seeing how Calcifer loves on you! You and your kitty have such a beautiful bond together.
My hometwon cha cha cha is one of my fav k-drama ever 😭💚💚💚 i feel like you're gonna love this k-drama so plz watch it , the first 2 ep is not the best but it will be much better . 💙😍
Loved the vlog, Emma! Toronto looks beautiful and exciting! Wish you, your partner and Calcifer are very happy in this big city! 😉😊💖
Happy birthday Emma! Hearing your story about your birthday anxiety when you were little was so relatable, thank you for sharing that. Also, totally agree with looking at a body of water for hours :)
Fun fact: Kerstin Gier is a quite popular german author and „silly cow“ is probably originating from the german insult „dumme Kuh“, which yes, is an insult, but not like a terrible one :)
Happy Birthday. Mine was on Thursday (the 21st) and the older I get the less I'm looking forward to them. Ah well, another year down, more to go.
Never thought I would ever watch a vlog where Emma is reading a TikTok popular romance 🙂🤦🏻♀️
Hi Emma. Recently I listened to the podcast Ologies with Alie Ward's epsiode on Neuropathology(concussions), its really informative. Sending all my regards 😊
air conditioning?
* is confused in European *
27°C as a heatwave?! My Hungarian mind with us having 40°C heatwaves for WEAKS now can't even comprehend
sorry about that : (
Calcifer is adorable and it was so sweet how happy you was that your partner was home 💗
i’m so happy for you, your partner and calcifer 🥺🥰 enjoy your newest chapter in life ❤️
This is an old video so I don't know if you will see this, but it's generally "good" news when a species gets classified as endangered because the process is bureaucratic, usually not based on new data, and involves taxonomic bs. They've been listed as a species of concern/endangered/etc in several places like California & Canada and they're slated to be listed in the US in 2024 for a while now. In the case of the IUCN (which is what this announcement was about), they just added a subspecies to the list that wasn't on there before--the species as a whole is still listed as "least concern". It's just recognizing that, yes, the Danaus plexippus in general are okay, but Danaus plexippus plexippus are very much not. Previously there was no distinction, so the plight of Danaus plexippus plexippus was not as "visible" in their data. Think of it as looking at an affluent city with a large unhoused population and declaring it in good shape because the average income and quality of life is very high. Highlighting the underserved population on its own is helpful in the long run, especially when trying to pass legislation or get grant funding for conservation efforts. :)
Canada is so cool i wanna live there so much!! i am so happy for you and i wish you a very nice and lovely year
I have a little sister (age twelve) whose birthday is coming up and I want to get her a manga, however I know nothing about manga. If anyone could suggest some it would be greatly appreciated. If it helps she likes dancing, drawing, baking, and animals. I’d prefer nothing with dating or magic.
"The promised neverland" of yakusoku no neverland
Is a masterpiece
I love it soo much
Another one is "banana fish"(o how to destroy your emotional stability )
Yey! So happy for you, Emma and Calcifer! ❤
The cats always following ,and looks like very exiting looks around...whats the name of the cat ?
I am 42 years old now and since 22 years ago I have decided not to celebrate my birthday anymore, but to make it a tradition to take a short vacation. No compulsory birthday. Love it!
Get a small ventilator for such days. A good one will easily low the temperature by 3-5 degrees & it's really cheap
She pulled up, it happened one summer and i literally knew where it was going, Stan Emma’s review lol❤
Congrats on the successful move. I always wonder if people who live in tall buildings feel the building move. Living in rural Kansas there aren't many, well any, tall buildings.
Hi! Hope you love Toronto!
If you were looking for a reading project as a hudge admirer of War & Peace I highly recommend Vanity Fair 😀
Hey, you're across Lake Ontario from me now (Rochester, NY)! Glad you're settling in and happy birthday to you!
i relate to your birthday anxiety so much! i used to cry and hide in my closet at my birthday parties from the ages of 3-11
I love you and your videos Emmie, they are just such a delight ^_^
Do you guys listen to audiobooks while you work? I love it when I’m cleaning, but I’ve tried to listen while doing computer work and it’s always a disaster. Wondering if I’m alone in this.
Not when I work, but I used to commute to work an hour or so each way and the audiobooks were perfect for the drive - and from time to time I'll listen to one if it pops up on RUclips
Wishing you guys the best of luck in your new home! Toronto looks lovely 🌳 can't wait for all the new adventures.
I love your videos so much
With those books and more in the future you will need a bigger apartment 😂Welcome to Toronto!
Literally screamed when you mentioned hometown cha cha cha
Calcifer is just unbearably cute.
I'm so glad that your new place has brought you some joy, with being able to see the water. Great to see your house plants appearing and of course your beautiful books. I hope in the future you can do a video on the libraries and bookshops of Toronto. In Melbourne, Australia we call Streetcars, Trams.
Hey @* e m m i e *, where did you get your bookshelves from? 😺
I feel you with the birthday anxiety, I hope you have a great day nonetheless. 💛
happy cat happy life
Emmie how can we join the book club for 100 days of solitude? 🥺
IIRC no one so far has created a Discord page, or organized the reading as a club
Love your new place looks fantastic and amazing 😉 hope that all goes well for you all please stay safe and enjoy your reading 📖 xxxx
Happy birthday! Be safe lovely :)
Thank you so, so much for taking us on this journey with you ♡
What's the name of the opening song
Gorgeous cat ❤️😽
Romance isn't my thing and It Happened One Summer does sound pretty hateable, BUT your description towards the end was giving me strong Alexis and Mutt vibes from Schitt's Creek, which I LOVE. Funny how the same tropes can be done across genres (and media, lol) and be so different. Also happy new home!!! Lightening on water sounds kind of epic. xo
I love You pretty woman
I literally love this ☺❤📚
l love your videos so much
Its better to DNF then keep reading something you are not enjoying. Such amazing views in your new place!
How is this going to affect your schooling? Are you gonna do everything online or are you close enough to the school to still go to campus if you want?
Hello from British Columbia Canada
🇨🇦👋👍♥️🌲🌲🧘♀️🌲🌲🐈🐆
I read the first ruby novel no worries about boys
Calcifer is so cute 😍
Beautiful Emma! I love the place and the view and the everything lol. Great video!! Happy birthday!!!!
I can relate to birthday anxiety; I don't like being the center of attention unless on my birthday either. So anniversaire paisible, Emma. And bonne journée de chat orange. Yeah, I don't speak French. LOL. Book Recommendation! When you have room, or maybe on Kindle: The Hotel New Hampshire by John Irving. A quirky family runs a hotel in NH, then in Vienna, with some romance and coming-of-age. But not a rom-com; it has tragedy. It was the first book I ever flung against a wall for making me suddenly weep, but I finished it. It's good.
Happy for you! welcome to Toronto! It's a crazy busy city but there is so much to see and do here. Have fun and enjoy each moment. The water is so lovely and soothing. Wishing you all the best with your new apartment and adventures!
Calcifer is so sweet! Enjoy Toronto! Having a fan helps when your AC is not working. Happy Birthday!
Literally as you were describing It Happened One Summer I was thinking that it sounds exactly like Hometown Cha Cha Cha lol. Which I adore...maybe I'll give it a shot
