@@kearsargeyt8848 I’ve only got the IPhone 11, and it really causes me problems with my wrists and thumbs. It’s just too heavy, I prefer using my 7 and my X! I’ve tried the newer ones, but they’re just too heavy and big for my hands. What I meant was that with a flip it’d hopefully mean less distance to cover with my thumbs. But what I really want is less weight. I don’t think Matt mentioned how heavy any new phone would be. Less weight and less stress on my wrists and hands is what I really want.
It’ll be interesting to see how Apple does it. More so on the animations and the new software needed to really bring the user experience to life. I haven’t been a huge fan of foldable phones ever since Samsung made its first. Mainly because the screen has to be made of plastic to fold and the crease at the middle can be very noticeable. Not to mention it’s weaker due to being less glass overall. Price wise, I expect it to start at two grand and that’s Apple being reasonable. They’ll treat it as an ultra premium product. Wether it’ll truly be that is yet to be seen.
Foldable phones have come a long way since the problems you're talking about were a thing. I switched from iphone to the z fold 6 and it's the greatest phone I've ever had. I'm waiting for apple to make a similar phone because I can't go back to a non foldable phone but I don't like samsung UI as much as apple
I would love for Apple to come out with the iphone 18 flip pro max. No need to reduce phone soze just because it can flip, keep the original big status size while being able to compact it within the pocket.
It makes sense to use mature technology instead of new technology. The first 4G phones were so bad there was an app to disable the 4G radio to save the battery, but Apple waited until that was no longer necessary. Same with 5G
I used the first samsung flagships with 5g and they didn't have a noticeable dip in battery life. There was not really that much of an issue with 5g in this sense. Some models from some brands had issues, but this whole "apple doesn't release it until the technology is mature" is stupid. People say that about the always on display, but Apple's implementation used more battery on launch, and it still is a bit of a drain. We have to stop playing into marketing. They do release polished products, but I'm just going to laugh at you if you say the 3 years they didn't have 120hz was because the technology "needed to mature". That tech existed for ages and Samsung display had made efficient 120hz screen for a while. Stop believing this marketing that apple are these godlike producers of tech. Their products lag behind the competition, and the competition has good implementation from day 1.
I'd definitely be in for a foldable iPhone of some sort. The clamshell would be easy enough to implement (although Apple may want something special to happen when setting a half-folded phone on a desk -- have something display on the top, something else happening on the bottom, etc.) For the foldable model (which opens into a 'tablet' of sorts) Apple would have to create a hybrid iPhone-iPad OS, so that when the device is unfolded, it 'becomes' an iPad mini, etc.
I am aware that some of the earlier foldable phones were having screen issues. So Apple are best ensuring they have a "perfect" product and also so see if there is still demand for this in 12 months time. Tech wise, I need a great touch screen that works well with an apple pencil but gives photo realistic and calibrated for photo post production and re-touching that can also switch for video, better than a benQ. Does not exist yet.
My mom has the Samsung ZFlip, nifty phone and the hinge is robust. Idk if I am still sold on the foldable phone. It made sense in the past given the limits of tech (all phones had a full numpad, screens weren't as large). If you tried a fold like the original Motorola flip as a regular slab of phone it would've been rather tall and narrow. Modern phones, are, of course, far bigger now. However, all of that size is useable as it is all screen. So I still don't see a need for a foldable phone. As for the iPad, etc. I think its biggest issue is that it has the hardware to be a genuine laptop replacement; however, that would eat into Mac Air sales. Hence it is massively heldback by its OS.
I was a Samsung Pro for a few years and they sent me the Z Flip each year, it was great, I am a big fan of the folding phones. If we got a Iphone Flip I would be in line to pick one up if they can at least match what Samsung has right now durability and longevity wise for the screen. Just hope they would focus on keeping pro level performance and features though I can see them sticking with the regular cameras. I would really be more interested in a fold style device if they can get it roughly the size of an ipad mini when opened up. Since I use my ipad mini far more than my iphone for everything other than calls. I also would love to get my hands on an Apple Vision device if they get a new version out at a more reasonable pricepoint. I love my Quest 3 and VR/AR devices in general, but the AVP is the only one that I think get's the productivity stuff done right, but it's lost in a lot of unnessisary things that push the price up, like that outer lenticular screen, and bad ergonomic choices including their alumininum magnesium frame that adds just way to much extra weight to the device. Removing the battery from the headset helped keep the weight down a bit, but at that point I feel they should have removed the compute from it as well and kept the compute and battery in that separate base and given it a belt holster.
I’d like to get either a new Apple Watch or the Apple AirPods. Side note… I’m not sure how I feel about a foldable Apple phone. My husband has a Samsung flip and I just don’t like the feel of the crease.
