No matter how much people make fun of movies for scenes like this, they watch it...again and again. Because in all reality we ALL wish something like this would happen to us. And though it probably never will, it's fun to imagine.

And I thought that the blonde girl (I forgot her name) and her bestfriend would end up together because that's what happens in most movies. But then I saw the scene then I was really surprised.
When Austin saw Sam leaving he must have realized that this was his last chance, his time to choose, to either be the Football Star with the Hot Girlfriend, or following his Heart and pursue Writing and the Girl he Loves.
The other part is that Austin felt he could only be his REAL self with Sam. He did not want to follow his Dad's dream and live this fake life. Sam was the only one brave enough to break the expectations of her, and follow her dreams.. and gave Austin the strength to do the same.
I agree, i stayed the same as well...a damn too much romantic guy ! I'm so much that kind that i can only take and give pleasure with the girl i love and no one else.
Best quote: 'Because waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought, useless and disappointing' beautiful metaphor. Then the scene when the miraculous rain drops during the kiss, during the time of endless drought, he says 'i'm sorry you waited for the rain'. Perfect scene and great screenwriting, it shows that you can wait and you can believe and its not useless when you do that. As long as you stay strong in your beliefs, your true prince will come just like rain in an endless drought.

No matter how many times I see this scene I never grow tired of it,the message clear here:sacrifice yourself for the approval of others or sacrifice your pride and appearance for the one who truly sees you as human. This scene not only gives that belief but the fact when you’re in love it doesn’t matter what others think or feel for you and in the end when Sam and Austin kissed some people hollered and cheered for them finding each other’s happiness. A movie not only about true love but to show self respect if someone doesn’t take the chance to show that they truly appreciate you and move one.
if only there were real life moments and not in movies i would believe in the idea of giving up everything for that love. reality beats love for some reason and it sucks/..
Actually this was not about giving up everything for love..this was about choosing your true self and being brave..he loved to write but was living this safe fake world created by his dad and ex girlfriend where they were telling him what to do and the girl Sam was being pushed around and kept saying she was a nobody..both of them were their true self only when they were together.. but later she realised that she should stand up be brave and stay true to what she believe in and she says the same thing to him. That's when he realises that being his true self and being brave just like Sam is better than his fake world. She inspires him.
