I just happened across this video, after all these years, I don't know how I didn't see it before. It could have been a personal reading for myself. It makes perfect sense to my current situation. Thanks John!
Dear Amber: I imagine that when you are in a situation where you have to think things through, that you will get more out of the experience if you exercise some level of self-control and self-discipline rather than going overboard and jumping to the extreme.
That was interesting John, I've always thought of the 4 cups as self discipline which I guess is 'choosing for ones self' which is how you've presented it today. Thanx
John, You know my stance on card meanings. I am concerned that one of the meanings you ascribe to the suit of Pentacles is "Values" I am quite happy to extend to that meaning providing the traditional meaning of the card is honoured. We are not empowered to change ancient values/meanings. So, for Pentacles, 'values' in respect of finances, investments, land ownership, prosperity, poverty & hardship I can handle & accept. However..... 'Values' ascribed from Pentacles for, say, love affairs or work commitments would be better placed within Cup's and Wand's meanings respectively, otherwise there is a great danger of merely following blind intuition rather than actual card meanings where the end result is often nothing more than a review of the reader's already held views, which makes reading the cards worthless. In that case we just need good 'story tellers' with fertile minds. We need to distance ourselves, just a little, from the modern day viewpoint that sticking to ancient and traditional values & is somehow wrong.
Dear Philip: I like discussions like this, and hope to have more of them at the new site that should be up and running in a week or so. I think it depends what we think a Tarot reader actually is and does. Also, Coins can be money, but you make money, not through hard work, but through the mind and one's thoughts. Bill Gates worked hard for his income, but he didn't make money through physical labour - it was his imagination and thoughts that brought him wealth (and maybe some trickery), and this is where the idea of values comes in. If you consider Pentacles as values, you get more out of the card, and you don't lose connection with the basic meaning.
Thank you John. As ever I value your opinion and I will try and incorporate 'values' into Pentacles' signposts. I CAN see a connection, a wee bit tenuous for my liking but I do concede its existence. Speak to you later
@@philipslater4142 I would like to add that it is very similar to the second house in astrology. The 2nd house is values, which includes money. The way we make money usually stems from our value sense that we learned in early life.
