As an animator, I would not recommend changing the sliding just by moving it, you can just select the root bone and change the interpolation mode to bezier.

if you change it to brezier it doesn't move in a constant motion and it will go slow at the beginning, speed up and slow down to a stop again, or im reading this wrong

linear makes it ease, bezier keeps it at a constant motion.
