Its almost refreshing to have a few guys on the grid who aren't doing it for the sponsors/money but just for the love of racing. Having more legends running a couple of times a year in the Xfinity/Trucks series would be great, gives a reason for fans to buy a ticket, brings extra eyeballs, & allows new fans to get in touch with the history of the sport

I've been a Jimmie Johnson fan since I was a young kid, and to me, you can't tarnish a legacy just from going to a few races and having some fun, if anything that only adds to the character that is Jimmie Johnson, the man, who is essentially the new version of Mark Martin, who wants to keep going and going, despite him getting close and into his 50's. The only way Jimmie Johnson tarnishes his legacy, is if he does something that's not Jimmie Johnson, like purposely wreak someone for a caution or for the win, or constantly getting into fights, or something that Jimmie Johnson would never do. I very much look forward to cheering him and Kyle Larson on at the 500 and the rest of the races that Jimmie plans on racing!

Biggest thing against Jimmie going out and running is that he may show up and run like the Labontes did as they went to the end of their career. Both of those brothers are honest champions and there's a swath of people that know them only for propping up back markers and running in SRX.
As out the door as he was in his final year, chances are if he didn't miss the one race being down with the sickness he can show up in the playoffs for better or worse.

I wasn't a JJ fan,but he is a class act, raced everyone clean, way more clean then most drivers do.regardless of the points system he won 5 cups in a row,FIVE.he took cups away from my driver Harvick, the same way Gordon took cups away from my all time favorite Dale Sr.hes not coming back to win championships.hes coming back to have fun.funny part is I hated Jeff Gordon, his and dales rivalry was awesome.but as he raced more and more, and when he put that 3 flag out of his window when he tied dale, that really changed my mind set.jimmie may of been a product of the points system, but nobody did it better then he did,him and Chad stomped the competition, and that's hard for me to admit

One more chance to see him, to get an autgraph and maybe buy some merchandise. I always at least respected Johnson, being a Gordon fan, I didn't however like (from jealousy) how he kept winning championships. Lol. Than he tied Gordon, than he got five. And I was like... 🤬🤬🤬😆😆😆 And, I kind of kept into the back of my head "Gordon is still the better driver". 😆😆 And I was waiting for a race where them two could go toe to toe, possibly with worn out tires on their cars at one of the older, more aged track surfaces on the circuit, that would be the ideal situation to really see who is the better driver, racing for the win, just them two at the end....... Than, Atlanta 2011 came around, and those last 20 laps Gordon and Johnson were 1 and 2, and those last 20 or so laps were a thing of beauty. 😍😍 Probably one of the purest, most competitive moments we've had captured on a camera. Them 2 went at it, and we're just leaving the rest of the field. I think they really were waiting on that situation too. And, I think it's closer than a lot of people think. But, Gordon I feel like, a tiny bit more driving talent than Johnson. But, you can't take away those 7 championships, he won 5 of em in a row. 😳😳🧐🧐 🤷 No one is going to do that again. No matter the points system. I'm glad to see him coming back.

Jimmie might be on to something. More drivers splitting seasons could be a thing of the future and give some of these guys a break from racing. It could potentially give some of these drivers a time to re focus and be more competitive

Jimmy's the greatest of all time in my book I knew he wasn't going to do good in indycar it's just to different and I know he's not gonna win now I'm just enjoying seeing one of the greats out there on the track for the cool races

Nobody dogs on petty for his 10 year winless streak. He’s the king. JJs 83 wins and 7 titles don’t change. He’s still on Mount Rushmore.

I love that Jimmie is coming back. I was never a big fan, but the sumbitch could drive! As far as hurting his legacy, Richard Petty rode around in the pack for the last years of his career and it doesn't seemed to have hurt his legacy.

Realistically I don’t know how competitive he’ll be with that team with that being said he is at a huge disadvantage with it being his first year in that car while the competition has a year in it

This is about Jimmie, not anybody else. Not you nor me. In his defense, the struggle of his last few years was an overall downswing of performance at HMS more than anything else,I believe.

Jimmie might have some catching up to do, but with some of the people that won in this new created equal car last year Jimmie can definitely win. Then he will be able to communicate better with his drivers.

Let me just say this... Richard Petty and his team(s) have gone through lots of ups, but mostly downs, since his 200th win.
At the end of the day, he's still the King. The results define your legacy. Sounds like Jimmie is not ready to stop and be in the hall yet haha.

I don't think it's because he feels he has something to prove, like Jr. said, his last few years were a struggle anyways. He wanted a less demanding schedule, and something different but still loves racing either way

JJ is the best. The crappy chevys in 2018, 2019 and 2020 were the problem. I mean really,, 3 years and Chevy only had 20 wins compared to over 40 each for Ford and Toyota.

I'm glad Jimmie is back. But, I think that if he wins, he should have the right to compete in the Chase. NASCAR makes exceptions for different reasons. I think they should give him a shot at an 8th championship if he can win.
