      This is sort of unrelated, but I'm appalled that people genuinely expect Nintendo's next console having graphics considerably better than PS4 when the iPhone 15 Pro, a $1K+ device, can't even match the last gen console (as seen here). Sure, you'll get higher power targets while docked and Nvidia's superior GPU package, but at best it'll be somewhat comparable or slightly better than base PS4 (and below PS4 Pro), but only when docked.

    • @Der-Kleine
      @Der-Kleine 7 месяцев назад +27

      @@leonro One benefit the next switch will have going for it is that it can draw more power, even in handheld mode. From what I can gather online along with some napkin math, the iPhone 15 Pro Max can consume up to around 5 Watts in total (all components) in a game like resident evil. The original Switch consumed up to around 9W in portable mode (again: all components). *IF* the next switch is a larger device, higher power targets might also be possible. Steam deck is around 24-27W after all, though I doubt Nintendo would go that far.
      The next switch will also have the advantage of having major games be specifically made for it (unlike the iPhone so far) and will support more modern rendering features unlike the PS4. So in short, it's not a straight comparison between these devices. A barebones port of a game from Ps4 might not do so well on a Switch 2, but it's also not entirely unfeasible for there to be new games that look better than a lot of stuff on PS4.

      The PS4 in my personal opinion , looks to be a console that makes it harder for the uninitiated to easily see giant strides in graphical enhancements going forward in console power. The same wasnt true for its predecessor

    • @leonro
      @leonro 7 месяцев назад +5

      @@Der-Kleine Again, I'm almost certain that the Switch 2 will beat the iPhone, even if the phone's SoC uses a superior process node (3nm TSMC) when compared to even the most optimistic Switch 2 rumours (4nm TSMC). There will be higher power targets and probably a larger battery to support them, plus a few other factors that will help in better optimising software for the platform.
      It's just that this is the class of hardware the console will be on. I've seen numerous comments on how it'll get close to the Series S, which is simply impossible.

    Am I tripping? The difference seems massive. Like you couldn't even make out the grass and moss on the iPhone, it's just puddles and smears of green. The difference between the footage is like comparing a printed photo vs an oil painted rendition of the scene.

    • @BenyaminLorit
      @BenyaminLorit 7 месяцев назад +64

      @@VariantAEC photo mode isn't exactly a good way to assess footage since it often doesn't resemble actual gameplay image quality. What Marik said. He does talk the resolution decrease, calling it "huge" and saying the iPhone seemed to average around 400p. For all the other comparisons, he was talking about the actual underlying settings and techniques.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 7 месяцев назад +5

      The shading is similar and the rendering techniques are similar. Some of the compromises that are often made when porting down is simplifying the lighting and shading function, cutting down on atmospheric and volumetric shading, removing ambient occlusion, and also cutting down on offscreen buffers such as removing shadow mapping entirely. Of course once you do that, the image won't be recognisable as similar even from a distance regardless of resolution or how sharp or blurry it is or the LOD selection. This is what they have been able to avoid, and given the target is a phone, this is impressive.

      400p on a 6.7" screen is a higher pixel density than 1080p on a 24" screen and the same as 1440p on a 27" screen.
      The difference in viewing distance is made up for by the considerably higher pixel density vs. 1080p 24", and 1080p 24" is definitely the most common monitor choice. We are talking about ~110 ppi vs. 90ppi here, and that is if the phone is the 6.7" Pro Max and not the 6.1" regular! The gap gets even bigger there.
      If 400p on a phone is bad, then you better not be using a 1080p 24" monitor or worse...

    Playing the game for a bit on my base M1 MacBook Pro I was quite impressed. It basically looked like how I remember the PS4 version looking back in the day, perhaps a bit sharper, at 30fps with default settings. I may tune the game to hit 60fps but I was quite happy with my fans not ramping up until about 10 minutes into the game. I have a custom fan curve that starts at 50% once anything on the chipset hits 50 degrees Celsius. Even once my fans started the temperature did not go above 60 degrees C. I found it impressive the the laptop was running that cool with the game output to 1080p with the upscale while the Steam Deck really struggles to hit that 1080p 30fps target while still looking good.
    I may come back to update this comment once I get to the second area of the game, since that location is more taxing.

An anecdotal example I have would be the 3070 vs 4070 in rasterised performance, I believe the 4070 is only around a 10-13% improvement. It is time nintendo for 300p aaa gaming. Naw man, even the steam deck is pretty bad at playing newer games.

    I was impressed... By then I remembered the PS4 is a 2013 hardware... Now this is impressive for the PS4, actually.

    I’m playing on a M2 MAX MBP 14’, wide 1440p, MetalFX temporal ultra and max settings. While I left the Metal HUD on it was staying between 60 and 90 FPS. Although I saw it deep in the high 50s once or twice. Now I don’t have the HUD on, I played for around 40 hours on an external monitor with VRR. It’s been a great experience, as good as my 150 hours on PS5 and better than my 350 hours on PS4 Pro. (No kidding 😂)
    I also played 4/5 hours on Steam Deck and for some reason I didn’t feel compelled to go back continuing the game while I can’t wait to go back playing on Mac. 🤣
    My 2 cents. Cheers and happy gaming.

    Sorry but those differences are massive and obvious. The iphone is so low res conpared to the ps4 and the detail reduction is huge! And when you say simplified waterfall animation... what animation? Looks forzen to me. I like DF because they tell it like it is without biased or a leaning. Almost seems paid ad territory

      He pointed out the low resolution, which is most of the reason for detail reduction. And there was the bare minimum of animation on the waterfall, you just weren't looking close enough

    While there is a considerable difference, at least from what I can see, I still find it impressive to see it running on an iPhone, even though I don't own one myself.
