  • The Labour manifesto has two clear messages on higher education: that our universities are a world-leading asset for the UK - and that the current funding model doesn’t work for universities, staff, students or taxpayers. The sector is approaching a crisis point but is vital to delivering Labour’s growth and opportunity missions, where stronger links between higher and further education and supporting Labour’s post-16 skills strategy will be key. This session explored the challenges and opportunities, with insights from an expert panel.
    Speakers:
    - Baroness Jacqui Smith, Minister of State (Minister for Skills)
    - Baroness Margaret Hodge, Former Minister of State (Education)
    - Professor Shitij Kapur, Vice-Chancellor & President, King’s College London
    - James Purnell, President & Vice-Chancellor, University of the Arts London
