I wanted Luke in the sequels to portray the same sort of role Yoda did in the prequels... not the main character but a slightly side character whose the wise, powerful and badass grandmaster of the new jedi order... where the protagonist was Ben Solo whose 'internal struggle' was more about not feeling good enough to live up the expectations of being the nephew of Luke Skywalker and the son of Leia/Han
@@DaedalFactotem They doomed that trilogy when all they could make up in Ep 7 was another Rebels vs Empire dynamic (despite the good guys winning last time) just with different names.
This is what Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams, and Rian Johnson would have had and they chose to throw it away and divide the fans. It was almost impossible to mess up but they found a way.
@@desertfox2000 You do realize that Lucas' own sequel trilogy ideas literally had Luke hide away in exile right? They followed Lucas' vision for his characters.
People are so emotional about Luke because they're able, at least for a bit, to forget about his character assassination in TLJ and find some closure. We saw Luke as he was supposed to be. Not a loser hermit who tried to murder his nephew like a coward. Hope LucasFilm understands that.
@@j.f.l.bousquet1998 Had they not saved themselves, there would be an untrained luke against Vader. Yoda and Obi-Wan were the characters we loved even in hiding because they were well written.
Mark Hamill is 69 years old. He would've been 62-65 at the time of filming the movies. He's not going to be some acrobatic badass. Then if you CG Mark flipping around, it will look stupid. If you have Luke fight slow like Obi-Wan in ANH, people would complain it's not exciting enough. A lot of people think they can write better but give it to fans, and they come up with cliched ideas. Empire Strikes Back -- every fan wanted Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie to do their buddy thing, get in adventures, have lots of fun. It turned out to be a cliffhanger ending with a terrifying revelation (Darth Vader is the father), and the bad guys winning and the heroes broken apart and at their lowest point. I bet you fans would not have written that. Which is why ESB had mixed reception, believe it or not, back in 1980. For some, the movie didn't go in the direction they expected. It got dark, and the bad guys kicked the asses of the good guys. And yet, ESB in hindsight is crowned the best of the saga by a majority. I'm not saying TLJ is great, but considering Mark is in his 60s, Harrison Ford didn't want to be in more than one film, and Carrie Fisher passed away suddenly, how the HELL would you have written it and still satisfied fans? You gotta think from the writers' perspective. It ain't easy.
So heartwarming to see how much Luke means to so many people, eventhough sooooooo many years have passed since the first 3 movies were made. Luke is a FRIGGIN' LEGEND!
These are the reactions I love, pure and genuine. This meant a lot to so many of us, the real Star Wars fans. Too many youtubers out there faking it for likes.
38 years old and it hit me pretty hard. I grew up watching to Original (original original) Trilogy on VHS. I wish I could see my Dads face whenever he gets around to watching the Mandalorian, he was one of those kids that repeatedly watched A New Hope in the theater.
The way the reveal was done was just perfect... It start with "There is no way that is Luke" followed by "Could that really be Luke?", "Dude! I think that is Luke!", "Thats FUCKING LUKE!!!" and that is all before he finally took off his hood and you really knew it was 100% him... This was so much better than just giving him up front.
...and the Empire killed 2 billion on Alderran. The DS was a military target. Plus....in the end, the Empire wound up killing trillions. So, no sympathy for the Empire.
@@darthracer777 that maybe true, but te rebellion also killed a lot of people on their way to liberation. every stormtrooper or crew member the rebels killed was somewhere a father, brother, son, mother, sister or daughter never coming back home. both sides did questionable sings, but the movies did not show that.
Sebastian Stan, I'm pretty sure, was probably busy with the Winter Soldier/Falcon production coming out. I'm glad they just CGI'd Mark Hamill instead. I'm not ready to see anyone else play adult Luke Skywalker.
If they cast Sebastian Stan, it's like hinting Luke Skywalker is gonna come back in next season or another tv show. They use CGI so, they don't want to bring back Luke for other projects. On the other hand Mark Hamill deserve to be remembered like this. In his prime, not like a child murderer hobo shadow of himself. But also thinking he overshadow all other characters in this timeline especially bad guys. Sadly no info given what he's up to etc. It feels like the Rey Palpatine movies. We need background information that expand the universe. That's only nitpicking tho, great episode.
To be completely honest, because I was still teary eyed as hell, I was convinced for the first moments that it was Sebastian Stan. Only when I read the credits that it was Mark himself, I realized my folly lol that was impressive. Most impressive.
Man this is the closest to how I felt. Once I saw the lone Xwing my eyes started tearing up and I screamed NO! Over and over at my tv. Then the green light saber and I was a pile of snot and tears. This will come down in history as the episode that had only grown-up men and women cried out of happiness. Only us 80s and 70s kids had this very special SW emotion from watching this episode that none other will ever have.
"Mature" woman here. I was 17 in 1977, and I cried like a little girl watching this. Not dismissing the SW fans who came into the fold later, but to see the REAL Luke again, at his peak, after 37 years of waiting, is something only those of us who first saw SW in the theater in 1977 can truly feel the depth of. It goes beyond words. Bless you, Jon & Dave!!
I didn't want to have my hopes crushed so i held my breath up until the veil reveal and now I'm at peace. Thank God for Dave and Jon. There is still hope
Full-grown men and women cried cheers of joy. That feeling we all had as kids that was taken away from us in the most recent trilogy has been restored.
Favreau and Fioloni are fans just like us. They wanted Luke to go full Jedi in movies just as we did. Those two along with all their staff have saved Star Wars.

Your Luke Skywalker? Did you know that George Lucas himself in his sequel trilogy outline had Luke go into exile and hide away? The sequel followed Lucas' vision for HIS Star Wars creation.
Yes, Luke got his redemption after 37 years and we finally saw a bad ass Luke Skywalker. That's how we always wanted to see Luke. Not the Luke we saw in the new trilogy. Thanks Dave and Jon. Yoda trained him to be a Master now he can train grogu to be a master. Wow what an episode. Thinking about it, I still get tears in my eyes. May the force be with you, always. What if they did Leia instead of Luke?

I say everyone throw out the last three movies and let these gentlemen fix what the witch destroyed.
Epic and historic season finale , this is the fucking way bro
I cried the same as you dude. It was the moment Disney paid all those millions for
This episode wrecked me. I sobbed for a good 15 minutes. I never knew my heart could be so filled with joy and sadness at the same time.
Sithfurion, you would stereotype him as a "manly man", cries more tears than anyone else, shows that he loves the franchise. Same, bro, watched it 5 times and cried everytime.
At the end of Return of the Jedi, Vader asks his son to help him remove his mask so he could look at his own son through his own eyes, and isn’t it poetic that Luke watches another father remove his mask so his son can see his face also!!!
Damn dude, I didn't even catch that one. Heavy stuff.
Let me look on you with my own eyes.
One of the best parallels in this series
Isn't it poetic that no one knows the last time Mando had his face touched?
This was the send off for Luke that those damn awful films didn't give us.
@@Killerkwoi13 Already sounds like a better plot than Episode 7, 8 and 9 combined.
Waited so long to see post RotJ Luke, this was glorious.
Luke is in battlefront 2 too
Yes finally and that scene where he fights the robots is a also similar to Darth vader against the troops in Rogue one...
It was awesome to see him in his prime, and they handled it perfect, just a glimpse
People are so emotional about Luke because they're able, at least for a bit, to forget about his character assassination in TLJ and find some closure. We saw Luke as he was supposed to be. Not a loser hermit who tried to murder his nephew like a coward. Hope LucasFilm understands that.
this ^
A loser hermit like Yoda in Dagobah and Obi-Wan on Tatooine you mean?
@@j.f.l.bousquet1998 Had they not saved themselves, there would be an untrained luke against Vader. Yoda and Obi-Wan were the characters we loved even in hiding because they were well written.
Wasnt just luke.. he almost broke down when R2 arrived as well. Lol loved it.. (true fan)
Seriously. I can can see another from a far. I’m closing “reaction” vids as soon as I see they aren’t fans.
37 years to finally see luke again im crying
38 years old and it hit me pretty hard. I grew up watching to Original (original original) Trilogy on VHS.
I wish I could see my Dads face whenever he gets around to watching the Mandalorian, he was one of those kids that repeatedly watched A New Hope in the theater.
I'm going to pretend the sequel trilogy never happened and this Mandalorian timeline is just unfolding. That's my head canon.
Thats a pretty good way to think about it honestly. Might as well do the same.
I have been doing that since TROS failed miserably to redeem those damned trilogy movies.
I don’t know wtf a Kylo Ren is......
Ashoka will Use the world between worlds to erase the sequel trilogy.
Same here
Luke: "Talent without training is nothing."
Sequel trilogy: "mm wat"
The shade by Jon and Dave is real and I love it.
@@raqrod1606 Well said!
Haha! They will need some aloe after watching this episode.
Phj223 I think that was a dig at the new star wars movies
Nice jab at those ridiculous movies.
"Every Friday morning feels like christmas" well this episode was like christmas everyday for a year😂
I'm glad they acknowledged the fact that Millions died on the death-stars
True that. The only time I've ever seen that on film was in Clerks.
something that is often forgotten. and i love that they mentioned it that the rebels were not all good.
...and the Empire killed 2 billion on Alderran.
@@darthracer777 I'm not arguing I'm just saying atrocities were committed on both sides
I honestly thought we were going to see Sebastian Stan when he pulled down his hood. Either way, I was in awe and shock to see Luke.
Sebastian Stan, I'm pretty sure, was probably busy with the Winter Soldier/Falcon production coming out. I'm glad they just CGI'd Mark Hamill instead. I'm not ready to see anyone else play adult Luke Skywalker.
@@thegorn68 Sebastian Stan is a good actor but no one will ever be able to play a better Luke Skywalker than Mark Hamill.
Same here.
To be completely honest, because I was still teary eyed as hell, I was convinced for the first moments that it was Sebastian Stan. Only when I read the credits that it was Mark himself, I realized my folly lol that was impressive. Most impressive.
Love how you were cursing at the show for bringing too much happiness 😂
Man this is the closest to how I felt. Once I saw the lone Xwing my eyes started tearing up and I screamed NO! Over and over at my tv. Then the green light saber and I was a pile of snot and tears. I bawled loudly for like 20 mins. It was such an incredible moment not just for us Star Wars fans but just when you think of how awful this year has been and to be given a gift like that was just totally overwhelming. I still cry everytime I watch it
That is why I keep returning to this to see what might have been.
"Talent without training is nothing"
Shots fired at Rey LOL
but... but... Rey had trained too...(for a couple of seconds, just wildly flailing the lightsaber) LOL
Rey received no hands on training from a Master. She has the sacred texts, so she just going to self-study? Homeschool herself? SMH.
@@DornishQueen Does she even need the books? Five minutes after discovering the Force might be a thing she was Jedi mind tricking people.
@@HaleFire7
Lets just assume she had great natural connection with the force but wasnt the best combat wise.. 🤷♂️
@@HaleFire7 there's nothing that says she can't continue with training from a force ghost either. Perhaps training is not the right word. Rey is obviously powerful. It would be nice if she had a mentor though.
R2D2 seems to know Grogu, he could've been involved saving him at the Jedi Temple.
I think you're on to something. 🤔
Good point
instant connection betwen a toddler and a puppy ^^
R2 could’ve possibly been the one that took grogu from the temple
@@dogedoge2026 - That is what this comment said. 🤦🏼♂️
This Ep should be called " How to throw 3 movies in the trash in 48 minutes "
More like 10 minutes
@@damonsmallwood365 They should do exactly that...
Why is this Kennedy lady's name even mentioned here?! She had nothing to do with this! NO way! Get her name the hell off of it!

Dark Trooper puts its hand on Luke's shoulder like, "Wait, Bro. Why the hostility? I'm a big fan of your work."
Luke: Stop your mopin’
This continues to be the best reaction ❤️
Facts
100%
I keep coming back to it to feel the feels
Agreed of all the reactions this one reminds me most of how I felt when I first watched this
I could not believe it when I saw him, felt like a child again. Love this show
Mando taking off his helmet during his goodbye is what did me in. I wept like a baby, no lie.
Same..I fucking lost it right there! lol
This is the way...
Brother, I am right there with you. I was a 40 year old man, alone, sobbing over Star Wars at 3 am.....no, scratch that. I was a kid in a galaxy far, far, away again.
"Now we got them two saying goodbye as well. Fuck this episode." lol. Fair play dude.
I was in shock when I saw the black robes a was like they brought Luke here
More like relief tears, like we had our hero ripped to pices in those damned sequels and now we have it again, as we wanted to see him.
This episode ripped my heart out of my chest but also gave me so much joy at the same time. Been hours and I’m still crying.
How many "fucks" of joy can be said over a single episode?
I didn't want to have my hopes crushed so i held my breath up until the veil reveal and now I'm at peace.
Thank God for Dave and Jon. There is still hope
Right when that X-Wing was landing in the landing bay, I had that same epiphany. After that, it was an emotional rollercoaster!
Full-grown men and women cried cheers of joy. That feeling we all had as kids that was taken away from us in the most recent trilogy has been restored.
It's ok bro...this was a kiss in our souls...the souls of the real old school true Star Wars fans...i couldn't stop crying as well...
SithFurion: (Holding back tears)
R2D2: Open the flood gates!
Favreau and Fioloni are fans just like us. They wanted Luke to go full Jedi in movies just as we did. Those two along with all their staff have saved Star Wars.
God damn it, I'm crying all over again.
Same. Dammit!
This has to be the best genuine reaction on RUclips.
You're the best Sith!
Gods, this episode got me SO emotional. I felt like a kid, watching RotJ again for the first time. This is my new favorite episode. I have been re-watching the movies again, in chronological order, so I been riding that Mando high for a few hours now😂. Great reaction! Also, seeing the X-wing, I was like the Republic and then whammo! OMGIT'SLUKESKYWALKER!!!! I was done after that. AND R2D2!!
It both redeemed Star Wars for me and turned me into a kid again! Tears of joy!
Absolutely love how EVERYONES ears perk up when they hear R2D2
I feel you buddy. I'm 51 years old. I was 8 in '77.
Dad took my brother and me and I remember every second of that afternoon.
This episode was awesome in many different ways.
One of the most heartwarming reaction I´ve seen for this episode.
There's a good chunk of The Clone Wars that was focused around the Darksaber and the leader of Mandalore. It is a known rule and has been fleshed out before.
Yeah but Sabine just gave it to her in Rebels
@@sparkz5036 Yes and then she failed spectacularly. It's not farfetched that now she thinks maybe her not following the rules might have been part of that. She did feel like she didn't earn it when she took it from Sabine.
@@donemu9096 That would be a good interpretation. That was the only (nitpicky) negative thing nagging at me after seeing the episode. Thanks for a good way to think of it.
@@donemu9096 Now that makes a lot of sense
@@folcotook3049 Sabine is the rightful owner and there is witnesses to that duel so probably that's why she can't bring the clans together. Also my other nitpick about this episode is (aside from CGI Luke) no one ask Luke who he is or where he takes Grogu. Come on now, is there no one care about this child?
Kudos to this man publicly portraying how all of us guys reacted!!!
This is by far my favorite reaction. Thank you for sharing, and I don't know a single person who didn't feel the same. Thank you so much for being honest.
We should give props to everyone involved in the production for keeping their mouth shut and being leak proof, giving us all this surprise.
I even thought it was Ahsoka at first because of the black and white monitors, it didn't even occur to me at first.
Man... Watching all these fans reacting to this and crying just means something! Pay atention Disney, and don't fuck up again!
Sith said, 'F*** this episode!'😄. I feel you.😩😭😭
I'm 48 and I'm not ashamed to admit, I cried, like a big baby, I was robbed by the sequels, completely betrayed and didn't get my Luke Skywalker but Jake, this is what I wanted and I have hope again in Star Wars. This was beautiful. See Disney, how hard was this?
I would love an intro for Leia like this but we would need a whole backstory of training etc. it had to be Luke.
Galaxy is saved , Thank you Jon Favreau, New hope has a new meaning now.. when i saw Luke i felt like i was a kid again watching for the first time episode 4 ... Emotions are positively overwhelming, Justice has been done, we waited so many years for this
big props for no edit. i've been watching reaction videos to when the single x-wing arrives and it STILL brings tears to my eyes.
I've watched this video 4 times now, and seen your reaction in a handful of other's compilations videos. This was the 1st time I didn't get teary thinking about your upcoming teary reaction. I DID get teary as you got teary still. This is such a genuine Star Wars reaction!
The men tears for the Stars Wars franchise have been heart warming 🤗. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have been cooking in the kitchen and they made a delicious gumbo and Luke Skywalker was the cherry on top.
Well all reverted to little boys watching our childhood Hero return. The Force was strong with "The Rescue".
Mmmm… Gumbo.
Dammit now I’m hungry!
Gumbo with cherries? Ick.
I cried too my friend. I cried too. 30+ years I waited to see this again. The tiny child in me came back out with joy.
Countless tears have been shed in the last few hours. Overwhelming tears of excitement, disbelief, sadness. So many things happening at once. And such a bittersweet feeling in the end.
Can you believe they kept this a secret all this time? Amazing.😱
Looking at all these reactions. Didn't Disney realize that this is what the audience wants? Not the milk drinking bitter uncle.
Yep. We wanted Rey "Skywalker," zombie Palpatine, Tie fighters with warp drive, and Chewbacca getting a medal.
Dins character arc is so profound. Going from a staunch mandalorian toa father figure symbolised in a simple act of showing his face... had me in tears
Right in the feels. We have bin waiting so many years for this moment. I feel you :)
Brother, i love the raw emotion you show. A gentleman like myself who looks big and macho and gruff but can emote with the best of them. I take my hat off to you. One of my favorite reactors.
This is still in my top 3 favorite reactions of all time. May the force be with you.
