I'm so glad the studio made the right call, and ended the whole series after Home Alone 2! Two great movies that can never be replicated. Imagine if they had milked the series to death lol

Brenda Fricker had a lot of reasons for not appearing in much after the early 90s. All of which very tragic including over 5 miscarriages and kidney removal. Living legend
His screams in general are fucking hilarious lol. Whether it’s with the tarantula on his face, getting electrocuted, or getting ambushed by pigeons, it’s all amazing lol
I actually like this movie more than the original just because of the additional secondary characters like Rob Schneider and Tim Curry. The filthy animals scene with the "We love you!" quote is super frikkin hillarious!!!!

It's so nice to see Tim Curry's incredible performance getting some recognition! I really laugh and also really feel for him when he's slapped in front of everybody and is hurt and utterly humiliated. His lip quivers and he's really fighting back tears. Such an incredible embellishment on Tim Curry's behalf! In fact, all the ancillary actors have so much damn fun in these films and it really shows. I will never tire of them.
This movie deserves more love, thank you, Chris. In my opinion it is on the same level as the first one, and it is also very quotable. Tim Curry is the best thing that happened to this movie. Home Alone 2 has always been my go to example of an underrated sequel. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I definitely think that LINY is on par with the first, it’s really neck and neck between the two. I don’t really mind it being similar to the first because the sequel really makes it stand out by making the stakes bigger and the finale much more enjoyable. Although it is arguable between which is the best, I definitely think that LINY is much funnier than the first. I mean the hotel staff, the bird lady, the final showdown and of course, the scene in the toy store with Mr. Duncan. This movie definitely has its moments that deserve recognition on their own without being overshadowed by the first. I simply love this movie

Tim Curry is having so much fun it’s kind of adorable, I laugh at basic everything he does. I loved this film as a kid too, and when I would be in the shower and someone knocked on the door, I’d quote the film! Good memories!

Home Alone 2 is part of my childhood more then then first one. I love all the gag traps and humor and Tim Curry is just an amazing gift in anything he's in. Marv and Harry are so good together. They really do work so well together as actors
This movie certainly isn't the first one, but it's not bad by any means. And Harry and Marv getting hit with the steel beam is my favorite trap across both movies.

The scene where Kevin talks about his skates as a metaphor for why Pigeon Lady should avoid being a recluse always brings tears to my eyes, its one of my favorite scenes in all of cinema because of how wholesome the scene is and for some reason it just tugs on my heartstrings more than it should. Something else that makes the home alone movies so good particularly this one is the music. They literally have every Christmas banger packed in and they all tie into what’s going on in the movie perfectly.

Being like one of the 4 people named after Macaulay Culkin I always feel he was robbed of recognition for this amazing sequel. Unlike the hangover sequels this one actually makes everything better, the Jokes, the stunts and even the heart they upped the anti and I loved it
The Home Alone movies alongside Elf and Jingle All The Way are Christmas movies I can never miss on watching for the holidays. Seriously, hands down one of the best films to get into the holiday spirit👏🏻

I was working at a movie theater when this came out and it was fun to watch the kids laugh hysterically at the funny parts you knew were coming. It was actually fun working during the Christmas season, I didn’t mind the big crowds and everyone was usually in a happier mood than normal. Great movie.
Brenda Fricker actually won the Academy Award for My Left Foot! Home Alone 2 is such a good movie! Lots of nostalgia and I agree, Tim Curry steals the show!
The whole scene with the gangster talking and it throws off the hotel staff is the most hilarious scene in any comedy. Tim Curry is the MVP of the film.
I didn't expect the mother to slap him in the face the first time I saw this...I would've had a her arrested for assault. If u really think about it Kevin was the idiot as far as the whole situation with the credit card. It was his father's credit card and he took it without him knowing to check into the hotel. None of that was Tim Currys fault or the very young Rob Scneiders who played the Bellhop. Eventually at the end of the movie Rob Schneider delivers the room service bill to Buzz who answers the door which Kevin had under his father's name and u hear his father yelling at him before the end credits roll...I wonder what happen to Kevin after that.
Frankly I prefer this a bit to the original. Feels a little more uneasy since Kevin is in a completely different state compared to before, has no home to protect himself and Harry and Marv are actively looking to get him. Just an all around solid sequel.
Even though this movie plot wise is similar to the first, it at the same time has a much bigger scale, it’s more violent with the traps and it warms my heart that Kevin is spending his christimas eve stopping Harry and Marv from robbing a toy shop that will donate to a children hospital. He didn’t have to do that but it really shows how kind he is. I honestly prefer it over the first
This movie was SOOOO much funnier than the first one, and the story was even MORE wholesome. But yes it was a complete copy from the first, which is the one reason u could say makes the first one the best, but lost in New York does everything better
I wouldn't say it's an exact copy. He is in another city and there is a lot more stuff and places to explore, and more characters put in like the hotel staff. It's basically the first movie but with more delightful toppings piled on.
I loved both films as a kid. It always got me in the Christmas spirit and mood. I showed part 1 to my 3rd grade students over Zoom last December, and I looped with the same students. Last week I showed them Home Alone 2 in person. It was nice, although admittedly my students were not as engaged. Glad you still love it, Chris! For me, I found this most recent viewing was a little lackluster for me. I definitely prefer Home Alone 1, but I think 2 is about as good as a sequel could be. Home Alone is perfect enough to be a standalone, but I understand the desire to make a sequel based on how popular part 1 was in 1990. 2 is definitely not without its various charms, but it’s missing that magical element the original one had.
“You can new with a lot of things, but you can’t mess with kids on Christmas” is such a great line. And then the freaking Theme pumps in and Kevin runs back to stop Harry and Marv. It’s so good
Home Alone 2 is my favorite…I’m 35 and still watch this movie couple of times a year. Also, I grew up in Puerto Rico…as I child, I had in my mind that the Christmas Spirit was like Home Alone 2. Amazing Christmas vibe!
Tim curry was always my favorite character from this movie. Followed by every single quote from this movie that I still use to this day pretty regularly
I will always love the second Home alone more than the first one. I grew up in a rural area and I always enjoyed seeing what Christmas was like in the City. Plus I swear there are more quotable moments in this movie than the first lol.

Chris Columbus seems to like deja vu sequels. Chamber of Secrets is also noted for being similar to Philosopher's Stone. Renny Harlin's Die Hard 2 took the same approach as well.
I absolutely love this movie as well as the original. The scene where Marv got covered in bird seed and screamed still makes me cry with laughter now. I’m in my 30s and it’s such a throwback to younger times when life was more simple 🙌🏻
that skeleton scene is one of the funniest things i have ever seen in my life. i remember rewinding my VCR countless of times in tears from laughing at it.
My wife and I watched this movie last week. As a kid I never noticed how degrading or toxic his family is to him. My wife and I wanted to give Kevin a big ole hug. Both of these home alone movies are funny and will be family watching for years to come.
One element that I love in this film that I don't see anyone talking about is Kevin's motivations in fighting Harry and Marv. In the first film, it's just straight up defense. They're breaking into his house, and he is trying to stop them. However, in this movie he goes out of his way to engage them because they're stealing money that is going to be donated to a children's hospital. It doesn't threaten or affect him, and he could've just walked away and let it happen, but his arc drives him to seek redemption by doing the best deed he can do on Christmas Eve: stopping them from stealing from sick kids. I don't know, something about making the climax driven by altruism makes it feel so much more righteous.

A really underrated part of home alone 1 and 2 is the John Williams music. “Setting the trap” makes me wanna booby trap my entire house to kill burglars.
It's Carol of the Bells meets Mission: Impossible. Only John Williams would think of something that awesome. Oh, and Somewhere in My Memory is one of his best pieces ever.
I guess the original score on the first movie was not working out, and at the last minute the director kind of jokingly said "wouldn't it be great if we could get like John Williams?" So they sent him the script and John Williams liked the movie so much, he agreed to score it.
I tend to agree with the Flick Pick in regards to Home Alone 1 and 2! They’re both amongst my favorite movies, but I think the first is slightly “better” while the second is more “rewatchable.” Watched Lost in New York again on Christmas Eve with my brothers and my older brother’s girlfriend, and it was truly magical. I meet Macaulay Culkin back in 2019 and I told him "I really appreciated what you did for Home Alone and X-Mas making the Holidays funny and entertaining" respect for him, turning his life around.
The first Home Alone movie is the best of the two. Its a timeless classic that is balanced, well-paced and directed. Certainly legendary status across all other Christmas movies. Home Alone 2 is great and very enjoyable, and it does have some parts that are funnier than the first. It also has my guy Tim Curry!
Even know the original Home Alone is superior but I swear I watch the sequel more than the previous movie. As a kid I always wanted a Talkboy, have a penthouse in The Plaza Hotel, go to Duncan's Toy Chest for all the toys, room service full of desserts, and ride a limo watching TV while eating a lovely cheese pizza and it was a kids dream when watching the movie.
The original idea of Home Alone 3 is to follow teenage Kevin McCallister, I think Kevin would attend Shermer High School because Home Alone is a John Hughes movie. That is such a great idea! Originally, Home Alone 2 and 3 were going to be filmed back to back like Back to the Future 2 and 3.
I love Home Alone and Home Alone 2 equally even though they are extremely similar. Fun fact though is that Macaulay Culkin got paid $100k for the first movie , but was paid $4.5 million for Home Alone 2. It all has do with the success the first movie had. Still one of the highest salaries for a child actor.
I didn’t really like this movie back when I was a kid because, as Chris mentioned, it was a beat for beat remake and not as good. Now I’m 40 and I fucking LOVE it, especially Tim Curry. Watched it three times this month.

Thanks for giving Tim Curry the recognition he deserves. As a child of the 80s and 90s he was always a favorite. He always played the villain but you could tell that in real life he was just an awesome guy. One of my favorite parts of this movie is when he smiles and they compare his smile to the Grinch's.
Despite it being literally the same as the first movie at its base, it's still just so good, enjoyable and funny. I slightly prefer this to the first one, as I just thought this was a bigger and slightly more exaggerated version of the first one when I was a kid, and I still do. It works so well, god I love these two movies. But I would rather drink molten lava than watch the other sequels

I was OBSESSED with both 1 and 2. When 2 came out I was HYPED! I had all the talkboy things, which didn't really work like the movie one so that was gone after a few months. I had a moment in New York when my dad was there for schooling and brought me and my mom with him. We had a limo to go around town (we were outside the city) and because it was "New York" and a limo, my mom got pizza to go with the limo. I was so embarrassed because I was turning into a teenager around that time, but I remember it fondly now, lol.
The sound effect Marv makes when he falls through the gigantic hole in the floor has me in stitches every time I watch it and it's just as funny as his scream. I don't how he didn't see the hole number one but hey it's a movie and it's fun slapstick. "WOW..WWHAT A HOLE."
I also still have my talkboy!! From yearsssss ago, and it still works!! Still have the first cassette tape I used for it, it's got my grandma on it and others that has passed away since then. But I could always turn it on and hear my grandma's voice!!
I know it's pretty much a beat for beat remake, but I don't care, I love it. It has so much charm, New York is a brilliant setting and the performances are great across the board. It's a perfect Christmas movie!
I've always liked this movie more than the 1st. Culkin was at the peak of his likability here, the New York setting is awesome, the soundtrack is great, and it just has an incredible Christmas feel to it.

My teacher gave 3 sentences to the first kid and they whispered it into the ear of the next kid ... The message was extremely different once it got to the end. There's a scene in there where they juxtapose an image of him smiling with the cartoon Grinch. It's a wonder he never played the Grinch.

The scene where Kevin talks about his skates as a metaphor for why Pigeon Lady should avoid being a recluse always brings tears to my eyes, its one of my favorite scenes in all of cinema because of how wholesome the scene is and for some reason it just tugs on my heartstrings more than it should.

I just finished my yearly Christmas rewatch of this movie and I wanted to look up your review of it and luckily you just uploaded it today.
Something else that makes the home alone movies so good particularly this one is the music. They literally have every Christmas banger packed in and they all tie into what’s going on in the movie perfectly.
True. Pretty much 60% of my Christmas playlist consists of songs I discovered from watching these films.
Home Alone 2 is my favourite Christmas movie of all time. Your impersonations are surprisingly good. And your pure joy and nostalgia is infectious. Now I can't wait to see this film again! I try to see it every Christmas, but it doesn't always happen. I'mma watch it tomorrow!
Being like one of the 4 people named after Macaulay Culkin I always feel he was robbed of recognition for this amazing sequel. Unlike the hangover sequels this one actually makes everything better, the Jokes, the stunts and even the heart they upped the anti and I loved it

Home Alone 2 really did feel like a perfect sequel in many ways. It did something new while staying close to what we love from the first.

The Home Alone movies alongside Elf and Jingle All The Way are Christmas movies I can never miss on watching for the holidays. Seriously, hands down one of the best films to get into the holiday spirit👏🏻
Jingle all the way is a truly awful film… but every Christmas I seem to be drawn to it. It isn’t Christmas til Arnie tells his next door neighbour to put that cookie down!
I was working at a movie theater when this came out and it was fun to watch the kids laugh hysterically at the funny parts you knew were coming. It was actually fun working during the Christmas season, I didn’t mind the big crowds and everyone was usually in a happier mood than normal. Great movie.

The whole scene with the gangster talking and it throws off the hotel staff is the most hilarious scene in any comedy. Tim Curry is the MVP of the film.
I didn't expect the mother to slap him in the face the first time I saw this...I would've had a her arrested for assault. If u really think about it Kevin was the idiot as far as the whole situation with the credit card. It was his father's credit card and he took it without him knowing to check into the hotel. None of that was Tim Currys fault or the very young Rob Scneiders who played the Bellhop. Eventually at the end of the movie Rob Schneider delivers the room service bill to Buzz who answers the door which Kevin had under his father's name and u hear his father yelling at him before the end credits roll...I wonder what happen to Kevin after that.
I laugh my ass off when the gangster in the film says the name of one of the employees!

Frankly I prefer this a bit to the original. Feels a little more uneasy since Kevin is in a completely different state compared to before, has no home to protect himself and Harry and Marv are actively looking to get him. Just an all around solid sequel.
Even though this movie plot wise is similar to the first, it at the same time has a much bigger scale, it’s more violent with the traps and it warms my heart that Kevin is spending his christimas eve stopping Harry and Marv from robbing a toy shop that will donate to a children hospital. He didn’t have to do that but it really shows how kind he is. I honestly prefer it over the first
This movie was SOOOO much funnier than the first one, and the story was even MORE wholesome. But yes it was a complete copy from the first, which is the one reason u could say makes the first one the best, but lost in New York does everything better

I wouldn't say it's an exact copy. He is in another city and there is a lot more stuff and places to explore, and more characters put in like the hotel staff. It's basically the first movie but with more delightful toppings piled on.

I marginally like Home Alone 2 more than Home Alone. Both are excellent films and a must watch during this time of the year.

Tim Curry was amazing. His facial expressions after he get slapped in the face is forever in my memory.
I loved both films as a kid. It always got me in the Christmas spirit and mood. I showed part 1 to my 3rd grade students over Zoom last December, and I looped with the same students. Last week I showed them Home Alone 2 in person. It was nice, although admittedly my students were not as engaged.
Glad you still love it, Chris! For me, I found this most recent viewing was a little lackluster for me. I definitely prefer Home Alone 1, but I think 2 is about as good as a sequel could be. Home Alone is perfect enough to be a standalone, but I understand the desire to make a sequel based on how popular part 1 was in 1990. 2 is definitely not without its various charms, but it’s missing that magical element the original one had.
“You can new with a lot of things, but you can’t mess with kids on Christmas” is such a great line. And then the freaking Theme pumps in and Kevin runs back to stop Harry and Marv. It’s so good

Home Alone 2 is my favorite…I’m 35 and still watch this movie couple of times a year. Also, I grew up in Puerto Rico…as I child, I had in my mind that the Christmas Spirit was like Home Alone 2. Amazing Christmas vibe!
I love that in the first first movie Buzz was a complete idiot but in this he's significantly smarter, showing growth
Tim curry was always my favorite character from this movie. Followed by every single quote from this movie that I still use to this day pretty regularly
I will always love the second Home alone more than the first one. I grew up in a rural area and I always enjoyed seeing what Christmas was like in the City. Plus I swear there are more quotable moments in this movie than the first lol.

I feel exactly the same about this film, I watch it every year and like it as much as the first. It’s the first film plus more! One of the cases where that actually worked in a sequel. Plus Tim Curry is amazing! I love the way he says Pizza!
I remember having a VHS copy and rewinding to see Daniel Stern fall down a floor over and over again. Excellent laughter for hours on end.
Chris Columbus seems to like deja vu sequels. Chamber of Secrets is also noted for being similar to Philosopher's Stone. Renny Harlin's Die Hard 2 took the same approach as well.

I absolutely love this movie as well as the original. The scene where Marv got covered in bird seed and screamed still makes me cry with laughter now. I’m in my 30s and it’s such a throwback to younger times when life was more simple 🙌🏻
that skeleton scene is one of the funniest things i have ever seen in my life. i remember rewinding my VCR countless of times in tears from laughing at it.
Watching this video in bed before going to sleep on Christmas Eve put such a huge smile on my face, merry Christmas Chris!

My wife and I watched this movie last week. As a kid I never noticed how degrading or toxic his family is to him. My wife and I wanted to give Kevin a big ole hug.
Both of these home alone movies are funny and will be family watching for years to come.
One element that I love in this film that I don't see anyone talking about is Kevin's motivations in fighting Harry and Marv. In the first film, it's just straight up defense. They're breaking into his house, and he is trying to stop them. However, in this movie he goes out of his way to engage them because they're stealing money that is going to be donated to a children's hospital. It doesn't threaten or affect him, and he could've just walked away and let it happen, but his arc drives him to seek redemption by doing the best deed he can do on Christmas Eve: stopping them from stealing from sick kids. I don't know, something about making the climax driven by altruism makes it feel so much more righteous.

A really underrated part of home alone 1 and 2 is the John Williams music.
“Setting the trap” makes me wanna booby trap my entire house to kill burglars.
It's Carol of the Bells meets Mission: Impossible. Only John Williams would think of something that awesome. Oh, and Somewhere in My Memory is one of his best pieces ever.
I guess the original score on the first movie was not working out, and at the last minute the director kind of jokingly said "wouldn't it be great if we could get like John Williams?" So they sent him the script and John Williams liked the movie so much, he agreed to score it.
I tend to agree with the Flick Pick in regards to Home Alone 1 and 2! They’re both amongst my favorite movies, but I think the first is slightly “better” while the second is more “rewatchable.” Watched Lost in New York again on Christmas Eve with my brothers and my older brother’s girlfriend, and it was truly magical. I love this movie. My grandmother passed away this year and I have so many memories of watching this with her.
I meet Macaulay Culkin back in 2019 and I told him "I really appreciated what you did for Home Alone and X-Mas making the Holidays funny and entertaining" respect for him, turning his life around.
The first Home Alone movie is the best of the two. Its a timeless classic that is balanced, well-paced and directed. Certainly legendary status across all other Christmas movies. Home Alone 2 is great and very enjoyable, and it does have some parts that are funnier than the first. It also has my guy Tim Curry!
Even know the original Home Alone is superior but I swear I watch the sequel more than the previous movie. As a kid I always wanted a Talkboy, have a penthouse in The Plaza Hotel, go to Duncan's Toy Chest for all the toys, room service full of desserts, and ride a limo watching TV while eating a lovely cheese pizza and it was a kids dream when watching the movie.
The original idea of Home Alone 3 is to follow teenage Kevin McCallister, I think Kevin would attend Shermer High School because Home Alone is a John Hughes movie. That is such a great idea! Originally, Home Alone 2 and 3 were going to be filmed back to back like Back to the Future 2 and 3.

I love Home Alone and Home Alone 2 equally even though they are extremely similar.
Fun fact though is that Macaulay Culkin got paid $100k for the first movie , but was paid $4.5 million for Home Alone 2. It all has do with the success the first movie had. Still one of the highest salaries for a child actor.

I didn’t really like this movie back when I was a kid because, as Chris mentioned, it was a beat for beat remake and not as good. Now I’m 40 and I fucking LOVE it, especially Tim Curry. Watched it three times this month.

Thanks for giving Tim Curry the recognition he deserves. As a child of the 80s and 90s he was always a favorite. He always played the villain but you could tell that in real life he was just an awesome guy. One of my favorite parts of this movie is when he smiles and they compare his smile to the Grinch's.

Despite it being literally the same as the first movie at its base, it's still just so good, enjoyable and funny. I slightly prefer this to the first one, as I just thought this was a bigger and slightly more exaggerated version of the first one when I was a kid, and I still do. It works so well, god I love these two movies. But I would rather drink molten lava than watch the other sequels

The fact that I was literally watching this today and that this video is posted a few hours ago is just perfect. Personally really liked this movie better than the first one
I was OBSESSED with both 1 and 2. When 2 came out I was HYPED! I had all the talkboy things, which didn't really work like the movie one so that was gone after a few months. I had a moment in New York when my dad was there for schooling and brought me and my mom with him. We had a limo to go around town (we were outside the city) and because it was "New York" and a limo, my mom got pizza to go with the limo. I was so embarrassed because I was turning into a teenager around that time, but I remember it fondly now, lol.
Tim Curry is really just unbelievably just hilarious , it’s just amazing, “limousine and a PIZZA”

The sound effect Marv makes when he falls through the gigantic hole in the floor has me in stitches every time I watch it and it's just as funny as his scream. I don't how he didn't see the hole number one but hey it's a movie and it's fun slapstick. "WOW..WWHAT A HOLE."

I also still have my talkboy!! From yearsssss ago, and it still works!! Still have the first cassette tape I used for it, it's got my grandma on it and others that has passed away since then. But I could always turn it on and hear my grandma's voice!!
I know it's pretty much a beat for beat remake, but I don't care, I love it. It has so much charm, New York is a brilliant setting and the performances are great across the board. It's a perfect Christmas movie!

I've always liked this movie more than the 1st. Culkin was at the peak of his likability here, the New York setting is awesome, the soundtrack is great, and it just has an incredible Christmas feel to it.

We did an experiment in my Biology class about how rumors start and spread using that method where one person relays a message until it gets to the last person in class. My teacher gave 3 sentences to the first kid and they whispered it into the ear of the next kid ... The message was extremely different once it got to the end. This was my freshman year of high school by the way ... 2001
