Agreed but the in game play was still fairly primitive even for its time. Good news is hard driving came out 2 years later which would elevate the driving sim to new heights.
That's a blast from the past. Thanks for posting this. I loved this game, the music for the car selection and pit stops have been burned into my memory for 20yrs... wicked. Anyone remember the first level you didn't have to steer... just hammer it and go dead straight; you wouldn't crash. Nice trick on the programmers part.

I remember playing this game on the first computer I ever laid hands on, I couldn't have been older than 7. I remember my dad telling me "you have to drive nicely, that way you wont crash the car". I ended up doing this for a while... lol Thanks for uploding the vid!! Great memories:D

This came with my Amiga 500 and was the only game I had for two whole months. Let's just say I knew those five tracks very well. I'm sure I could remember them even today! :-)

It was so hard because it was so choppy, you usually would control the car with a digital joystick and there was no way of gaging the bends. Don't get me wrong - I loved this game. It had barely anything to do with driving a real car, but it was the only thing we got. Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix then probably pushed it as far as you could go with the hardware at that time.
Back then I was craving for an Amiga 500. Graphics and performance was sooo good and superior. When I see how these games perform today, I wonder why I ever wanted an Amiga 😂 how fast times changed... mind blowing

though not the first 3D driving game, (which this isnt actually 3d) Test Drive is the first, First person Driving game with a serious intent behind it. Unlike other above view or parallax scrolling arcade racers of its day Test Drive is actually the longest running Racing title period. It could be consider the great great grandfather of modern day Test Drive unlimited 2. not to mention was the inspiration for later Road and Track Presents: The Need For Speed. which in itself spawned GT5

This game provided untold hours of fun gaming. Even though ti had limited amount of tracks and cars. You always tried for the best time possible and it was a great ride. I played it mostly on my then Atari ST and finished it eventually without any crashes and with good times. I continued playing it lol. My favourite was the Porsche with second favourite the Corvette. Great game, too bad most sequels turned out to be POS and not much to do with the gameplay of this one.
@@bjornna7767 I completely agree with you. The first NFS in particular felt like the proper sequel to the first TD game. Still among my top favorite racing games. :)

Played NFS on Dos via modem link on a 2nd 486 of a friend of mine back then. Was the tme when LAN was becoming a thing. Was also blown away by Road Rash. Unfortunately NFS2 was a real bummer.
@@bjornna7767 I played NFS all the way till about when Windows XP came out, then I had issues which didn't let me play the game properly. Thankfully eventually DOSBox arrived and solved that issue. Never played NFS multiplayer, in fact to this day the only racing games I remember playing multiplayer (online or offline) were Super Cars 2, the Lotus series, plus a couple more from the 16bit era on the Atari ST, Amiga and PC. The only relatively recent racing game I played multiplayer were Project Gotham Racing 3 on the Xbox 360 (another racing game I adore) and Split Second Velocity on the PC/PS3/PSP (again I love it). As for NFS2, I remember the huge disappointment I felt when I played it as it did not have that open road Test Drive feel to it and it was all about closed tracks. It ruined the game for me.

I also played PGR3 on Xbox360, was amazing back then and I also still play Split Second sometimes with my 9-year-old son. Yes, NFS2 lacked this feeling and felt artificial. I had this for my 500. Did you know you could "copy" the cars from the game and put them in the paint program? I used to stick them on pictures of mountains!
The sound between 3:05 and 4:25 is similiar to emitted by heavier diesel vehicles, like that time produced city bus Mercedes-Benz O405. The technology was not as primitive in comparison with the hardware possibilities, now it couldn't be naturally sold. Humorous steering wheel's centre with the abbreviation suggesting Turbo Diesel, not the game's title. ;-)
As a child when I played this, i liked the car selection the most exiting part of the game. Driving was too hard.. I prefer Stunts(video game) for my car simulation needs ::)
Yes, but while Stunts had better handling, they are diiferent games. ... here you are closer to real drive... stunts has easier handling, but the fun fact is building tracks and thge cameras
The only tires I stick to for Lamborghini's are GoodYear or Michelin Tires instead of Pirelli Tires are that they are my alternative preferences, even if they are real race like tires.
