Dave your granddaughter is so cute. It's wonderful that you include her in your activities. When we're all long gone and she is our age she'll remember the wonderful times she had with grandpa. Time is the most precious gift you can ever give to a child.
Dig the videos Dave really enjoy seeing somebody that enjoys alot of the older ways of life. We have become accustom to having so many simple luxeries. It does the soul good to get back to the basics every now and then.
Wow she sure has grown! I remember watching your videos way back when she was first born and you could hardly stay away from her! So precious Dave! Great video!
Greetings, First off I've always loved your channel. I have learned a lot off of you. I'm a retired Marine after 21 years, and in my last couple of years I was in, I taught them some of your ideas and ways,, SEMPER FI Matthew Schlosser
Finally a dish I wanna make in the cast iron pot my Momma gave me for my 'outdoor life' as she calls it. Lol Appreciate this video Dave! Gotta love the innocence and honesty of a child! Lol
Dave, Catching the little one is an excellent touch. I want to thank you for the well planned videos. The information is above and beyond, if this is the quality of your school I look forward to enrolling.
Layla Bug is a sweet heart, I have one two and her name is Baby Girl and untill now I never thought about going camping with her and my daughter. But I will now and I'm sure we will have memories. Great stuff and thanks
Thanks for sharing Dave. Its adorable that Layla wants to be with her pappy no matter what and im sure shes already picking up on many of the PF skills!
I like your little partner. My 9 yr. old daughter helps me when I do bushcraft stuff, it just mutiplys the fun by 10! My son is 3 and I can't wait to teach him.
This reminds me of my childhood in south africa. My mum had a potjie, basically a thick cast iron pot with a lid and 3 feet. You can throw anything in it and because it has feet, you control the heat by moving the coals or embers around underneath it. They are perfect for cooking on an outdoors fire.
Yeah you are a good dude Dave. Ive been dutch oven cooking since i was in the Scouts. My current one I got for Christmas probably 15-20 years ago. It never stays home from any campground trip..
Love the video! And I want to thank you for introducing your cute granddaughter to some bushcraft skills, never to young to learn! Looks like Pappy has a great side kick for the woods!
This reminds me of my childhood in south africa. My mum had a potjie, basically a thick cast iron pot with a lid and 3 feet. You can throw anything in it and because it has feet, you control the heat by moving the coals or embers around underneath it.
Funny, sweet video. I would follow my Dad around like that when we were camping and he was trying to fix something over the fire. He must have had 3-4 Dutch ovens!
Nice Dave! Good to see you out with the kid. Wish my dad was around when I was a kid to do these sort of things. He was a real outdoorsman but fell to the addiction of booze. Now I learn through these videos instead. So thanks for being a father figure of sorts!
This looks good. One of my faves is to throw an entire roast in a big pot, with the root veggies and fresh herbs, and let it sit on the edge of the fire all day mmmm
Ive used mixed , dehydrated vegetables and ,dried beef or jerkey jerkey beef, bring to a boil and keep warm till everything hydrates , ive a spice bag , Carry several peppers and several hot sauses , season for the mood that day
Dave your granddaughter is so cute, I also love that you explain how to make a fire just like you do to us. peace be with and have fun with what you're doin
Thank you for another great video! I have to say that red beans and rice are one of my favorite things to eat. I carry a freeze dried pack of it with me in my edc bag.....never know when I might need to stop and heat em up. :)
another good video Dave , your rice looked mighty tasty i'm gonna have to give it a try . keep putting up video's and i'll keep watching and learning new things
Love the video, cant say it is one of your most informative, but definately the most enjoyable to watch. Have you ever thought of doing a series with the little one? More over a series in which you have a small group that is totally dependant on you because they lack the skills & maturity, highlighting the added stress of survival and the progress of "bushcraft toddlers". It would be very helpful for the majority that are not able to "lone wolf" it & a reality check of it not being a cake walk.
Your assistant is adorable and will undoubtedly become proficient at wilderness self reliance. She's a lucky girl to have such expert tutelage. BTW that looks real tasty, lets eat.
I know this recipe will be good, it has CHOLULA in it !! Sure wish I had known about it in Nam, if anything could make C-rations taste better, it would be Cholula. I would have my wife send me a bottle every so often. Wouldn't want to hump many extra bottles though.
Alright 1st comment!! Let me just say i love thework you do dave Your a really big inspiration to me Cuz im only 14 but rely thanks for everything you do
Great to see how excited she is for the Outdoors... we need more kids wanting to be outside instead of being just on 'xbox' I bet we'll be seeing her doing videos on the pathfinder channel in future years! haha Really like how you get everyone enjoying the outdoors, need more role models like you! :)
Your cast iron looks very well seasoned, whats the process you use to keep it looking so nice? I oil mine up and let it get hot, and I never use soap to clean it.
It's a good thing Layla bug kept walking away or no one would have watched you. LOL nice fixings Dave, you made me hungry. Thanks I hope you all enjoyed it.
Do you ever use Toetinos product's? They have lots of things like beans and rice, gumbo, dirty rice and other great stuff that's just add water. Veggies and all in them and not a precise thing on liquid. Just about any meat works well in their products.
if that is zatarains i highly recommend the black beans and rice opposed to the red beans. the red beans dish they make is super bland. i have even packed it out of the woods because i couldn't bear to eat it. the black on the other hand is a staple at home and on the trail. btw: thanks for all the detailed vids!
It's great to see a Christian family doing it because we all need to see that being a Christian doesn't mean that you have to stop having fun, and so much of "the world" believes that you do. Also, it's good to see someone in the public eye profess Christ.
Dave I have watched many(probably all) of your videos! I must say I have learned a great deal from you. Thanks for what you do! I do leather work on the side when i'm not working, in the woods, or going to class. I always notice the pouch you wear on your side. It has my curiosity up, and I have to know what it is and who makes it? I haven't saw a video on it yet. I was wondering if you would mind doing a quick video on it for all of us?
Dave your granddaughter is so cute. It's wonderful that you include her in your activities. When we're all long gone and she is our age she'll remember the wonderful times she had with grandpa. Time is the most precious gift you can ever give to a child.
I love family time videos, these memories will last her a lifetime. This brought back some great memories of camping with my grandfather.
Aww.. that wave at the end was adorable! What a sweetheart she is!
your granddaughter is adorable
as much as I love watching your videos for the education value, these videos with Layla Bug are quickly becoming my favorite. Thanks for sharing.
Dig the videos Dave really enjoy seeing somebody that enjoys alot of the older ways of life. We have become accustom to having so many simple luxeries. It does the soul good to get back to the basics every now and then.
I need to brush up on my skills - "brush up" is an understatement. Your channel is my first subscription. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Wow she sure has grown! I remember watching your videos way back when she was first born and you could hardly stay away from her! So precious Dave! Great video!
She reminds me of my niece, can't help but smile when watching this.

Beef jerky and brown beans, a perfect combination.
if that is zatarains i highly recommend the black beans and rice opposed to the red beans. the red beans dish they make is super bland. i have even packed it out of the woods because i couldn't bear to eat it. the black on the other hand is a staple at home and on the trail. btw: thanks for all the detailed vids!
are the length of the tripod poles all the same or does the one that holds the other two need to be slightly longer?

Dave I have watched many(probably all) of your videos! I must say I have learned a great deal from you. Thanks for what you do! I do leather work on the side when i'm not working, in the woods, or going to class. I always notice the pouch you wear on your side.
