      I have one of these.. on my ebike and with Cush core and 37 PSI I have the rim out of round. I wasn’t as impressed with the wheel. I have had to have it trued 5 times so far and I have the strongest spokes in it as well. I am 240 and ride downhill very fast. So with out a tire I am sure I could destroy the rim in no time as I already have with a DH casing and Cush core and 37 PSI!

      What carbon rims do you ride?

    • @conman1395
      @conman1395 2 года назад +7

      If you're heavy, what you need is more spokes. The rim itself really isn't meant to give you strength.

    • @dit4963
      @dit4963 2 года назад +9

      Why have you even thought that? Carbon is stiffer, but not stronger given the type of impacts a rim takes. That stiffness might give a false impression of strength.
      IMO carbon rims are the biggest marketing success in biking to sell riders extremely expensive stuff they don't need. Next are carbon cranks.

    • @conman1395
      @conman1395 2 года назад +4

      @@dit4963 yield strength of carbon fiber is much higher. I don't know why you would think carbon isn't stronger. Carbon is also stronger on impacts too, as aluminum yields and bends/dents. Aluminum isn't stronger just because aluminum bends and carbon cracks

    • @dit4963
      @dit4963 2 года назад +5

      @@conman1395 Carbon fiber is not stronger on sharp impacts (plenty of sources for this). And not even extremely sharp. Look at Bernard Kerr's crash at Hardline in slow motion, the rim exploded even before the suspension bottomed out. Such impacts are business as usual for alu rims at the Fest Series or Rampage. And a bent or dented alu rim still works perfectly fine as long as it still holds air. My rear rim keeps adding dents and works perfectly fine. That is strength, defined as: still being able to fulfill its function. Meanwhile carbon fails catastrophically.

      ruclips.net/video/61BAyA3ozmo/видео.html I'd say this is a pretty close approximation to that. 1m to concrete, and jump to a sharp, steel edge. I suspect doing it on a hardtail brings the total force subjected to the rims close to (or above, although I'm not going to do the math) what a 240lb rider would do on a full suspension bike.

    To bad it's not in 26". These in 26" would (theoretically) be only 70 grams heavier than the rims I'm running on my street trials bike, and the ones I have right now are stiff, but they are soft and easy to dent. Wish I could get a set of these! I mean, DT Swiss builds custom 24" Street trials rims for Canyon, so why not just offer an existing rim in 26"? You'd get street riders, (dirt jumpers, too) and people with old 26" bikes buying your rims.

    after seeing this video I can't see a reason why people would still spend a thousand dollars for a carbon rim
    this looks like it will outlast me lol, and it costs less than a hundred euros wtf

    This looks very promising. But I am curious how it would do landing on a steel plate wall. I flatspotted a Hope Enduro 29 rim that way even with Cush Core, but I knew it would not be a miracle protection. Probably had top little pressure or tape gave out or had a puncture. But I increased the pressures to avoid it happening in the future. But I think the new Dt Swiss Fr 541 will be my next rims.
    I tried the brass nipples from Dt but they seem to round off and wear faster than Sapim those on the Hope wheels were great had them for years minimal wear. But DT Swiss did round off a bit after some truing. One did even during first install but was at the part inside the rim. But I know there are different types of brass. But so far Sapim nipples ar emy fav. The Dt spokes seem to do good still, but nipples could be better I guess. But so far only had them for few months. But the alloy nipples were usless, corroded and cracked. So went to brass. So my dream wheel would be Sapim nipples and spokes, Fr541 rims, now I know they are very robust, not sure on hubs yet. Currently habe 350 hubs with 54t ratchet. But want even higher engagement. Concidering Onyx, I9, Project 331.
