I have one of these.. on my ebike and with Cush core and 37 PSI I have the rim out of round. I wasn’t as impressed with the wheel. I have had to have it trued 5 times so far and I have the strongest spokes in it as well. I am 240 and ride downhill very fast. @@dit4963 yield strength of carbon fiber is much higher. I don't know why you would think carbon isn't stronger. Carbon is also stronger on impacts too, as aluminum yields and bends/dents. Aluminum isn't stronger just because aluminum bends and carbon cracks
@@conman1395 Carbon fiber is not stronger on sharp impacts (plenty of sources for this). And not even extremely sharp. Look at Bernard Kerr's crash at Hardline in slow motion, the rim exploded even before the suspension bottomed out. Such impacts are business as usual for alu rims at the Fest Series or Rampage. @Dan P that would be fascinating to see! Also, how would you re-tension the spokes - what will be the readings on the tensometer for, say, 5mm total runout
@Dan P, Ya I figured it was almost done, I just thought it would have been a great outro, fitting a tire on, filling it up and riding off. Still super impressive.
Them FR rims from DT can't be killed. Been riding a set of FR 1950s and have done everything from square edge hits with low pressures to big cases. Never had to true 'em. My body will break before those things. 😂
Can you do a "scientific" test comparing FR541 resistance to pinch flats?? Using various different tire casings etc? Comparing to other DT rims (560, EX511, etc.). Thanks
would be cool to see the same video with the fr541 rim but laced with berd spokes. That would prevent spoke bending and spoke pull through and basically eliminate spoke and nipple related issues.
I've had a set of ex471's since 2019, they've survived quite a lot of cases and hard drops. They're a little beat up, but straight as an arrow, and hold pressure even without sealant no problem. Dt Swiss seems to be a guarantee.
I’ve had a good wheel get more out of true on a decent set of Ibis aluminum rims which are pretty stiff. And they also were plenty true to still ride around no problem.
This is hilarious! LOL Thanks for the laughs while I'm stuck here at work! That said, I have one buddy who I think COULD kill that wheel. I'm going to send this to Davis now. 😆
Okay now I am convinced, one last wheel built and even better...I can get rid of these tire inserts. Even with the weight penalty of this rim, one Cushcore less saves me more than that
Cush Core saved rims from slamming rim into stairs but did not save my rim from 1m drop into steel plate wall. But not tried without in a long time, but the insert reuses the volume in the tyre, allowing lower pressure yet have support
It started to fail at 3:22 but you fixed it, lossen spokes is indeed part of the vibration effect on the rims. I have seen same test but did not retighten spokes.
fun seeing all these bham places on youtube! loved the vid The gopro really doesn't show how steep some of the hills are on the ebike follow cam either haha
Now I would like the same treatment for a WTB HTZ i35 rim. Sure it's heavier (718g at 27.5"), but 5mm wider and WTB claims that "HTZ is the most bombproof rim you can buy for your e-bike".
I like the DHF on the back too, rolls fast and slides nicely into corners. If you want absolut grip then go for an assegai and a DHR is in between. Wtb schwalbe continental michelin all make great tires. Depends on what casing and trail conditions
ruclips.net/video/61BAyA3ozmo/видео.html I'd say this is a pretty close approximation to that. 1m to concrete, and jump to a sharp, steel edge. I suspect doing it on a hardtail brings the total force subjected to the rims close to (or above, although I'm not going to do the math) what a 240lb rider would do on a full suspension bike. - Dan at Fanatik
Can you try this with Newman rims next please as seen these DT Swiss being put together on a machine in the German Cube factory last year! Yes I know their claimed to all be hand built but some know different! The ones that come on your new bike certainly are not! There being build along side the newman sl 30 wheel sets which I run and have never had an issue with there so stong!
To bad it's not in 26". These in 26" would (theoretically) be only 70 grams heavier than the rims I'm running on my street trials bike, and the ones I have right now are stiff, but they are soft and easy to dent. Wish I could get a set of these! I mean, DT Swiss builds custom 24" Street trials rims for Canyon, so why not just offer an existing rim in 26"? You'd get street riders, (dirt jumpers, too) and people with old 26" bikes buying your rims.
Yeah, I'm planning on building a custom NS Decade Dirt Jump bike next year, and these rims would be absolutely perfect for that purpose. Not insanely heavy, while keeping it's stiffness and resistance. It would be my first choice. Sadly it's not coming in 26"

So basically if you put a DH casing tire and an insert on that rim it will never give up on you, or break, ever?
i have managed to dent the old fr560 on my enduro bike. I was running tyre inserts + gravity casing tyres. idk how
tell us how much do you weigh?
Dented my fr 541 rim with a tyre inserts and dh casing. 6'2 200lbs.
It's going on my enduro bike on Saturday, just got a set built up with hope Pro 4s
