    SPOILERS IN DESCRIPTION!
    We took our Honda Clarity to Ohio on a Road Trip for the Holiday Weekend. We had a great time and got great mileage in our Honda Clarity PHEV. The Honda Clarity plugs in and runs on electricity for about 40-60 miles, and then uses gasoline very efficiently after that. We Tried to eat at a Pickle Bill's, but the wait was two hours. It looks awesome, and Connie highly recommends it. Check out Pickle Bill's here: www.picklebills.com
    SPOILERS: Of course, the reason we drove over 400 miles round trip was to sit in and drive a Tesla Model Y. We were super excited by the car, and very satisfied by the experience at the showroom. Customize your own Model Y and schedule Touchless Delivery here: www.tesla.com/modely
    The Honda Clarity now has 20,000 Miles. It has needed two oil changes, one tire rotation, one dealer appointment for a recall (free of charge), two annual state inspections, and one set of new tires. We went with the MasterCraft LSR Grand Touring 235/45/R18 for new Tires. They are affordable, and have a great ride compared to the OEM Michelins that come with it. They also come with a 70k mile tread wear warranty. Check out the MasterCraft LSR Grand Touring here: www.mastercrafttires.com/tire...
    We got some food at Mr. Hero, because Connie Used to Live in Ohio, and needed a little bit of local Nostalgia. Check out Mr Hero here: www.mrhero.com
    Our dinner was ultimately at TJ's on the Avenue. Service was fine. The atmosphere was fine. The food was reasonably priced, but don't expect anything impressive. Officially, I wouldn't not recommend it. Check them out here: tjsontheavenue.com

    I drive a tesla and I always hear that concern, "where are the charging stations?" but you know as a Clarity owner that you charge in your garage. It's just that people are so used to the weekly trip to a gas station that until they own an electric car, they don't realize that they will be full every morning.

    How many miles of EV driving do you think you can get on 70mph highway driving? My daily commute is 40 miles each way. I was hoping to get to work strictly on electricity. Do you think that is possible? Also, I live in flat and hot Louisiana!

    Why are you putting in premium fuel when regular is ok?

    • @Aslash304
      @Aslash304  3 года назад +1

      I agree with you 100%. Regular is okay. Premium is better. My parents owned a car that wouldn’t run right on regular. My 1991 Honda Accord didn’t idle the same on regular fuel. I am pretty sure it’s better fuel. And since it uses so little, I say why not. I hope this answered your question, and thank you for your comment.

      @@Aslash304 I think it is wasteful to use premium gas when the vehicle was engineered to run on regular. In a consumer notice, the Federal Trade Commission, notes: “In most cases, using a higher-octane gasoline than your owner's manual recommends offers absolutely no benefit. It won't make your car perform better, go faster, get better mileage or run cleaner.”Jan 11, 2020

    I have a question I noticed that the battery has 2 bars left and 0 miles on EV. Does the 2 bars for when you are in Hybrid mode? Does the car engine rev a lot when gas kicks in going up a hill or flat road? Thanks.

    • @Aslash304
      @Aslash304  3 года назад +1

      My guess is the 2 bars left on the battery would indicate that the car is still using the battery to run. The primary power source is the battery, so to run it to no power would render the car dead. I have another video entitled “Is the Honda Clarity too loud?” ( ruclips.net/video/L68y5rpew34/видео.html ) It should answer any other questions you have about the engine and it’s noise levels. Thank you for your comment.

      I own a clarity since 2018 and I love this car. The two bars with Zero EV range are because there is a battery reserve to protect the power train 17Kw/h battery from a deep discharge, so when you hit those two bars, the gas engine will kick in no matter there is still a little charge in the battery. Under a few conditions the car will go under two bars, and... will be annoying, because the engine will rev really high to rapidly charge the battery and the power will be limited (AKA by Clarity owners as "angry bees"). That´s why you should not drain your battery before an uphill road, or if you need to do high-speed interstate driving.

      @@D_M_W_ Thanks for the post. I have a question so let say I charged the car to full bar of EV range. I am planning to go on a 1,000 miles road trip and it is on HV mode would the battery for the EV range ever be depleted without the engine recharging the battery when I am not using EV mode at the beginning of my trip from the last full charge? Thanks.

    • @Aslash304

      If you ask it to, then yes it will. It’s called HV Charge mode. Very Inefficient, but it can be done. Best way to charge it is to use the plug.

      @@danieldayal2570 if you don’t use HV charge mode, it will keep you around 10-15% charged all the time. It will work like a conventional hybrid. Gas when you need it, EV when there’s enough charge to use it.

    So right now, I have a 2013 Elantra Limited that doesn't give me great fuel economy but drives/handles really well. I noticed that the 0-60 times for this car is extremely slow and even worse than my current car. I don't see a lot of incentives to buy this car when my cheap economical car is faster than this with less HP and torque

    • @Aslash304
      @Aslash304  3 года назад

      The most cost effective option is always to keep the car you have, especially if you like it. The Elantra is 14 inches shorter than the Clarity, so it’s expected that the performance would be better. Fuel economy for the Clarity runs north of 100mpg if you charge it regularly. The current federal tax incentive on a Clarity is $7500, plus any that your state might offer. Also, electric motors have no torque curve, an intangible benefit. A reliable, affordable A to B car is always a keeper. Thank you for your comment

    • @jerbsherb4391
      @jerbsherb4391 3 года назад +1

      @@Aslash304 Thanks for the reply. I really was attracted to this vehicle's federal incentive but I noticed the tax portion gets complicated. Right now, I am not working but I have the money to purchase it. What I learned was that you have to have tax liability of 7500 or you won't be able to take advantage of it. I feel like that is not emphasized on when people talk about the Federal EV incentive and it sucks.

    • @Aslash304
      @Aslash304  3 года назад

      @@jerbsherb4391 You are absolutely correct. The Max you can get as a refund is the total tax liability you had taken out for the year of purchase. I also wish this was communicated more effectively.

    • @cesarguerrero8976
      @cesarguerrero8976 3 года назад +1

      @Gaylord McGee I leased the Clarity and the $7500 tax credit is deducted from the lease payments making it about $300 month. It is really worth it if you don’t plan to buy the car.
      Another thing is that you’ll love the performance. I had a 2018 mazda 3 with about the same power as your Elantra and I could say the Clarity feels faster. The instant torque is great and you pick up speed very quickly. The 0-60 is 7.6s so not even that slow. It really zips around town.

    • @jerbsherb4391
      @jerbsherb4391 3 года назад

      @@cesarguerrero8976 I did a lot of research on this car since I made that comment. This car is very impressive and has a lot of high quality materials in it. Not to mention the interior being very quiet.
      What made me shy away from it was the tax incentive. Essentially, you have to have paid over 7500 in taxes for the year to qualify for the incentive. I hate the way it is even advertised. If you don't end up qualifying for the tax incentive, you are literally wasting so much money. I could buy a top end Accord for that price.
      I don't think it should depend on your taxes because if you aren't making a lot of money because you have a shitty job, why be penalized for going green? And if you are making enough money to afford it, are you even dependent on the tax incentive? Food for thought.

    Thanks for the look at highway eco, and the Tesla test drive too. Last refuel was 93 octane. Do you usually do high octane in Clarity? Also, did final mpg subtract out the EV (battery fueled) miles or just overall miles per/gallons of gas in your mpg#? Thanks again!!

    • @Aslash304
      @Aslash304  2 года назад

      Since I don’t know exactly how many miles I went on EV, it’s all just put together. I have never put anything in any car except premium/supreme/93 (whichever one you call it), unless It’s for work and I’m told not to. Does it help? I have literally no idea.
