My aunty had a brand new Mini back in the late 1960's, great little car providing you didn't venture out on a wet day that is! Windscreen leaked and it often stalled driving along in heavy rain and wouldn't start again. I think of Mr Bean every time I see one today...😄 The ladies on the sewing machines at 2.35 reminds me of a skit from "Harry & Paul".
@@frankiepitt9135 There were many factors that caused the industry to go broke, production method being the least of them. The onslaught of cheap modern Japanese imports, buyers perceiving Australian vehicles to be outdated, Government imposed design rules unique to Australia and Australia being a too small market place to sustain five car makers were the major factors that brought the industry down.
Why is that amazing? Holden, Chysler / Rootes, Australian Motor Industries had factories in Port Melboune less than 2 kilomeers from the cbd. And there were also Aircraft manufacturers replete with an airfield next to them as well.

My Dad visited the plant when he was an apprentice motor mechanic. He kept the original brochure which I still have.
Not Wolseley 1500, they are Austin Lancer's or Morris Major's, some other Wolseley's are shown i.e @5.39
Wonderful institution but easy to see why the industry went broke. Great video thank you.

It’s amazing that they had a car plant so close to the city. Only about 6ks from the CBD.

@@EVISEH and that is even more amazing when you look at how many suburbs are beyond them.
Yes I know that the cities were smaller then.
no masks in the spray booth, wow
