This is the finest fly fishing knot video I have ever seen. So often we are forced to extrapolate from looking AT the demonstrator rather than over his shoulder. The video is absolutely clear, the teacher is articulate, goes carefully step by step, and shows how easy this fantastic tool is to use. Many thanks and Bravo!
    Bravo!

Best knot tool I’ve ever seen. I have been using a paper clip to put the leader butt section on my fly lines. Not any more.
No more blood knots for me. Splicing in the field can be quite frustrating.

I bought this tie-fast with a bunch of knickknacks at an estate sale and had no idea what it was. Even though I'm an avid fisherman and I've lived in Alaska for 40 years. I agree with the other comments this might be the best naat video I've ever seen so pat yourself on the back because you did an awesome job on this video! Manic Beast Boise

This tool helps me greatly; I had a major wrist injury so my handshakes bad/little strength.
Before this tool It would take me about 25 minutes to tie a hook, but at that point I'm just
    frustrated with myself and leave.
Thank you very much for the tutorial

I have this tool and if you are watching this video and do not own one I highly suggest this tool. It makes tying anything a breeze and if you are far sighted as I am and have a hard time seeing line and so forth this is a MUST have device. I love it!

I got this tool today after seeing a person use it. It is INDISPENSABLE; not only for fly fishermen, but anyone who fishes. When my fingers get cold, it WAS nearly impossible for me to tie any kind of knots. This not only helps me tied them, when dexterity is compromised, it helps me to get BEAUTIFUL and strong knots.

What a great tool for creating very versatile knots. I like my knots to have two wraps in the eyelet so I start by putting the tag end through the eye twice then follow the rest of the instructions. What a great, super strong knot....... and so easy to tie!

I bought the Combo tool. Used it today to make 2 tapered leaders. Used it yesterday to spool my new reel with backing and fly line -- what a perfect way to do this operation! Making the leaders-- splicing 6 different weights of maxima was easy as could be-- though the 30 and 20 weight chameleon was just a tad more difficult to handle than the ultragreen. Just getting back into fly fishing, for the first time using my own gear :-)

Shipped from the states to the UK.....neat and very accurate tool. If I had to criticise it At all...the standard tool has two little prongs that stick out at the back of the tool that have left the palm of my hand sore. Maybe because I have been practicing all afternoon with it and Not had One failure ! Seriously tho it's brilliant and makes doing a knot a piece of cake. Now all I have to do is not forget to take it with me.

Me too, BIM. I actually bought my Tie-Fast tool from the inventor himself, at his shop in Chico California. Carried on my vest for over 10 years but never used it once. Then I watched this video, decided to try it, and it was sooo easy. My knot was perfect, the first time. Wow.

Have been using this little wonder for over twenty years now and have never had a knot failure. My old one does not include the hook sharpener, so just ordered two more of the new ones. The old instructions that came with it did not include a couple of the knots you showed in your video, so thanks for the tips.

HI Alan, I'm glad you bought one. About your question, well I never used the tool for tying braid actually. Braided leaders have a loop right, so I just tie a perfection loop on the tippet and slip it through and over.Regardless it should work. I would slip the braided end through the loops of flourocarbon, if I was going to tie a nail knot. You can use the tool to tie a duncan loop knot to attach the fly to your leader. It's especially good on windy days.
    Take care Neil

I sold lots of these working at Fishin' Hole putting line and backing on customers reels.
I demonstrated the tool which I carried on my keychain, and tied the knot in seconds for them. It's a great tool, makes tying the nail knot a breeze.

  • @s2perman

I use this all the time. Especially connecting braid to mono or braid to floro - back to back nail knots - one of the strongest knots out there, caught tarpon, red fish, wahoo, snook. Have to put more than 3 wraps - go 6 when your dealing with braid - just get the hang of it, it’s basic. I use the combo tool with the nail clippers to cut the mono or braid.

I bought one of these years ago, but I haven't been on the water in a few years and I thought now might be a good time to refresh my memory.
Do not attempt this on the water!
It's a rainy day, in a well lit kitchen, taking my time.
I just made a tapered sinking leader, with 3 different weights, and tied on a stonefly because, why not.
It really helps because it's the same knot, pretty much.
Only thing I'll say is that for a natural, free drifting dry fly, I'd stick with this other knot that has a loose loop that does not hold the fly too strongly in one aspect.
Of course, I can't really remember that not!
    Oh man!

I just spent about an hour trying to tie a blood not. I must have tried to tie that knot six or eight times, and still never got it. I got a reasonable facsimile, but not a blood knot. I bought this Tie-Knot tool at least twenty years or more ago, and never used it. (forgot how) After spotting this at the bottom of my tackle box, I got on this site and watched the video. The very first time I tried to tie a blood not....eureka.... a "nice" looking blood knot and "no" exasperation on my part.

Upon close examination of my single nail knots and nail knot splices, 8 out of 10 times the middle wraps overlap each other once transferred and tightened. Will this overlap cause a weaker knot? I've sat at my desk and tied this knot over and over. Still the same overlap happens.
