I had the pleasure of meeting Kim Carnes about 15 years ago. She was standing behind me in line at a small club in Nashville where she was appearing. I asked her why she was in line for her own show. She said she would have felt uncomfortable cutting the line. I couldn’t believe it. We started chatting and I told her I had a CD of hers with me and would she sign it after the show. She said sure. And after the show, she called me over, asked me to take a seat and she gave me her autograph and had a picture taken with me. We chatted again and asked me where I was from. I told her Chattanooga and she invited me to a future show of hers in Atlanta. She was so sweet. She is one of the most real, polite and unpretentious people in the industry. Love you Kim!
For as long as I live, I will never understand how this song failed to equal the success of "Bette Davis Eyes". It is a truly beautiful, emotive piece of musical art. I also adore the clip. The album it comes from is also absolutely superb, not a dud track on it. Kim deserved much better.
I guess it just wasn't in synch with what the mid-80s were about. Personally, I love it, and find the video very sweet. The "Lighthouse" album is absolutely great - "Along with the radio" and "Black and white" are possibly my two favorite Kim Carnes songs.
I just heard and seen this video for the first time!! Why have I never heard of this song before and never seen the video before???? I love Kim Carnes and her music!! This song and video is so beautiful and I can see that it's very underrated!!! Needs to be played on the radio often so that more and more people can hear it!!
This song takes me back to a time, at least in my life, where there wasn't a care in the world. I truly wish I could go back in time and relive the 80's.
I´m SO glad today! A great friend of mine gave "Light House" he bought in Japan! I´ve finally got all Kim´s CDs! Thanks a lot, dear... I just love Divided Hearts, Black and White and Piece of the Sky. Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.
Not a bad track, The chart position is a total insult though. It kinda beggars belief that after the success of Bette Davis Eyes spending 9 weeks @ No.1 US chart really putting Kim on the map that everything that came after didn`t really chart and I mean the songs were good, the production was amazing & Kim herself obviously put so much into everything. I think that the success of Bette Davis Eyes backfired on her because it was such a huge blockbuster hit with Kim's gravel voice putting her own unique stamp on it becoming the best selling single worldwide 1981 that she became trapped in the bubble of Bette Dais Eyes and couldn`t exist outside it. Its a pity because her voice was just utterly astonishing with tailor-made songs and production to complement it. 79 chart position is terrible cause this is a terrific infectious track that deserved to go top 20 at least.
I'm a big Kim Carnes fan and I agree with you, except she had six more US Top 40 pop chart hits after "Bette Davis Eyes." Yes, this great song should have been another.
Great song that deserved to do a lot better than it did. In fact it sounds like something that Sheena Easton, Anne Murray, Jennifer Rush, Kenny Rogers or Joan Armatrading would sing!
And by this point in time (1986) none of those artists would chart in the Top 40 ever again except Sheena Easton (and Rush in a duet with Elton John). As much as I like this song--which is a great deal (and the whole album for that matter)--it does not scream Top 40, c. 1986. I could see it charting AC perhaps at that time, but it does not surprise me that it failed to hit big on the Hot 100. Also, it's a little bit soft/unassuming in terms of a lead single. "Crazy in the Night" from the year before was a very smart choice for a lead single from the prior album, as it was immediately memorable--very much an attention grabber. BTW, I think the strongest song on this album is the last--"That's Where the Trouble Lies." It's smoky, sultry and tells a great story. One of my favorite Carnes tracks from her entire career..
….great song. I was sure it was going to be a hit!!! The video, however…..should have been better!!! I bet Kim could agree….. that middle section where she’s making a video within a video is bad….
I think this is a great song and it deserved much more airplay and success, like the Lighthouse album it came from. Having said that I do not like the video. Cannot imagine it did sales any good in the MTV era. The video is too cheesy and happy clappy in my opinion compared to the music.

What a great story. She has so many hidden gem songs that weren't hits like Rough edges, ect.

Man, I'm with you on this. How I long for simpler times, where music was actually music and worries were not so heavy on the world...
Happy Birthday to Kim Carnes! My her voice and her songs be with us forever! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil!
I love her voice 🤎
F-ing fabulous!!this has to have the biggest cast of any music video not counting audiences Sounds like a huge old hit recordGood time music
My Gosh! Thank you, YT. I saw this in the Filler Film in my childhood and I was wondering who sang it. I remember the chorus for decades! Nostalgic.
One of my all time favorite songs

One of Kim's best and least known. Thanks for the post!
Gr8 song.
The video is a bit 'will this do'.
Song composed by Kim Carnes, Collin Ellingson (Kim's oldest son), Kathy Kurasch and Grammy Winner Donna Weiss.
Karate Kid guy was there in 3:33

Hi. Can anybody who lives in Los Angeles downtown, tell us where exactly, this music video was filmed? Out there on the Los Angeles AMTRAK rails ?

I liked this song better than bette Davis eyes

Neil Degrasse Tyson has some moves on that stage.
