This is probably the only time I wouldn't mind buying a knock off. Because this is a last ditch defense tool. I doubt a solid chunk will snap.

It’s the lifetime sharpening and service that makes it worth it for me

@@My_Alchemical_Romance I get the service part for sure but I wouldn't mind replacing a couple cheapo socps for 15 a piece 😅 also. Sharpening by whetstone is best feeling

The cheap knockoff will do the same thing as the brand name. When you buy the name brand, you’re literally paying for the name and everything that comes with making that specialty knife. The minor differences in material and tiny specs are hardly noticeable when you need to use it

@@My_Alchemical_Romance I don’t really agree with that, but it’s your decision reason being as I could buy two of this knock off knife, for the price of one bench made easily possibly three and if I bought, the bench made purely for the sharpening service that means whenever it got dull, I would be boxing it up shipping it off to Ben that might take anywhere from a couple days a week depending on where you live then you have to figure bench me is probably at least gonna have a turnaround time with about a week and then maybe couple days a week for them to ship it back to you so essentially if we ship your knife off to have it sharpened you’re not gonna have your knife for anywhere two weeks to three weeks whereas you could just buy two of the knock off style knives, and if one gets dull, can have one basically acting as a standing until you get an hour or two of your own time to sharpen the one that you already dolled out then you can run the second knife you have until it gets and then swap it out and do that over and over and over again pretty much minimal downtime

@@user-yo9si2ee1x yep you make very good points about the sharpening service and being without part of your defense or edc system I can see why you might just have an extra one on go mode opposed to dropping the extra cash flow for a only slightly better steel and like you said the sharpening can be more of a hassle than benefit. All good points; I was under the impression that I could give it an edge sharpening wise; but once it’s down to the hilt; or, I fucked off the edge enough sharpening it that maybe once a year can send it in to be refinished and re ceracote; other than that; I would say you make all good points

    Possibly an unpopular opinion:
Benchmade charges WAY too much money for a 440C steel dagger with a plastic sheath and a belt clip. We as mankind have been using daggers and knives with rings in them for literally millennia. I don’t think any reasonable person would be able to competently argue that some other company making a dagger with a ring on the end, out of cheap steel and putting it in a plastic sheath with a belt clip on it would stand a good chance at copyright infringement…. Now if they are obviously copying the logo and claiming it’s a BM when it’s not that’s one thing……here comes the unpopular opinion. Do you think Benchmade is upset because their copyright was infringed? Or is it more likely they are pissed over it because these Chinese knock-off companies are exposing to everyone how inflated Benchmade’s prices are and how they don’t actually reflect anywhere near what it’s actually costs to produce these VERY basically shaped knives made from cheap blade steel (like Benchmade’s version) with cheap plastic sheathes? My money would be on the latter. In all practicality blade steel doesn’t matter with a knife like this with the intended purpose for it in mind. No one is gonna get stabbed or slashed with S30V and be in any WORSE trouble than if someone got slashed by the equivalent of sharpened cheap POT METAL let alone a low performing bladesteel like 440 (in whatever flavor you pick)
No one’s SKIN is a blade steel snob “oh that cheap Chinese shit? Nah you’re not cutting my arm with THAT!” *said as corotid is absolutely spurting bright red*
I’d say if a Chinese company can get away with producing a comparable knife like this at less than half the cost of Benchmade’s version…. That should be more of a clue to Benchmade that they a) need to be a not more innovative with there design(hard to do when all someone needs is a sharp pointy thing to make someone else bleed and a way to hold onto said sharp thing) OR b) bring their price more inline with competitors so they can try to compete effectively with them.
People get hung up on name brand knives. Even myself. I like nice blade steel as much as the next guy…. It it tends to not matter as much on this type of use… practically everything you’d be wanting to cut with this knife will not be an issue. With other knives edge retention is important but with a defensive knife it’s not. All you need in a defensive knife is the ability to get it sharp ONCE. You you are using your defensive knife enough to dull it there is a 99% chance you are doing something else wrong by getting into the situation where you need to draw a defensive blade because your adversary is THAT close to you OR you have lost the use of a firearm as your primary weapon system. If that is happening THAT often? You are messing other things up and need to re-evaluate your tactics and protocols.

you're exactly right. this is a 30 dollar knife with a 100 dollar decal on it. the knock offs are actually worth it.

Agree 100%. Although I don’t think Benchmade is worried much about loss of revenue, as a high percentage of these are purchased through government contract or LEO budgets, and Chinesium is not a competitor there. Nice to know your tax dollars are going to pay for a gazillion $120 dollar knives, most of which won’t ever be used …

The knock off has the clip the SOCP dagger used to come with, but the real old ones had a grippy material on the clip. The new clip is much better and got changed as people were pulling out the knife sheath and all from their web gear. Thanks for showing us.

for the fake, use light file or sandpaper on stick to take some material out until desired retention is achieved. that's what I did.

$117 for BM that’s not even sharp? Nope. Will get the China version in D2 for $16 from Ali Express. The whole purpose of this blade is to poke holes in things, you’ll never put enough force on it to break it.

Awesome video, thanks. But I have a question - what is special in the original one that Chinese cannot do? This knife meant for stabbing. Will chinese one not stab if you sharpen it? And the clip can be changed easily btw to any clip of your choice..

      @AlphaWolfKNW  Год назад +1

The Chinese replica will definitely do what the primary purpose of this dagger was, which was to stab. But if you plan on using it for anything else, the steel isn't as good and could be more susceptible to breaking, and just won't stay as sharp for long. But this knife isn't razor sharp anyway, so it is what it is I guess.

Everything checks out definitely have a real one :b

Good, I'm glad you didn't get ripped off. It gets tougher, and tougher to figure out if your buying online. From pictures some fakes look really good. And in person if you don't know what to look for sometimes it's still very hard to tell. I have put them both together, and had my friends look and tell me which one was real and they still had no idea.

I've got one that looks identical to the yours on the left (The real one) except mine has a goldish color logos. The sheath has Benchmade USA stamped in the clip with the benchmade logo down at the bottom. Is mine a knockoff version or did benchmade do gold logos for short time?
