It really is a shame not alot of bands use this song format anymore. I kind of like these type of songs honestly. It starts off slow, calm and soft. As the song progress it gets faster and heavier. One of the best songs ever made in heavy metal history. I love Anthrax and all of their music, but man..This song, every time I hear it, it takes me back to the crowded smaller auditoriums of the 1980's. I almost want to cry I love it so much..I was there man when this came out and I knew it was something never to be forgotten..
I think this song got overshadowed by Metallica's ''thrash metal ballads'' such as Fade To Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), One etc. You are right Bud...it was something never to be forgotten.
Same, actually! No shit! I was in middle school and saw guys wearing Anthrax shirts and Not Man and got curious so I asked a dude about them and he lent me this cassette. I was already into punk but "thrash metal" was foreign to me. I was HOOKED! Anthrax introduced me to metal and crossover shit like SOD, MOD, DRI, COC, Crumbsuckers, Dehumanizers etc! Love Anthrax!
It was kind of like their Fade To Black Moment but in much lesser time, starting off so soothing and sweet whilst maintaining a despondent and foreboding tension through it all before building more dramatically and culminating into a total facemelting thrashfest. Such a beautiful song of epic thrash metal.
One of my fav songs of theirs? I wish there was another version with a longer version of the acoustic intro. Other bands would have used that tune to make a bigger hit but not Anthrax. Always true to Metal \m/
