One of my favorite songs of all times. To me, the song is about the singer's sadness because the person she loves either can't or won't love her back. The music is perfect in conveying the sadness/melancholy/almost crying with the lyrics.
There are many songs that take me to my teens in the 90s , and this is one of those songs. I close my eyes and I'm back at space of time when I listen to this chill song.
I luv ya 4 playing this. My son Ian turned me on to this when he was 11 and I was 40, on a surgical deathbed. Now I am old and here suffering and sick for yrs. My Ian has bead dead for almost 11 yrs now from a seizure disorder. He's w/me all the time, so this is for him and me. Thx for giving me this during troubled times. It brings my baby back, and Jesus be w/u too
This song is amazing!!! Her vocals are stunning and so emotive. I didn't really see this as "despair," more like sadness, emptiness, and loneliness --- yet with a peace about it
Some people find Mazzy to be depressing and they definitely have a melancholy feel. They have a lot of good songs. Personalky, I find her voice and that guitar very soothing
This song makes me think of riding in a car on a summer night, on a long stretch of empty road. No one talking, just feeling the night air. I imagine sticking my hand out the window and riding the air with my hand. Looking up to see if there is a shooting star out there just for me. I did this...but it was in silence. This song fits that moment to a tee.
a great band. Listened to them for about 30 years. They probably have 10 classic tunes. Put on the head phones recline in your favourite chair turn the lights out close your eyes and you will get Mazzy Star. Hope Sandoval is very calming. Beautiful lady beautiful voice.
I call this genre "Heroin, it's not just for breakfast anymore" music. That's a complement of course. I love this sort of stuff. I love shoe-gazey stuff for the same reason. And Hope Sandovol... forgetaboutit. A mythical petite pixie goddess.
I remember listening to this song in college. It seemed to always be one of those songs that played just before the party broke up for the night. Very chill.
I had the amazing opportunity to see Mazzy Star live at the Vic Theater in Chicago a few years ago. I can tell you, this is exactly what Hope Sandoval sounds like live. No subterfuge going on with her voice, such a talented artist.
Playlist! I agree with Debi! This is a nighttime song. Beautiful! It's relaxing and I can think better at night. This is definitely a thinking song for me.
Mazzy Starr was known for their dark and blue light type of music. She was terrified to perform in front of audiences and mostly sang with very dimly lights when she did. Always reminds me of someone I loved long ago though.
Sitting with my friend and told him to pick a song. He didn’t know I’d play a reaction. But found you and thank you for not interrupting the video like every other channel.
This song is used at the perfect scene during "chasing mavericks" when Jay's talking about his dad that left when he was young and then goes night surfing with his childhood crush that ignores him in public
This is definitely one of those songs that you play when you want to just pull up to a cliff on highway 1 in California and just look at the beautiful ocean 🌊 reminiscing about that one love that could of been..man I miss the 90’s 2020 and up will never be anything close to what the 90 were.
okay before i watch this video i gotta say i cant wait to find the video of you in that short haired wig lol i bet its hilarious lol but maaaaan hope sandoval,, mazzy star,, i fukn love this song,, my top 3 EVER!!! i just seen abracadabra's reaction,, given that wig, i cant wait to see this reaction.. oh btw, ur intro looked very interesting, you seem to do alot of things.. Big Ups..
I absolutely love this song her voice is so dark & haunting brings back memories of when I was a teenager. To me the song is bout you loving someone but either they can't or won't love you back
This song is like sitting in front of a fireplace, wrapped in a warm blanket, on a cold night. It's funny how something melancholy like this can help when you are feeling down. Gives you a break and a chance to put your feet back on the ground when times are rough.
Please condemn me to the hole. I can't believe I missed this live preview. I absolutely adore this song. Yeah, im a metal gal, but I have a soft spot for songs like this. 🥰 Edit: pretty please react to the newer Nightwish single, Noise, as I would seriously like to see how you break that down... Or Delain: chemical Redemption. (My 4 year old is a HUGE fan of Delain and it's one of her favorite songs from the newest album of Delain.)
I feel like it’s definitely a loss and emptiness vibe, and how still this things are during a shift in emotional change. It reminds me of a feeling you get looking back on something you went through and realized how unhappy it ultimately had turned out. I love her voice it’s very chill.
Thanks for that prayer man.. but yes, its a deep sad song,, but i always found strength in times like that,, its a beautiful song; as the comments professed below, theres pain attached to songs like this, but pain can be a beautiful thing, at the very end of the day, it brings us spiritually closer because noone wants to see anyone in pain..
It makes me feel every emotion that exists in me. Nostalgia first, since I heard it waaay back in the days in high school, happy, sad, inadequate, alone, flying through sky around the world, peace, love, clarity, first crush, meditating, rejection, inspired, past, present and the future. The End.
Not all songs are upbeat. This song & band are not inviting. It doesn't follow any contemporary trends or stylistics. And yet in its own mysterious way it somehow taps into something universal like heartbreak. The vocals are definitely introverted and that's unusual. The lyrics have a haunted, alluring quality. The lilting melody has no identified time or place, therefore rewards repeated listening.. This is actually a quite great song thats really far out and a modern masterpiece of melancholy.
heard mazzy play it live years ago, its a smooth dream like track comfort, to smoke a end of a day spliff amazeing live as well,i think better live than recorded
You, and I said "despair " at the same time. I believe it has a beautiful vibe to it. You have to be in the right frame of mind for this. It's a beautiful song. I actually did buy this when it first came out. Another great reaction!🙏
Check out another song she guest sings in Paradise Circus (Guy Borato Mix) from Massive Attack. Also Hope Sandoval and the Warm Intentions. Her voice is just smooth as silk perfection.
I hear this every single night on my sleep playlist, I love it... very mellow & chill.. it was also featured in that terrible movie Madonna did, lol, Swept Away, which is where I heard it first..
Melancholy. Definitely melancholy. I'd really love to see you react to some Tracy Chapman "Baby Can I hold you" Give Me One Reason" and "Fast Car." I really think you would like her!!
You should also check out their song Five String Serande. She has such a unique voice I first heard this song from the movie Angus been hooked on them ever since.

Hope Sandoval. She has one of the most hauntingly beautiful voices.

Mazzy "oh you think you know what you like?"
Mazzy star proceeds to blow your mind.
Ohhhh the 90s. Man i miss it. I remember dressing the way shes dress in this video. 80s i loved. I was growing up but 90s was my era!!!
I'm 33 and say the standing by the road outfit.... "That's the most 90s outfit ever" ❤❤❤
This song combined with her beauty! Melody and all puts you in a trance!👌🥰👉♥️🌹👍
This song is amazing!!! Her vocals are stunning and so emotive. I didn't really see this as "despair," more like sadness, emptiness, and loneliness --- yet with a peace about it

I'm an unreconsttuted headbanger from way back, but I listen to Mazzy Star to chill...
One of my favorite songs - RIP David Roback - he died last week.
Hope's voice LITERALLY breaks me, man... in the kind of way that makes me keep coming back for more.
💔
One of my best friends favorite songs. Dont know how many times I sat w/ her thru breakups listening to this in high school. Oh, teen angst.. 😆
a great band. Listened to them for about 30 years. They probably have 10 classic tunes. Put on the head phones recline in your favourite chair turn the lights out close your eyes and you will get Mazzy Star. Hope Sandoval is very calming. Beautiful lady beautiful voice.
Hopes voice and the music is so haunting and eerie it gives you chills.
Classic...i miss the 90s
Hope is such a babe! Her voice gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
I call this genre "Heroin, it's not just for breakfast anymore" music. That's a complement of course. I love this sort of stuff. I love shoe-gazey stuff for the same reason. And Hope Sandovol... forgetaboutit. A mythical petite pixie goddess.
Shoe gaze is so underrated
I remember listening to this song in college. It seemed to always be one of those songs that played just before the party broke up for the night. Very chill.
Sultry, sexy, and haunting, IMO...
Thanx for using the official vid in your reaction!
I feel like I'm in high school again ❤

New Orleans, 1990.. High dollar one pocket, and lowlight heroin rock.. I fell madly in love with that girl..
Can't wait!! What a beautiful song. And she has soooo many more!

Hope's voice reaches into your soul....
Absolutely angelic...
Never get tired of hearing her voice...
Honestly Mazzy Star has one of the most beautiful voices I ever heard.
I remember when this came out, such a vibe
Love this song. Very moody, relaxing, and just a little sad. Sometimes need that sadness.
Very chill, I enjoyed it

This is the best comment of many I've seen the heart pain of life and relationships.

Love this song! I want to learn guitar just so I can play it.:)
Great song. Love the melancholy feel.
Hope S. singing this song brings tears to my eyes and im a grown ass man. Love her.
It makes me feel every emotion that exists in me.
Nostalgia first, since I heard it waaay back in the days in high school, happy, sad, inadequate, alone, flying through sky around the world, peace, love, clarity, first crush, meditating, rejection, inspired, past, present and the future. The End.
"Sorrow" I think is the word. Hope Sandoval has one of the most beautiful and haunting voices...
It is also a union within love ❤️❤️❤️❤️
To me your are the best youtube so glad i subscribe :)
Takes me back to a time in my life I would love to forget ever happened. If we only could truly predict the future. (Exhale in remorse)
I hear ya!
Love this song so much , I've been tattooed while mazy plays in the background 😍😍😍

I cannot state enough how much this song has affected the people that know it.
If you're lucky, you're one of those people.

This is what i imagine Heroin would sound like if it were a person...LOL
That would be Mazzy Star.
Check out another song she guest sings in Paradise Circus (Guy Borato Mix) from Massive Attack. Also Hope Sandoval and the Warm Intentions. Her voice is just smooth as silk perfection.
Angus!
Always loved this song!
One of my fave songs.
To me it reminds me of the memories I have with it slow dancing with my boyfriend singing in his ear. Truth.
You have to watch the live version. Enchanting
Starship Troopers. The scene where Denise Richards learns that Casper van Dien is listed as KIA.
Nostalgia, my favorite song went i was teen.
How do we love more and be real?
I always think of this song as haunting. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel one of those
Wow,.This was when the road was still in front of me, rather than in my rear view mirror.
♥️
You should also check out their song Five String Serande. She has such a unique voice I first heard this song from the movie Angus been hooked on them ever since.
A voice so good that the Chili Peppers wrote a song about how good it was... ("Aeroplane")
Meloncholy
Everyone thinks mazzy star is the chicks name when they first hear of them
I think I've heard this on Grey's Anatomy I watch all the shows you just mentioned that you said that your wife watches, I thought that was cool.
Forlorn for sure that definitely comes from the lost identity feelings of the 90's.
To actually be real with accepting all of veering in love
Try Hope Sandoval (that's her name) and the Warm Intentions. The Peasant.
I like this song. But I got a melancholy feel from it. I listen to it when I'm working something out. Have you heard It Feels So Good by Sonique?
Great band. Great vocalist. Far better songs than this BUT this is still a great song by them. Laid back sunny song.
This is the beginning of millennial nihilism.
Please react to queen, Love of my life. Keep up the good work. Watching in England 🏴. Stay safe everybody
Rich weed girl music
Some people say some of my music reminds them a little of Mazzy Star lol
About as melancholy as they come. But really great if you're in that mood. Few did it better. In line with The Cure or Cowboy Junkies.
Try into dust
You are a terriffic host.... Her message is about we cannot connect until ..... loss
