    Perfection. Tomaru Hanae's voice is basically the key to this song.

    I'm going to be honest, although I grew up with Wakana's 2008 version, this one really hit me right the first time I listened to it. Tomaru's smooth and powerful voice penetrated among other ones; it got a real push-up when Yuriko joined her and later on, Wakana. As other comments had said, this version is undoubtedly the best one, it's a mystery, haunted, and rich song in terms of all skills: vibrato, resonance, and breath-holding.

    Tomaru version clean and smooth (also long breathing) but rich in vibrato... she can sing solo in the first verse (with only Keiko harmony)... if u hear the chorus part she can 'penetrate' her voice among the others.
    Wakana version a bit 'harsh' and full of energy bcause she using the chest voice... at first verse her vocal mixed with Yuriko's and seem a bit faded at the chorus.
    Yuriko version (reprise studio) she doing good at the chanting part with nice vibrato but faded at first verse and chorus with Joelle.

      You're right ! I also think that this version is a bit more mysterious, different feeling than Wakana's version but I do love it

      I agree with your points. We noticed almost the same things! Vocally I prefer this Tomaru version the most, and next Yuriko's version (Reprise Studio), then Wakana's (mostly because of her breath issues, losing energy).
      At the chanting, Tomaru only stopped suddenly just as the instruments came in (she could have continued!).
      It's sad but Wakana would really have been well served with a developed head register and a strengthened mix for her belt. It would have saved her a lot of the long-term issues with singing so heavily.

    0:35 Hanae adds a little yodel for a slight ethnic effect. Cool!
    5:43 See the guitar player playfully react to Hanae's resonance lift and vocal climax.

      Come back again after that vol.17. I couldn't describe how much I adored this version compared to Vol 17. Tomaru surely shines the brightest light during this version, followed by Wakana with her aggressiveness, and Keiko & Kaori with their lower harmonies, too bad Yuriko wasn't giving any solo or a proper line except blending herself with Hanae in the chorus.

    Since Hanae was singing the lead that would have normally been Wakana's, I was unavoidably listening for the difference in technique (not necessarily tonal quality since that is unique to each individual). This isn't a bashing but a comparison and analysis.
    When Wakana joins in initially singing unison with Hanae, her much brighter pop tone contrasts stylistically with Hanae's covered classical tone in an interesting way, When Hanae and Yuriko combine for the high part of the chorus there's a real amplifying effect due to similar placement though Yuriko adds a bit more higher frequencies (brighter).
    At 1:44, Wakana breathes heavily by lifting and dropping her shoulders quite visibly. In my opinion, this breathing technique could be part of why she tended to run out of breath and also strain to hit higher notes (note that she almost always had veins popping in her neck). Wakana did use a lot of energy on stage which was exciting to watch but the vocal exertion has its negatives.
    Also at 1:47 as Wakana goes out of the camera frame to the left, watch her shoulders rise and compare with Hanae (who's in the centre of the frame) as they both take that necessary breath in the middle of the phrase. Hanae's shoulder movement is almost imperceptible.
    At 3:38 Wakana had to take a breath before completing the phrase making it "staccato" (broken up) instead of "legato" (continuous; she'd run out of air and since her breath wasn't silent so it became part of the performance).
    At 4:53 Wakana's voice went out (her brighter tone petered out before the end) while Hanae (and Yuriko's) carried on.
    5:09 Loved the vibrato placement from Hanae.
    And at 5:41 Hanae leaned into her classical power showing the resonance, vibrato and volume, literally drowning out Keiko and Kaori's low volume counterpoint (which never happened in other version)!
    Really enjoyed Keiko's stance as she was highlighting Hanae with her pose from 5:57 where she's pointing up and back towards Hanae's area like a honor guard. At 6:18 Keiko opened her eyes and showed pleasure with the experience. Good supporting / hype stance from Keiko!

      "When Hanae and Yuriko combine for the high part of the chorus there's a real amplifying effect due to similar placement though Yuriko adds a bit more higher frequencies (brighter). " This shows how much power does Yuriko possess. Her technique is no joke.

    • @TheSeeking2know
      @TheSeeking2know Год назад +1

      @@NguyenTrong1801 No joke at all! The two most powerful voices in terms of volume are Yuriko and Kaori (when she does her chesty belt)! Yuriko's cut (due to use of her mask) enables her to sing really softly and still create the sense of amplification to cut through the mix and be heard, while the others (more pop oriented) need to belt heavily or strain (almost sing-yell) to create the sense of volume.
      Yuriko will keep singing at this level into her late 40s and maybe beyond, because she has the technique. Her voice may just drop slightly lower due to age.

    • @NguyenTrong1801
      @NguyenTrong1801 Год назад

      @@TheSeeking2know so this is a review of their latest Mezame vol 17:”Hanae doesn't miss a note. Joelle goes a capella with the long notes before the violin solo. Like in only vol.#9 (5:43), Hanae delivers a final and heavenly note higher than in the original. In vol.#9 though, that note came from nowhere when it makes more sense now after one more intermediary note.
      Might be my favorite version when it comes to the vocals.”
      She will perform her heavenly note againnnnnn!!!!

      While I agree about the technical aspects of tomaru's singing (it was beautiful in her own way), it's not enough to stray me away from my personal preferences, in which, Wakana is still my favorite. Please know that I did not say one was better than the other, I just prefer Wakana :) Probably because it's her live version that I listened to first and got accustomed to, who knows.

      every singer have each and individual strong notes and unique.yuki kajiura does have a sensitive ear to differentiate the voice of the singer...if not why does she entrusted her song to that singer...she acted like a professional football/soccer manager...which have the a abilities to decided which player was the best in winning the tournament..

    • @yoruismyhubby
      @yoruismyhubby 7 лет назад +13

      I prefer Tomaru hitting those notes than Wakana though. Tomaru gave the 'ephemeral and heavenly sound' while Wakana's high notes sounds fitting for darker theme that needs high notes. You can say dark is Wakana and Tomaru for light (for high notes)
