    I'm going to be honest, although I grew up with Wakana's 2008 version, this one really hit me right the first time I listened to it. Tomaru's smooth and powerful voice penetrated among other ones; it got a real push-up when Yuriko joined her and later on, Wakana. As other comments had said, this version is undoubtedly the best one, it's a mystery, haunted, and rich song in terms of all skills: vibrato, resonance, and breath-holding.

    0:35 Hanae adds a little yodel for a slight ethnic effect. Cool! 5:43 See the guitar player playfully react to Hanae's resonance lift and vocal climax.

      Come back again after that vol.17. I couldn't describe how much I adored this version compared to Vol 17. Tomaru surely shines the brightest light during this version, followed by Wakana with her aggressiveness, and Keiko & Kaori with their lower harmonies, too bad Yuriko wasn't giving any solo or a proper line except blending herself with Hanae in the chorus.

    Since Hanae was singing the lead that would have normally been Wakana's, I was unavoidably listening for the difference in technique (not necessarily tonal quality since that is unique to each individual). This isn't a bashing but a comparison and analysis. When Wakana joins in initially singing unison with Hanae, her much brighter pop tone contrasts stylistically with Hanae's covered classical tone in an interesting way, When Hanae and Yuriko combine for the high part of the chorus there's a real amplifying effect due to similar placement though Yuriko adds a bit more higher frequencies (brighter). At 1:44, Wakana breathes heavily by lifting and dropping her shoulders quite visibly. In my opinion, this breathing technique could be part of why she tended to run out of breath and also strain to hit higher notes (note that she almost always had veins popping in her neck). Wakana did use a lot of energy on stage which was exciting to watch but the vocal exertion has its negatives. Also at 1:47 as Wakana goes out of the camera frame to the left, watch her shoulders rise and compare with Hanae (who's in the centre of the frame) as they both take that necessary breath in the middle of the phrase. Hanae's shoulder movement is almost imperceptible. At 3:38 Wakana had to take a breath before completing the phrase making it "staccato" (broken up) instead of "legato" (continuous; she'd run out of air and since her breath wasn't silent so it became part of the performance). At 4:53 Wakana's voice went out (her brighter tone petered out before the end) while Hanae (and Yuriko's) carried on. 5:09 Loved the vibrato placement from Hanae. And at 5:41 Hanae leaned into her classical power showing the resonance, vibrato and volume, literally drowning out Keiko and Kaori's low volume counterpoint (which never happened in other version)! Really enjoyed Keiko's stance as she was highlighting Hanae with her pose from 5:57 where she's pointing up and back towards Hanae's area like a honor guard. At 6:18 Keiko opened her eyes and showed pleasure with the experience. Good supporting / hype stance from Keiko!

      "When Hanae and Yuriko combine for the high part of the chorus there's a real amplifying effect due to similar placement though Yuriko adds a bit more higher frequencies (brighter). " This shows how much power does Yuriko possess. Her technique is no joke.

    • @TheSeeking2know
      @TheSeeking2know Год назад

      @@NguyenTrong1801 No joke at all! The two most powerful voices in terms of volume are Yuriko and Kaori (when she does her chesty belt)! Yuriko's cut (due to use of her mask) enables her to sing really softly and still create the sense of amplification to cut through the mix and be heard, while the others (more pop oriented) need to belt heavily or strain (almost sing-yell) to create the sense of volume. Yuriko will keep singing at this level into her late 40s and maybe beyond, because she has the technique. Her voice may just drop slightly lower due to age.

      @@TheSeeking2know so this is a review of their latest Mezame vol 17:”Hanae doesn't miss a note. Joelle goes a capella with the long notes before the violin solo. Like in only vol.#9 (5:43), Hanae delivers a final and heavenly note higher than in the original. In vol.#9 though, that note came from nowhere when it makes more sense now after one more intermediary note. Might be my favorite version when it comes to the vocals.” She will perform her heavenly note againnnnnn!!!!

    This is my prime Fiction Junction duo because of how their voices and approach blend so well when they sing together. Kaori really has both the softness to match Yuriko and the bright tone to still be very present without needing to push. She allows Yuriko to float and she has good low notes too. Keiko's voice would have been too heavy (or over-correct to be a bit too light/warm) in the context of replicating this feel. (Prime trio is Yuriko, Keiko, and Kaori).

    50:40 みちゆき (Michiyuki) Never heard this song by Kaori supported by Keiko. Nice. 1:12:52 It was unusual to hear only Keiko carry the low notes while YK, Wakana, Yuriko, and Kaori were belting the higher line. Keiko was almost drowned out since she was alone and jumping around so much so a little out of breath too. 😂 1:16:10. Prime 3-part harmony of Fiction Junction (I will say this anywhere): Yuriko, Keiko, Kaori. Their harmonies blend so well! 1:16:59. Yuriko and Kaori coming in with a beautiful duet harmony. I think they are my favourite to duet backing harmonies because they also blend well. 1:22:39 everlasting song Yuriko's voice always sounds beautiful in the intro. The melody just fits her voice type so well. 1:23:36 camera engagement! Then Kaori joined in and they blended so well as always. 1:25:38 Keiko's lighter joyful timbre was nice to listen to. 1:34:43 Very unusual to hear Yuriko and Keiko take low notes together down to G#3! 1:36:53 Keiko removing her voice really exposed Wakana's weak B3 note. A much more energetic and playful live than I've probably ever seen. They were just jumping all over the stage!

    • @NguyenTrong1801
      @NguyenTrong1801 Год назад

      Probably because both of them took classical training classes so Yuriko knows how to complement Tomaru’s voice and vice versa. Keiko shines her lines with a deep and lower voice, however, during the second verses with Yuriko and Tomaru, Keiko’s lower pitch draws a dark and faded away at the end; when Yuriko and Tomaru carries the “aaaaa” before the bass, Keiko’s voice is sound-alike their (Yuriko+Tomaru) reverb. After all, this song is a great collab and I adore all of them, but yes, I wish to hear more Yuriko ft Tomaru.

    • @TheSeeking2know
      @TheSeeking2know 3 месяца назад

      @@NguyenTrong1801 Great points! Yuriko and Hanae blend well also because Yuriko uses almost continuous vibrato while Hanae uses straight tone before going to vibrato at the end. They also maintain similar dynamics while Keiko often moves her dynamics around so the blend is not as strong.

    Wakana and Keiko version may be great but Hanae Tomaru and Keiko version is on an entirely different level for me.

    • @TheSeeking2know
      @TheSeeking2know 3 года назад

      Yes. I think this is the best version because Hanae's voice maintained that timbral consistency going up and went into vibrato more smoothly than Wakana's would. I feel like the difference in vocal style is what is causing the perception of disconnect during the volume swell at the beginning of the chorus - they are approaching it differently. Wakana and Keiko are both more pop-oriented and so they blend better vocally but Hanae'e technicality is showing in this song that requires controlled vocals.

    • @michaelkirby5850
      @michaelkirby5850 3 года назад

      @@TheSeeking2know all true, for me keiko and wakana are still my favorites when blending. they blend well together pop or chorus it's weird they have a different color of voice but when they sing together its so damn GOOD! growing up listening to them i always got my ears on keikos low harmony! keiko can really adjust depending who is she singing with.

    • @TheSeeking2know
      @TheSeeking2know 2 года назад

      @@michaelkirby5850 Yes Keiko does do that. I think it's part of what made her struggle a bit to define her own vocal identity as a solo singer, having always sung in the lower range (sometimes manipulated her larynx to go really low) and having to adapt to whoever she's harmonizing with.

    Tomaru version clean and smooth (also long breathing) but rich in vibrato... she can sing solo in the first verse (with only Keiko harmony)... if u hear the chorus part she can 'penetrate' her voice among the others. Wakana version a bit 'harsh' and full of energy bcause she using the chest voice... at first verse her vocal mixed with Yuriko's and seem a bit faded at the chorus. Yuriko version (reprise studio) she doing good at the chanting part with nice vibrato but faded at first verse and chorus with Joelle.

    • @Honeybrew94

    • @TheSeeking2know
      @TheSeeking2know 2 года назад

      I agree with your points. We noticed almost the same things! Vocally I prefer this Tomaru version the most, and next Yuriko's version (Reprise Studio), then Wakana's (mostly because of her breath issues, losing energy). At the chanting, Tomaru only stopped suddenly just as the instruments came in (she could have continued!). It's sad but Wakana would really have been well served with a developed head register and a strengthened mix for her belt. It would have saved her a lot of the long-term issues with singing so heavily.
