This camera has great value for its features. I have the same camera with the 4x zoom since I have homes closer. I've noticed if I enable smart tracking it will search for a while when the subject goes out of frame myself. To minimize that I disable smart tracking and instead set up intrusion and line crossings and trigger smart tracking. When I do this it minimizes the search time and will go back to the preset position faster. Give it a try!
For those considering Hikvision: I have the bullet, turret, dome and a smaller PTZ cameras and have had *zero* problems since I installed the cameras almost two years ago. They're all PoE and connect to the Hikvision NVR (non-grey market). My neighbor has a knock-off NVR system and has problems about twice a month. I've never regretted spending the extra money for the Hikvision system. Thanks @newfiebort for the great videos.
Well it looks like Christmas came early at the newfiebort house this year! Nice camera! $547.88 US with your link when I checked it, Great Review as always! Thanks for sharing!
In the video the camera is installed outdoor but under the roof, protected from sun and rain/snow. Using the wall mount, can I leave this camera directly exposed to the sun and rain without damaging it? Where I live, in summer the temperature can reach 40 degrees.
Snow will really screw up the tracking function, I put mine on a patrol when it snows outside which is 6 months out of the year. I've had the 30x zoom for 4 years absolutely NO problem but in Beijing they see me in my underwear. I paid 2 grand and not let down.
I have both 4mp DS-2DE4A425IW-DE & 2mp DS-2DE4A225IW-DE version of this camera paid £400 each they are brilliant already caught house burglaries and vandals.. smart tracking works almost perfect when set up using VCA, you forgot to set tracking time to something more reasonable like 60seconds default is set to 300 seconds hence the camera looking for the target for so long if you just click smart tracking the camera will track everything including animals..
What does the camera do when there are two or more cars in its view. Especially if they're going opposite directions? Does it lock on the first and ignore the second?
Thanks for the review. Has there been any firmware updates to iron out the tracking/focus issues you experienced? I know it's only been a couple of months.
Yes. Problem apparently still exists. If they didn't fix this issue yet, than this camera is pointless to own. My configuration says I have firmware version V5.6.14 build 191219. I am also unable to download a firmware update with it giving me an unable to download error? Keep in mind that I have a "similar" DT-4B425IW-EF camera (sold as a ds-2de4a425iw-de). Also I found this online (The latest firmware is v5.6.15 but as you will see from the portal page if you are on a firmware version older than v5.6.11 you will need to update to v5.6.11 before updating to the latest.) That doesn't work as well. What a headache. They should sell something that works. Hikvision and it's new owners are using us a guinea pigs. Not happy. Will be returning if I can't fix it.
10:30 5 minutes? That's unacceptable. Crazy things may be happening on the other side during that time. It must have a zoning capability like the motion detection feature has to exclude parts of the view from tracking
I have watched your video several times during the past couple of years and still enjoy it very much. I have 2 of these cameras and have come to the very same conclusions that you have. At this point the only other issue that I have beyond those that were stated is that there seems to be too much of a delay before the auto-tracking actually activates and starts its auto-zoom or other movements. 10 seconds before anything happens! I have pretty much zeroed out any settings that might appear to cause these delays but still no luck. Do you have any tips relating to this? Thanks again for this great video!
@@HomeTechDIY awesome. Few more questions if you don’t mind. Are you able to control it remotely from anywhere, or do you have to be in close proximity to the systems?
Hi, when you mounted this on the wall bracket did you have to orientate the wall mount base to point forward/front then screw in tight the lock screw on the bracket above? helping my boss at work install 1 but when the mount screws all the way into the arm front it at 3 oclock not 12 oclock :( seems the thread you have to unscrew it a bit to get it at 12 oclock but when you do the mount gets a little loose when you in order to have it point forward at 12 oclock (eg hikvision logo directly facing you when looking at head on)
Very nice video. Can this camera or its software accept external inputs to trigger motion tracking? Eg. can I have an external motion sensor that will trigger the camera to move to a location preset and run motion tracking.
Thank you! You answered the question at 6:45. IS STILL Hiksion cams using NPAPI? :D And you need webcomponents... That's why I sold my Hikvision 4 years ago. And still. Dahua at least using half modern webAPI-s and you can see in FireFox. I can't believe this.

For that money, one would expect an almost perfect review. I appreciate your honest review since I'm just starting to look into home security. Do you do a best of the year review? Blessings.
Agreed! My expectations were very high as well. I wish the night vision was a little better and the back and forth action caused by the tracking was annoying. Happy to hear you appreciate the honesty!
Hello, can you tell me how to activate the camera, to receive email alerts and at the same time activate auto tracking on my NVR.Thanks if you can help me
What’s the proper Height to mount that camera I live in a subdivision I want to be able to zoom down the street and not have the camera zoom to the ground when I’m zooming out ?
How... or Can you use this camera on your phone! I sdon't want a camera that I can only view when at home! I never managed to connect a Hikvision and send them all back
I plugged mine into the NVR and I could view well, but I’ve moved it to another location on the property without the NVR and just running remotely, but I need to factory reset the camera. Can anyone tell me where the reset button is? I’ve looked on the board, but can’t see it anywhere?
Hi, i have this camera too. I Hope you can help me with a special setting i can't find. I’m having a slight issue with auto tracking. When the camera detects an object (human/vehicle) it will auto track the object until it comes to a standstill and after about 5 seconds the camera will then revert back to the default/pre-set position. When a vehicle enters the road, it will track until the vehicle parks, the camera then reverts back to the pre-set position before the driver has exited the vehicle. I wanne change that 5 seconds into more....
It would be great if you could show how good at detecting movement inside a zone. I have a 4x zoom Reolink that I want to replace because I noticed it failed to detect dogs at the entrance of my driveway 150 feet away.
Did they ever release a updated firmware that takes care of the hunting for 5 minutes after losing track of an object. I have the same cam and I hate when it does that.
Thank you! I'm looking to add another hikivision PTZ 4mp 25x to my system that was professionally installed with a hikivision 2 terabyte 4 channel recorder. I have 3 cameras currently, 1 ptz, 1 fixed, 1 pt trucolor. Can I just run a LAN wire (with the wires in the same order on the connectors as the others) from the recorder to the camera? The only issue was that a POE had to be added to the PTZ 25x camera because it was very slow and the picture was long delayed. Would the camera need to be updated or will it automatically update? Thank you in advance
Some other companies has spatial awareness of where you move around and you can configure where it will autotrack and will not. I will be putting one or two ptz in my home but I work in the industry so I can more easily get ahold of them. For me it would be incredibly annoying to have it follow cars down the road like an untrained dog lol.
Super happy I found this review. I have been looking for a camera that can nab licence plates at night. There is a street light about 60 feet away from where the camera would be placed. Do you think it would be enough ambient light to use tracking and color in addition to regular house light all around? Or, do you know of anywhere I can find examples of it performing in ambient light? The ones that cost 5X this can but trying not to wreck my wallet on these.
I have a very similar environment as you as far as street lights, plus there's a stop sign so vehicles have to come to a complete stop. Capturing license plates using auto-tracking during the day is easy peasy for this camera, unfortunately, nighttime images are another story. A combination of license plate reflection and tail light glare tends to drown out detail making plates unreadable.
Hi, I've just bought the same camera as this and pretty impressed with it but really struggling with decent night time picture settings. Is there any chance you would share your camera picture and possibly your PTZ settings page? Maybe a screenshot of them would be ideal? Many thanks
I agree, I too had a high expectation of a prefect nighttime shot. The settings depend on what your shooting. If it's total darkness, you will need the slow shutter setting on, but any movement will show as a blur (as it did in this video). If you have surrounding streetlights, then you may not need such settings. At 8:48, you can see my nighttime settings. The Slow Shutter Level seems to be a level of seconds of shutter. Remember, the focus is terrible when using the slow shutter as well.
@@HomeTechDIY I have 2 of these cameras. On order to get very good night video of people and wildlife I bought a couple LED IR light emitter panels. These work amazingly well. I have some that have been operation for several years without a glitch. They cast an enormous amount of infrared light which is of course what these cameras need for night vision. I think I paid under $30 for each light on Ebay/Amazon and they are contained within an aluminum housing with a nice solid wall mount and several dozen IR LEDS. Give it a try!
Thanks for the great video! I just got mine, but when setting it up inside my office prior to installation, I noticed some random coil whine from time to time. Just moving the camera will usually make it disappear. Did you notice something similar?
Thanks! I haven't heard any whine or stress sounds but it does seem louder from time to time. In tracking mode outside normally I can't hear it but one evening when it was very quite, you could easier hear the motor as it followed me around.

Hi , I have a hikevison PTZ poe plus camera and two static cameras running of a hikevison poe switch as the power and data source... I have cat 6 cable installed and its good quality cable . The ptz is around 20 metres away , the static around 30 and the other also 30 Every couple of days the cameras go offline and reboot a few hours later??? Any ideas? Am I expecting too much from the 4 port swith that it actually knocks off all 3 cameras ?
That sounds odd unless your PoE switch is hitting a wattage cap. Is there a pattern to the time of day that the cameras restart? Like maybe a dusk when the IR lights turn on? Maybe just connect one camera for a few days and see if the issue continues. Also, are the cables exposed to the elements or do they move? Just thinking there could be a short or a loose connection causing the switch to reset power to the connected devices.
Good question. I have not tried this camera on a PoE 802.3af switch. I did however connect another 802.3at (PoE+) camera to an 802.3at switch and the camera powered on and the live view could stream but none of the PTZ functions worked.
I have not tested it personally but the NVR'd spec says it will work with PoE+ 802.3at - www.hikvision.com/uk/products/IP-Products/Network-Video-Recorders/Pro-Series/DS-7608NI-I2-8P/
Hi. Thank you for your detailed information. I have just bought one of these PTZ's and it is brilliant. Only problem is in my menu I do not have the PTZ sub menu between the image and event sub menu. I have a new 16 channel NVR 7616NI-I2 with firmware V4.1.64 190726 and am wondering if Hikvision have removed the PTZ option.I can do presets, patrols etc, but can't do smart tracking. No where in the menu can I find this. Thank you for your time.
@@HomeTechDIY Hi. Thank you for your time. Didn't think of looking at the camera interface, will do now though. I'm wondering if the smart tracking option has been removed from the latest nvr firmware.
Hi. You are correct. The PTZ is under the camera's configuration. I was looking for it under the NVR's configuration. All is good now. Thank you for your video's and reply.
hello, thank you for sharing this video. I have just installed hikvision speed dome ds-2ae4215ti-d 2 weeks ago, I have preset it to rotate continuously cos my customer wanted to. However after 3 or 4 days, it stopped and need to start the preset again. How you encounter the same problem?
I should be just a matter of connecting it to the PoE channel ports on the back of the NVR. I'm pretty sure your NVR supports IEEE 802.3 af/at and will have enough power for this camera.
@@HomeTechDIY can you install it to a wall without the bracket? The dome camera I have right now gives you the option to mount it to a ceiling or a wall. (I realize this is 2 years ago)
$800 plus camera? I'm going to buy one that has 30x optical zoom with 4x digital zoom. 5mp, auto tracking, color night viewing, zone detection activation, auto focus and more for $183. Has WiFi, remote viewing, multiple spot camera stop. Auto focus is fast and plays 5mp at 20fps, at 4mp it plays 25fps. Sony imx335 chip for color night viewing.
@@HomeTechDIY They sell them on AliExpress under different names. The optical zoom is more than likely 12x - you know how they like to exaggerate on the Chinese sites, you can't even be sure if the CMOS is a genuine Sony or a knock-off. I bought two different brand cameras that are similar to the one 3DFX mentioned last year without the Sony chip and they're not bad cameras for the money. I'm still contemplating getting the one in your video because I can't figure out how to get many of the features like push notifications to work on my Hikvision NVR while using the ONVIF protocol, only with the Hikvision protocol with Hikvision cameras.
How are you playing back the footage with Hikvision? Are you using BlueIris or their dedicated NVR? Any recommendations on a cheaper IP camera I can demo here on my channel? Thanks for the feedback!

Just thinking there could be a short or a loose connection causing the switch to reset power to the connected devices.
By 10:39 I had a definite NO lol
I have a question. Is it possible to operate the LAN cable without additional power?
Good question. I have not tried this camera on a PoE 802.3af switch. I did however connect another 802.3at (PoE+) camera to an 802.3at switch and the camera powered on and the live view could stream but none of the PTZ functions worked.
Hikvision DISC067055 speed dome security camera I have seen this on ebay is this a good model and is it a ptz.thanks
I cannot find any specifications of a Hikvision camera with that model number. Is that the Hikvision number or a grey market model number?
How well does this work with Hikvision DS--- 8ch PoE DS-7608NI-I2-8P
(IEEE 802.3 af/at) can i power the PTZ entirely off POE without power
injector?
Have you looked in the camera's web user interface for the setting? Just wondering if it's a camera firmware issue or the NVR.
Hi. No, I have not done continuous patrols for that long to encounter this issue.
How do I set it up that camera on my nvr DS-7732NI-14/16P
I should be just a matter of connecting it to the PoE channel ports on the back of the NVR. I'm pretty sure your NVR supports IEEE 802.3 af/at and will have enough power for this camera.
Do know of any NVR's that support 18w PoE+ built in that will power that camera.
I use this Hikvision 16 channel NVR: amzn.to/2OnbXQn
Are any of Hik's camera good for nightime viewing of a license plate of a vehicle moving away?
Not that I am aware of. If there is some ambient light, this camera may get a frame or 2 but motion at night is very challenging.
Great review as always!!
Can you install it upside down? Or you can only install on a ceiling or with the bracket?
I guess it can be installed any way you need it.
@@HomeTechDIY can you install it to a wall without the bracket? The dome camera I have right now gives you the option to mount it to a ceiling or a wall.
(I realize this is 2 years ago)
Hey did they ever fix the smart tracking with a firmware update?
Not that I heard of....you may what to try contacting Hikvision to double check.
Do you know if they did get an update for the tracking or will it happen soon?
Sorry, I haven't heard any update yet.
I got 2 of those and using same nvr - when connect this camera i can NOT see ptz > smart tracking if i manage from hik nvr
Log into the camera using SADP
try that 1080p 60fps?
what bracket for this camera? what part number?
Part: DS-1605ZJ Link: amzn.to/3iMChRi
You should test out one of those seon school bus dome cameras
I see on the video you have slightly different menu gui from same nvr what i have
Awesome review. Sadly, can't afford it :)
Great review...keep it up
That auto tracking is really cool.
Can you download the software, who has a CD drive these days?
What software are you looking for? It should be available on the Hikvision site.
What part number is that bracket
DS-1605ZJ
anyone know how loud the motor is when it's moving on these?
You can hear it hum from about 15 feet away on a very quiet night.
There's also a chime music sound on mine.
People will definently see this thing but even so some won't care I guess motion Sencer with alarm is fine .
Not play my laptop how can solve?
What software are you using and where in the process is it failing?
Verry nice présentation....
☺️
$800 plus camera? I'm going to buy one that has 30x optical zoom with 4x digital zoom. 5mp, auto tracking, color night viewing, zone detection activation, auto focus and more for $183. Has WiFi, remote viewing, multiple spot camera stop. Auto focus is fast and plays 5mp at 20fps, at 4mp it plays 25fps. Sony imx335 chip for color night viewing.
Awesome! Can you share the model number? I have been looking for a similar lower priced option to feature on my channel. Thanks!!
Wow... can you please provide a Model number... or a link to the site where the one you found is available?
its awesome
Agreed
Were you whipping donuts in your driveway prior to making this video ? Just curious lol
Absolutely!! I had a little fun after plowing out the driveway. LOL
what for 50 ft thats hothing and at night that basically useless. I thought that would actually be crystal clear but nope. i dont know if its worth it
Nice 👍
In my country
Hikvision DS-2DE4A425IW-DE - 475$
Hikvision DS-2DE4225IW-DE(E) - 322$
Je veux avoir le prix avec le boxe
The price is in the title and links are in the description. Is that what you are referring to?
Man I sure wish I could get you here to my house and help me with my system, lost my IP address on my ltz system, have lost my video
Its $547 on feb 21 2020.
That's like 3 or 4 months from this video. Sucks for him
Good to hear. I am looking to buy a few more. Care to share the link?
Unfortunately, hikvision is very bad for the playback. Cheaper ip camera does playback much better.
How are you playing back the footage with Hikvision? Are you using BlueIris or their dedicated NVR? Any recommendations on a cheaper IP camera I can demo here on my channel? Thanks for the feedback!
@@HomeTechDIY I am using hikconnect app (android) and hikvision IP camera with installed micro SD card. Kkmoon brand with camhi app does playback much better.
I wouldn’t pay more than $200 for it.
$868 for that, personally I think it's a piece of shit for that price
Now I know why trump wants to ban Hikvision, can't beat it......ban it! 😈
Are you not afraid to buy chinese cameras?
No, but I understand the risks: ruclips.net/video/oPl0OfOts-w/видео.html
