Several years ago I went to China for a whole month with just my carry on. At the conclusion of the trip I realized I had been perfectly happy with just 4 prs of pants and 7 tops. What did I miss? My books!

I love your message about health being number one. Since becoming disabled/chronically ill i have embraced extreme minimalism. Material possessions have lost a lot of their lustre because they require so much upkeep (purchasing, storing, repairing, dusting). Even if you dont have health it is much better to have little health and minimal possessions !

Loved this! So much goodness here. Mont St. Michele is so beautiful- I have fond memories, too. Love what you said about health. I'm living with 36 items of clothing for a year, so I related to what you said about getting sick of your clothes. Sometimes you just want a bit of variety! Thank you for sharing about your trip and your learnings.

I love variety in a few ways. My wardrobe, food & life. I always declutter but in small ways now. I’m focusing on rebuilding items in my wardrobe that need replacing and finding better quality but not outrageously expensive. Moderately priced items. Jackets…I cracked up when you said one is good. I have a few versions. Puff vests, a couple jackets and a long coat. 🤭 I live in the desert it rarely gets really cold…😂 that’s the area that could use a declutter LOL.

@ At least my spring/summer list is very short. It only has 5 items. I’m feeling super good about my spending right now. 3 T-shirts, 1-gauze cotton blouse, 1-neutral color linen pant, 1-pair of sunglasses and 1-straw hat. It feels like things are finally coming together. Your efforts are really inspiring and great reminders to keep going

I will walk the Camino the Santiago in April with my 11 year old son. It amazes me how little our backpacks for the trip are. For clothing I will only take 2 (zip off) throusers, 3 underpants, 1 sports bra, 3 pair of socks, 3 shirts, 1 pullover, 1 jacket, 1 beanie, 1 loop scarf and gloves.
I'm very excited for this experience and I think it's the best decision to walk with a very light backpack. But I can truly tell afterwards.

Thanks for sharing this message Becky, I found the last part difficult to listen to as my mum was a hoarder & her life & living situation was far from ideal towards the end of her life for many reasons but having so much clutter which she wouldn't let go of certainly didn't help. After she passed away nearly 5 years ago & my partner and I cleared her home, my whole attitude towards belongings changed. I saw little to no value in a lot of it as I no longer had my mum and none of it meant anything to me What you said is so true it is the people not the stuff we own & our health that are the most important & irreplaceable things that we have in our lives ♥️

as someone with chronic pain, I can really relate to this major takeaway from your trip!
and speaking of variety, I want that in my kitchen (love cooking basically everything from scratch) and with my books -- but this does not mean that I do not declutter and maintain these areas very regularly, not keeping what I rarely use or what does no "spark joy" (and joy only!)

I love when you do b-roll of being overwhelmed by your clutter. Because it's like no clutter and you clearly had to go find some in some other room to set it up. It just cracks me up and shows how far you have been able to take your minimalist journey

Good morning! I have four pair of every day shoes and three for Irish dance that I only wear during class or shows. I have every day sneakers, warm boots for rain or very cold days, and two pair of Chelsea boots for professional wear. It’s pretty cool!

Thank you for this lovely, insightful video. yup, yup and yup :) I used to travel for months at a time with only a large backpack and even today never really have more than carry on, no matter how long I go away and how many gifts I bring along and that's real easy for me. I also realized early on that while I love the simplicity of the unencumbered travel-life, when I have a home, I like it to have things. For my joy, my creature comforts AND those of my guests. I used to be an avid thrifter and although I found it fairly easy to let go of a lot every time I moved, I've stayed in homes longer than I used to over the last two decades and accumulated more. Have been letting go quite a bit recently, of past identities and their accoutrements as well as wishful thinking items, and that freed up a lot of space in my head and heart - and home. The next move is this year and I'll let go of several pieces of furniture again, too. So excited for that.
We all need to find what works for us at the time and realize that it's not a "one and done" kinda thing. There are seasons to our lives and they have different focuses (focus? foci? :)). As long as I know what I have at all times and let that work for instead of against me, I'm good. And yes, health - and time - are the only things that really, really matter in the end - making sure we're actually living life and not let it pass us by; whatever that means to us.
ps. my heart skipped at 9.12 - 9.16 :) Yay, lovely Zurich!! Headed there tonight :) Hope you enjoyed it.

I have close to nothing. I sold, gave away and threw out so much. Took that money and replaced clothes that had holes, stains and didn’t fit. The only thing I didn’t get rid of are my books and dvds/cds. If it didn’t serve a purpose for me I got rid of it.

In September of last year i found out about minimalism and tried it out to calm my stressful and anxious life. I am now an 18 year old extreme minimalist living with only 140 something items total including clothing. Ive truly never been happier and id recommend this lifestyle to anyone who needs it.

Becky I just turned 78. I have been decluttering for several years and felt that I was doing well. However I am now feeling overwhelmed by my possessions. What advice can you give me. Please help

    • @minimalease
      @minimalease  8 дней назад

I think that’s very normal as we minimize our things we see how much we have still that we don’t need. My grandma is 82 and has allowed me to help her slowly declutter. She recently got rid of her bed she’s had for all my life and got a shorter much simpler one so that it was easier for her to put the sheets on herself. Is there anyone who can help you get things out? If you feel overwhelmed listen to it. As women I know we have powerful intuition and when we don’t listen to how our bodies feel we don’t feel right. Where do you feel most overwhelmed? Can you take away three things from that area? 💕 I wish you the best of luck friend

Clothing, I need to eliminate duplicate sizes in the same exact item. Also, when I find something that I like, I buy multiples because I love it so much but I go overboard and then get stressed because they take up so much space.

No She is 7 and honestly loves traveling! She also isn’t into fashion so was very content with a very small wardrobe (she just wants soft fabrics) she was allowed to bring one small stuffed animal, a notebook, and a sticker book. I was really impressed with how well she did with so few items 🥰

In your title it's less 'than', not less 'then'. 'Then' is in reference to time. 'Than' is used for comparisons.
I don't understand why Americans have such a difficulty with then and than.
