Life is indeed very short. I’m a cancer survivor of 11 years. Cancer killed my father and my mother spent the last 3 years of her life in misery. That’s why I retired as soon as I could. You just never know what is ahead. Starship Troopers- they needed better weapons 😊

30 years old and a cancer survivor of 1 year now! It is definitely a scary, life altering event and he is correct. Do what you love with the people you love while you can. Not everyone gets so lucky and I am now working with my wife on our life’s dream. We finally got our first camp in since the diagnosis and it was surreal. Even the small moments in the woods have helped a lot.

Life turns on a dime. Because of an accident I'll never camp again - lucky to be alive, but never take for granted simple things like walking around! Get that air and sun whenever you can, you don't know when you may not get the chance again. Thanks to streamers like Luke, people like me get to live vicariously - it brings back great memories (camping was a family thing that i carried into adulthood) and sometimes i swear i can smell the pine!

Hey, I'm sure you've considered it already and stuff, but here in California the majority of state campgrounds have at least one or two wheelchair accessible sites, and Im sure that's the case elsewhere too. I'm not sure if this would even help whatever your particular situation is, or if you've already tried it and couldn't do that, but just thought I'd let you know to check out campgrounds for accessible sites!

That thunderstorm sounds awesome in the mountains 😍 we love sitting on the porch when it storms. I've taken the beef jerky and freeze dried bbq and put it in a cup of boiling water to simmer. Life is short, I e been given a second third and fourth chance. I now live every day as if it's my last. I've survived cancer, a brain tumor and two heart attacks, in 15 months.

Canadian rations. They are called IMPs not MREs. In fact, IMPs came first (circa 1980). With that in mind, perhaps MREs should be referred to as 'American IMPs'. 😁 The first bag you opened was the LMC which is not a meal. It is additional calories/snacks to augment the daily diet in more challenging circumstances such as the arctic or long-range patrolling. The little snack packets can be used in lieu of full rats for certain tactical situations.
As soon as the IMPs are issued they get stripped down to the basics and all the unnecessary crap removed. These usually get tossed back in the bag and put in the ruck. Saves weight and space.
It's not 'plain' hamburger. It's 'pain' - French for bread. All labels have to be bilingual.

I noticed this year bears in our area (Idaho mountains) acting "out of character". We had a non existent huckleberry season for some strange reason so their feeding habits were weird. Our camp lost a 50lb bag of elk meat hung really, really high up. The camp across from us lost half of their deer that was also hung really high! They had no fear also of us....

Really enjoy your content, and you can turn a bad weather day into something pretty special better than anyone. Your comments about health ring true. When we are fit and healthy we really take things for granted. When your health goes bad and you can't do the things you love (or even everyday tasks) it hits hard. Make the most of life whilst you can, great advice... Brilliant stuff mate, keep them coming!

My most heart felt sympathies to those that have moved on to the next great adventure. The last time I saw my Dr. (Last week) they have given me 2 months. I have kidney failure. Haven't done dialysis for a little over 2.5 years!!!!! To anyone that is having kidney problems, and you still have, some, functionality, get a near infrared belt and lay on it. It WILL help allot. Look for LEDs in the 660nm AND 880nm wave lengths. THOSE are the best frequencies. Lay on the belt for 3 hrs a day till you feel better. Pay attention to what your body is telling you. Luke as always, I love your storm videos!!! Like being right there next to you. I was in my tent this summer, in my backyard, and a HUGE storm rolled thru. I had 3" of water running everywhere. But my Snugpak Cave stayed bone dry. Love this tent. Till next video Luke!!!

Thanks Luke for another stormy video! I appreciate the sense of wonder and adventure and love for the outdoors! Keep it up!
With your training and experience, how concerned are you about lightning strikes? I know the basics like staying off peaks or ridgelines, and not making camp near or under the tallest tree...but some of those strikes were aweful close. Have you ever had to break camp and quickly relocate for lightning danger?

Luke, Ive heard those Canadian MREs are really good and more healthy than our US MREs, (meals refusing to exit.) But they don't last as long in real world conditions.
I had a friend in the oilpatch back in the late 70's who had a pet BEAR cub. The guy took him around on the job with him, but had to leave him in his welding truck. . . that bear cub ate the steering wheel and most of the seats one day😂😂🇺🇸

In more than one video, Luke, have I've seen you use/test what I've affectionatly called "Pocket Stoves," like they can FIT your POCKET, your pants or shirt. Some of them are smaller than the fuel canister that fuels them. I know you're into camp stoves--me too. The "Pocket Stoves" always grab my atttention. These little stoves--can cook an entire dinner. Whoever engineered or designed those things, props to ya.
Oh yea, did I mention??? It fits in your pocket!! lol...

I don’t have any bears near me and when I ask the local farm store , they told me that not mice or rats , but the cute little chipmunk and pine squirrel will do that because they smell the ethanol in the gas . It’s corn so I can see that if blends wasn’t done proper.

When I deploy a tarp, I use a ridge line with attached prusik knots… this provides needed support to prevent sagging while the prusik knots keep it taunt. With practice, a hanked ridgeline can be secured in mere minutes. I can fully deploy a tarp in 5 minutes, easy.
Hank your lines properly. Use lightweight stakes. And pitch lower… Don’t attach lines to the tarp, use loops with a toggle. That’s it, quick, simple, and easy.
As far as bears go… a gas tank is nothing. My buddy Danny was building a cabin up out of Chewelah Washingtion, bordering the National Forest. Earlier that week, he’d delivered three bundles of styrofoam insulation. Each bundle was 4’x8’x4’ , and was to be used to insulate the underside of the cabin. Each bundle of styrofoam contained 12 sheet… that’s a sheet 4” thick, for a total of 36 sheets.
Well along comes a bear… who apparently thought they needed a snack… the bear, or perhaps bear(s), ate one bundle, and destroyed another… leaving scattered styrofoam, all over, and strangest piles of undigested white scat, all over that mountain side. Piles… They must have thought, they’d stumbled across the worlds largest Rice Krispy Treat… who knows?
Thanks for the video Luke! Stay dry and safe. And beware of white bear scat!

Brilliant intro! I loved how the intro music's ending coincided with your dropping the ruck against a tree, haha! It seemed quite professional. Little things like that make it great. I always love these stormy, miitary gear reviews the best, anyways. That rigging of the gas tank was a pretty neat and expedient trick. One thing I was thinking about when you mentioned having to often re-tighten tarps and stuff after stretching a bit is a nifty little piece of kit called Cam-Jams. They work wonders for just such a thing and will keep you a lot more dry because depending on how you utilize them, you are either able to manipulate them from under cover or spend much less time out from unde cover adjusting... Thanks for another great vid!

Pertaining to your question about bears and your gas cap. Yes, I had a friend who was clearing trees and brush around his hunting blind. He went back to the house for lunch, and left his chainsaw and tools out at his blind. He came back to find his chainsaw missing and his metal gas can destroyed. It was smashed and had teeth marks in it. After walking around a little he found his chainsaw, the cap and handle chewed on and the blade licked (presumably) clean. After talking to a few people about it, we learned that bears love anything that gives off an odor, including petroleum products. Something to keep in mind when camping in bear country
